On Friday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her guests were asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, VA, and as the incident continued to make headlines on Monday, several late-night hosts took the time to discuss the matter.
Transcript
00:00Asking Sanders to leave was probably the nicest thing they could have done.
00:04The waiter was probably like, listen, if I'm being honest, all the chefs are jizzing in
00:08your food right now.
00:09On Friday, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her guests were asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant
00:13in Lexington, Virginia.
00:14The next day, the White House press secretary took to Twitter to claim that she was told
00:18to leave because she works for the Trump administration.
00:21As the incident continued to make headlines on Monday, a number of late night hosts took
00:24the time to discuss the matter.
00:25After providing a brief summary of the story, Colbert joked that Sanders' separation from
00:29her food was even more devastating than parents being separated from their children at the
00:33border due to the Trump administration's policy.
00:35The Late Show host then said that while the diners offered to pay for their appetizers,
00:48the restaurant owner said it was on the house.
00:51So, sweet new way for Trump officials to get a free meal, he joked.
00:54You know you're going to get kicked out eventually, so go hog wild on the app round.
00:57Hi, we'll have an order of jalapeno poppers, the hummus plate, the twice baked potato skins,
01:01and a filet mignon as a starter.
01:03Oh, you just recognized this?
01:05We'll take that to go.
01:06Colbert then read Sandra's suite about the night, which states that she always treats
01:09people, including those I disagree with, respectfully.
01:12What do you mean you treat everybody with respect?
01:15You work for Donald Trump.
01:17You don't even treat yourself with respect.
01:19On NBC, Jimmy Fallon also addressed the situation on The Tonight Show.
01:22Turns out her server asked her what she wanted as an appetizer, and out of habit she refused
01:26to answer.
01:28Fallon then shared Trump's tweet criticizing the restaurant, in which he said that the
01:30red hand was dirty, both on the inside and the outside.
01:33So if you ever read a Yelp review and thought, who's got the time to write this?
01:36The answer is the president of the United States.
01:39Over on Comedy Central, Trevor Noah began The Daily Show by explaining that he disagrees
01:43with the restaurant owner's actions.
01:45I think what the restaurant should have done is treated her the same way she treats the
01:49press, he said.
01:50They should have just brought her an empty plate, and then when she goes, where's my food?
01:53You go, oh, it's right there, it's right there.
01:56Noah then criticized Sanders' tweet in which she claims that she treats everyone with respect.
01:59We've seen how you treat journalists on TV.
02:02Come on, you can't lie about your job when your job is on camera, he said.
02:05Just ask the police.
02:06It comes back to you every time.
02:08The host added that Sanders didn't have to pay for her cheese-bought appetizer.
02:11Honestly, if I was Sarah Huckabee Sanders, instead of complaining about this, I would
02:15use it to my advantage, he said.
02:16I'd just go to different restaurants in a disguise, I'd order all my cheese, and then
02:21once I got it, I'd reveal myself like, aha, it is I!
02:25Also on Comedy Central, the opposition's Jordan Klepper worked up his best mock indignation.
02:29Hey, Red Hen, you might not like kids getting separated from their parents, but that does
02:33not give you the right to separate a woman from her cheese plate.
02:36Klepper then addressed Sanders, stating that she is always welcome to have a meal at his
02:40house.
02:41Full disclosure, it'll probably be hot cereal since no one in town will deliver to
02:46me ever since I tried to get that little Caesar guy deported back to Italy.
02:49Back on NBC, Seth Meyers also shared his reactions to the story on Late Night.
02:53This weekend, Sarah Huckabee Sanders got to do what conservative white women love most,
02:58speak with a manager.
03:00Joking about the revolving door of staff members the White House has seen since Trump's
03:03inauguration, Meyers noted that it was weird that she was asked to leave the restaurant.
03:07Because usually people who work for the Trump administration are asked to leave the Trump
03:12administration.
