00:00What happens when you pair two comedy legends and give them a straight-to-series
00:03order on NBC? Well, you'll have to keep watching to find out.
00:08Ted Danson and Tina Fey are joining forces for a new sitcom which has been given a
00:12straight-to-series order at the network which launched Fey's career via SNL
00:15and currently airs existential comedy The Good Place in which Danson stars.
00:19What else you got?
00:21Um, I'll tell you what else I got. I got this.
00:30The series will focus on the story of a wealthy businessman who is unexpectedly
00:34elected mayor of Los Angeles. That sounds kind of vaguely familiar but on a far
00:39smaller and less terrifying scale.
00:45Fey and her longtime producing partner Robert Carlock are writing and executive
00:49producing the show, with a single-camera effort hailing from Fey's universal
00:53television-based Little Stranger banner. According to sources, the series has been in
00:57the works for more than a year, with Fey and Carlock considering reteaming with their
01:01former 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin for a different project, which ultimately did not happen.
01:05This series, however, was written specifically for Danson.
01:09A formal episode count has not yet been determined and it remains to be seen if the new
01:13surefire comedic hit will air during the 2019-20 broadcast season, as Danson is currently
01:18in production on the final season of The Good Place. And by the way, the news that
01:22The Good Place is ending in the fall takes me to a very bad place. A very bad place indeed.
01:28No, no, look, look, you guys, this is not over. We have to stay together.
01:32Look, we'll figure something out. Like, just one idea I had, I could kill all of you.
01:37On Tuesday, Danson earned his 13th career Emmy nomination for his work on The Good Place
01:41and also won two Lead Actor Emmys during his 11-season run on Cheers.
01:45Fey and Carlock won three Best Comedy Series Emmys for 30 Rock during its 2006-13 run,
01:51and the duo also executive produced Universal TV's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for Netflix,
01:56which recently wrapped production on its interactive series finale.
01:59Fey has also won six Emmys for writing and acting on 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live.
02:04Said Fey and Carlock,
02:05We are thrilled to be back home at NBC and writing for one of the network's greatest
02:09stars of all time, Mary Steenburgen's husband, Ted.
