Pixar and Disney's critically acclaimed 'Toy Story 4' buzzed to the top of the North American box office chart over the weekend with $118 million, one of the biggest openings of all time for an animated movie despite coming in behind expectations.

00:15million, making this one of the biggest openings of all time for an animated movie.
00:19The fourth installment of the Disney film reached for the sky in numerous foreign
00:23markets for an international launch of $120 million and $238 million globally,
00:29making this a record for the genre. It's only the third release of 2019 to cross $100
00:34million so far in its start, which was much needed for the summer box office after a
00:38series of stumbles. Fellow Pixar titles Incredibles 2 and Finding Dory topped the list
00:43of biggest animated openings with $183 million and $135 million respectively,
00:50followed by DreamWorks Animation's Shrek the 3rd with $125 million.
00:54The thing with animated movies, though they aren't known for their mega openings, can still
00:58have longevity. Disney distribution chief Kathleen Taft says this movie has great
01:03word of mouth and will run long through the summer. I don't deny that tracking had us
01:07at high numbers, but this is a huge debut and shows how much people love these characters.

01:34A-Cinema score from audiences and features an A-list voice cast including the likes of Tom

01:45Tony Hale as the conflicted Forky, Christina Hendricks as the doll Gabby Gabby, Jordan Peele
01:50and Keegan-Michael Key as the comedic duo Bunny and Ducky, and Keanu Reeves as stunt
01:54motorbike rider Duke Caboom.
01:56Overseas, Toy Story 4 grossed a massive $23.4 million in Mexico, the third biggest start of all time.
02:03The pick also scored the biggest opening ever in Argentina with $6.9 million, while the film
02:09brought in $15 million in the UK, the best showing of all time for an animated movie.
