00:00Let's get started here. For those of you joining us here on the show and getting ready for the
00:04holidays, this is not a story to get you in the holiday spirit. Nonetheless, a sports betting
00:08story that kind of went sideways a couple of weeks ago. Chauncey Billups, you may be familiar with
00:13him, pled not guilty to the charges of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy for his
00:21alleged involvement in those rigged poker games that apparently existed that the FBI has indicted
00:27him for. If convicted, the charges carry a maximum of 20 years in prison. Billups was released on $5
00:34million bond and also put up his home in Colorado as collateral, no longer involved in coaching,
00:39at least for the time being, until this gets resolved in the NBA. Meanwhile, Calci's latest
00:44move in California, they're filing a motion for an injunction for a stay and pending appeal in the
00:49Nevada federal case by 5 p.m. Eastern out of concern that Nevada may seek to commence civil or criminal
00:54enforcement proceedings against Calci. Once the court dissolves its preliminary injunction,
00:59a couple of weeks ago, a federal judge granted Calci a win, rejecting the idea that the tribes in
01:05California said that they were a sports betting operation, so they at least get to operate in
01:09California for the time being and expect a lot of other states to follow suit here. They're going
01:13to be in for a battle this year and next year as well. All right, not much of a battle on Monday
01:17Night Football last night. Let's just call it what it was. The San Francisco 49ers gave the Carolina
01:21Panthers a lot of opportunities. Brock Purdy threw three interceptions in this game, but
01:25Carolina's offense just couldn't get going. Very inconsistent all season long.
01:29Christian McCaffrey facing his former team. That was the story in the 20-9 win. 89 rushing yards,
01:3353 receiving yards at a touchdown. Purdy, as I mentioned, threw a touchdown to Jawan Jennings.
01:38Other than that, not very good. Three interceptions, and naturally, Carolina has just been so up and
01:43down on offense all season. It's kind of hard to figure out who exactly they are. McCaffrey after the
01:47game, big win for him, and obviously reminisced on his time with the Panthers.
01:52Yeah, I mean, when it comes to playing in the league, you know, you have to approach each week
01:58as similar as possible. Stay in your routine. You can't get too far outside of what's normal for you,
02:04and so I tried to do that, and obviously, when you see familiar faces, it's always good to see
02:08them before the game and after the game, but, you know, that's a completely new team than when I was
02:13there, so it's really just business once the ball snapped. Just a game of missed opportunities.
02:18Our defense was, you know, putting us in some great situations, you know, with the interceptions
02:23and not coming away with points. Having an interception on one of those things really hurt
02:26us. Some basic things, you know, a couple of penalties put us in long drives. A drop on third
02:32down really just comes down to fundamental execution and things that, you know, I felt like we're moving
02:37in the right direction, but we didn't take that step today that I was looking for, you know,
02:42collectively as a group, and the defense battled, and they, you know, kept us in it, gave us some
02:47opportunities there, and then we turned it over again at the end with an opportunity to make the
02:52game close there at the end. Not a bad year for the Panthers, but that may have sealed their fate
02:57as far as the playoffs are concerned. Also, Christian McCaffrey, by the way, leads the NFL in receptions
03:01this season that I was not aware of. I probably should have. He's on one of my fantasy teams.
03:05Okay, this weekend, Tampa Bay Buccaneers got to be holding their breath a little bit to see if
03:10Baker Mayfield can play. His MRI showed no additional damage to that left shoulder that he
03:15hurt against the Rams, but still TBD for the weekend. No longer TBD as Joe Burrow. He's going
03:21to play on Thanksgiving Day for the Cincinnati Bengals. It's a Thursday night game. Zach Taylor
03:27said, well, you know, we'll see just to be sure, but it looks like all systems go. I anticipate him
03:32playing, but we'll continue to work through the week. I'm not going to declare that definitively.
03:35Work through the week, coming off an injury, he's done everything he could. He put himself in
03:38position to do his best to play yesterday, and we'll continue with that mindset, but he looks
03:45like he's in good shape right now. He'd be ready to go. I mean, really, last week he just fell
03:49because it was easier for us to handle because Joe Flacco has been limited in practice, and so his
03:55schedule had been conducive to Burrow coming in there and taking all the snaps, so it didn't throw
04:00anything off kilter because that had been our routine previously. He just took a bunch of reps that
04:04Jake Browning had been taking when Flacco was out, so from that perspective, it worked out well.
04:10We were able to balance that without disrupting anything, and now you'll go into this walk-through
04:14reps, which is really what we're doing the next two days, so it's nothing physical. Walk through
04:18mental reps and getting everybody ready to go play. The Browns have rewarded Shador Sanders with
04:24another start coming up for the Browns this Sunday. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings may have to turn to
04:30their third-string quarterback Max Brosber coming up on Sunday as J.J. McCarthy reported issues
04:35on the flight back from Minnesota. He's in concussion protocol. Here's the latest from head coach Kevin
04:41O'Connell. Yeah, you know, we, you know, obviously with the independent, you know, a couple independents
04:47and the medical staff and everything, there was not one particular, you know, we're, you know, looking
04:53looking into it as, as I know we all will. It had to be late, you know, based upon kind of how the game
05:00went. But, but no, there wasn't one where I think even J.J. can, can pinpoint as of right now.
05:07Kevin, I know you'll have to go through the week, kind of figuring out how things go for J.J.,
05:11but do you go in assuming Max Brosber gets ready to start? Yeah, I don't think it's, I think it's
05:16probably too early to tell that, Ben, you know, as far as, you know, with the quarterbacks not really
05:21taking contact in practice in the different phases of the, the protocol. I think we got to
05:27just take it a day at a time. One of the big stories of the week, of course, we'll see who
05:31starts there. All right, let's get to college basketball. A tough start of the season for
05:35St. John's. They lose to Iowa State last night, 83 to 82. Iowa State two and a half point favorites.
05:43Joshua Jefferson had 17 points and eight assists. It was St. John's having the ball late, not being able
05:49to come through on the final shot. So Rick Pitino, naturally not happy with the outcome.
05:54Well, it was another tough game for us. You play this type of schedule, you're going to be in tough
06:00games. The effort was great. The play was terrific. We just, with the game on the line, we just didn't
06:09come up with the rebounds necessary to put the other team away. And, but that's a credit to,
06:14to their incredible crashing of the offensive glass. So we take the loss because we couldn't
06:20come up with the rebounds. Unfortunate that we lost another good game.
06:26Gonzaga takes care of business against Alabama, 95 to 85. And Seton Hall had the upset of the night.
06:33They beat number 23, NC State, 85 to 74 in the Maui Invitational. Don't look now,
06:40but the hottest team in the NBA remains the Detroit Pistons. How about this? 13 straight
06:45wins as they beat the Indiana Pacers by a final of 122 to 117. That's a franchise record for Detroit
06:54with all of those championships and winning. How about that? Cade Cunningham, 24 points,
06:5711 rebounds, six assists. And J.B. Bickerstaff seemingly not satisfied enough with 13 wins in a
07:03row. Yeah. I mean, again, I would like for us to be greedier. You know, I felt like in that fourth
07:11quarter and even in the third quarter, we let our guard down defensively. You know, we allowed them
07:16to make a run. And, you know, again, I keep saying it, like our defense is our identity. That's when
07:22we're at our best. And that second half, you know, we weren't great defensively. And that's what the
07:27mindset we have to have. Like the mindset has to be, you know, we can't ever feel full or satisfied
07:32because, you know, every team you play, you know, they've got talent, they've got guys,
07:37you know, they've got champions over there. So we got to do a better job, you know, just sticking
07:42with it and being who we are, being greedy for 48 minutes. I guess you got another triple
07:48double in the NBA. I'll give you a hint. You're looking at him right there. And it's not me.
07:52Nikola Jokic had 17 points, 16 assists, 10 rebounds, does this every night already.
07:58125 to 115. Nuggets beat the Grizzlies. The Knicks beat the Nets 113.
08:0212 to 100. Carl Anthony Towns had 37 points. And the Nets are chasing down the number one
08:08overall lottery pick probably. And by the way, the Heat has won five games in a row. They beat
08:12the Dallas Mavericks 106 to 102. Tyler Hero had 24 points in his season debut. Also a trade
08:18in Major League Baseball, Sonny Gray of the St. Louis Cardinals has been traded to the Boston
08:22Red Sox for Richard Fitz and another prospect as well. Big story from this. Cardinals are going
08:27to send 20 million dollars as part of the deal.
