'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore' opened to a tepid $43 million at the domestic box office over Easter weekend after earning $20.1 million Friday, including $6 million in Thursday previews.

00:11The $200 million movie is landing behind the first two films in the Harry Potter spinoff franchise.

00:17The Secrets of Dumbledore opened at $43 million domestically after earning $20.1 million on Friday.

00:23This also includes $6 million in Thursday previews.

00:26Overseas, the movie did a little bit better, earning $71 million for a global total of $193 million.

00:33In 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them debuted at $74.4 million domestically after earning an A cinema score.

00:41The sequel, Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald, came in with $62.2 million and Dumbledore lands 30% behind that.

00:48The Fantastic Beasts series never caught on the way that Harry Potter did.

00:51COVID delays and behind-the-scenes cast drama also caused production complications.

00:56Ezra Miller, who plays Credence Barebone in the films, made headlines for appearing to choke a fan outside of a club,

01:02and they most recently allegedly harassed people at a bar in Hawaii and broke into a couple's hotel room.
