It looks like the 'Hunger Games' prequel may slither its way to a solid box office start. Lionsgate's 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes' earned $5.8 million Thursday previews at the domestic box office with tracking shows the film opening in the $50 million range.

00:20with tracking showing the film opening in the $50 million range.
00:24This would be viewed as a solid start,
00:26considering that it's been more than a decade since the first Hunger Games hit the big screen,
00:30and eight years after the fourth title in the core series wrapped.
00:34The four original Hunger Games films, based on Suzanne Collins' dystopian YA novels,
00:39raked in $2.9 billion at the global box office,
00:42and cemented Jennifer Lawrence's status as one of the world's biggest female stars.
00:47The prequel stars Rachel Zegler and Tom Blythe,
00:49and follows a young Coriolanus Snow before he's known as the antagonist President Snow,
00:54as he mentors a tribute from impoverished District 12 for the 10th Hunger Games.
00:59The film also stars Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.
