"Television is such an unbelievable platform for change," Levy told THR on his new deal with ABC Studios.
Transcript
00:00Dan Levy, my God, how does it feel to be here at TV's biggest party?
00:05It's absolutely surreal, and if I look like a deer caught in the headlights,
00:09it's because I am.
00:11It's extraordinary, it really is.
00:13I'm very, very proud of our team and so much of our cast is here tonight,
00:17and I've sort of been like proud parenting them all,
00:20watching them all sort of walk the carpet, and it's amazing.
00:25There's a lot of famous fans that have come out of the woodwork to say,
00:28to praise their love for the show, or to confess their love for the show.
00:33Has there been one person that's been the most surprising to you?
00:36Oh my goodness.
00:37Meaningful?
00:39I met Katherine Hahn last night at a pre-party,
00:43and I sort of gushed at her and I wouldn't accept any of what she was saying.
00:48I think ultimately to meet people who you admire and respect and have long admired
00:54and have them like what you're doing, it's incredible.
00:59And to be here in TV, I mean, I've always wanted to make TV and to finally be here,
01:05you know, and this is it.
01:07This is it.
01:08It can't get any bigger than this.
01:09Well, it can because you signed a deal with ABC.
01:12So one of, you know, one of the great things I feel is that your show,
01:17in addition to being hysterically funny and heartwarming and amazing,
01:19is it has, you know, pushed the envelope a little bit in terms of what gay relationships can look like.
01:24Are you going to do more of that with your ABC deal?
01:26What kinds of content do you want to produce?
01:28I mean, I think, you know, I always set out to tell a gay, queer love story that meant something and that I related to.
01:35And the fact that we've heard such a strong response from people about how watching the relationship has changed conversations in their homes,
01:43changed relationships with their parents.
01:45You realize that television is such an unbelievable platform for change and to have an opportunity that I now have with ABC Studios.
01:54I feel like I can't not continue to make television that means something and that, you know, advocates for justice and equality and acceptance.
02:04A lot of people wanted to meet you tonight.
02:06I just did.
02:07So I'm happy about that.
02:08Who do you want to meet?
02:09I was standing beside Phoebe Waller-Bridge for about three minutes.
02:13And if I don't meet her, that's the best I'm going to get.
02:16And that's fine for me.
02:18But I think what she did with Fleabag is absolutely extraordinary.
02:22And it's one of the greatest seasons of television I have ever seen.
02:25So for us to be included in a category with Fleabag, with Veep, who, when we started our show,
02:32I said to our team, I want our show to be put on a shelf with Veep.
02:35That's all I want.
02:36So for us to now be in that category with them in their last season, it's wild.
