00:00We are having a fall gathering with friends and family.
00:02Go!
00:04It is nice having everybody together
00:06to catch up, eat food, and just hang out.
00:09Do you know if Ana's showing up?
00:11I still haven't heard from her.
00:12Ana has not wanted to do anything with the family.
00:15I haven't heard nothing from her.
00:17So.
00:20Tonight, I am having dinner with Alex and Emma.
00:23What's the deal?
00:24Why haven't you been around us and the family?
00:26Y'all have a phone.
00:27Y'all can text me.
00:28Y'all can talk to me.
00:29We're mad at you for the things you haven't been doing.
00:32To end this conversation, I'll come around.
00:35I'm trying to end the conversation,
00:36because when we're going in circles as a family,
00:38it doesn't end good.
00:39Why is, like, the problem between you, mom, and dad,
00:40affecting all of us?
00:45Today, we are going to show Elizabeth and Bryce
00:47the plot of land that we purchased in our neighborhood.
00:50You and Bryce can build on and be close
00:54to both sets of grandparents.
00:56The biggest advantage of taking the land
00:58is the fact that we would be saving money.
01:00Our cons are pretty much we're simply staying in the same neighborhood as our parents.
01:05Is this lot something that you guys would want to build on and live for the next 15, 20 years?
01:12If y'all want to be in the same neighborhood with your mom and dad, Bryce, and Amber and I,
01:30it would be convenient for you guys and for Layton.
01:33My parents surprised us with purchasing a lot of land in the same neighborhood as both of our parents for the possibility of Bryce and I to build our home on it.
01:44Even though Bryce and I are desperate to be in our own home, we don't necessarily imagine it being in the same neighborhood as both of our parents.
01:53Or if you guys don't want to do that, then it's something that dad and I can hold on to for a couple of years and turn around and sell.
02:00Bryce and Elizabeth contemplating the decision on accepting the gift is understandable.
02:08My biggest thing is I wanted to stay here for schools.
02:10That's why we moved here for y'all's schools.
02:13Even though I am grateful for this piece of property that they wanted to gift us, I'm also a little bit on the downside to being the same neighborhood.
02:22It's literally, we can walk to their house from here.
02:26It's got everything I want for Layton. School, family, safety.
02:30So this is ultimately where we have to simply just think about Layton when it comes to a decision like this.
02:35You know, my goal is to have her in a home by her second birthday.
02:39We know that this neighborhood is safe and it would be a great place for Layton to be raised.
02:43I mean, I have everything off the list.
02:45So it's a done deal.
02:46I'm going ahead and saying yeah.
02:55It was a tough decision, but ultimately, I think we made the right one.
03:00I appreciate it.
03:03I get the hug out or the backslash.
03:06Now that we have accepted this piece of land, now it's pretty much meeting with the builder, figuring out what kind of house plan we want,
03:13getting a good idea of how much that plan would cost and making sure that we're financially ready for this
03:18and ultimately just being happy with all of our decisions.
03:22Well, at least we got a short drive home.
03:24Hey, Em.
03:33Yes?
03:34Can you come here?
03:36I'm just packing up some last minute things for Ohio.
03:41Yeah?
03:42You excited?
03:43Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
03:44I always have a fun time up there.
03:46So right now I'm packing up for a trip to Ohio and I'm super excited to see Allie.
03:51Allie's parents are always surprised that I could pack this much stuff just to carry on.
03:56Is this all?
03:57How many days are you staying?
03:58Four.
03:59Oh, okay.
04:00Just a t-shirt for each day.
04:01I'm there.
04:02Two pairs of pants.
04:03Deodorant, underwear.
04:04I'm good.
04:05For a four-day trip, I packed four pairs of underwear just to be safe.
04:08I mean, I feel like that's what most people do though, four pairs or am I just an overpacker?
04:14If I was going on a trip for four days, underwear amount would have to be probably five or six.
04:23Four to five pairs of underwear.
04:25Underwear has two sides.
04:27You only need two.
04:28I would pack probably four or five pairs of underwear.
04:32What if you fart and you accidentally , that's one underwear now.
04:35It soaks through your pants.
04:37I haven't grabbed my pants in ages.
04:40My dad did it like three weeks ago.
04:42Allie excited?
04:46Yeah, she's excited to have me up there for a few days.
04:48I think we're going to go on a hayride, go out to lunch, and of course, didn't make the
04:53many reasons why I'm going to help out their dad with harvesting crops this year.
04:56Oh.
04:57So I've been to Allie's farmer a few times, but this will be my first time helping out
05:00with the harvest.
05:01I've been interested in farming ever since I was a little kid.
05:04I just have a lot of respect for farmers because they put food on our tables.
05:08So I think it's cool that I'll have a girlfriend who's also into farming.
05:11Are you going to drive one of their, do they have tractors?
05:14I'm probably just going to ride with Allie.
05:16No, I don't trust myself on the big tractor right now, so I'm going to let them teach me.
05:19Maybe next year I'll drive.
05:20Oh my gosh.
05:22Alex, I mean, the kid has always, always loved tractors and farming, and it's really
05:29very fitting that this is how this has all worked out for Alex.
05:33I'll be helping him for a few days with harvesting.
05:36That's going to be fun.
05:37Yeah.
05:38It's kind of a long process, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in person for the first
05:42time.
05:43Yeah.
05:44Would you possibly, like, one day move up there with Allie?
05:47We've had this talk a few times, and she seems pretty set in stone on staying up there.
05:51You'll leave all of us?
05:53I'll still come and visit, obviously, but her parents' rule is that we have to be married
05:56before we can move in together, so that's quite a long ways out.
06:01Out of Alex and Allie, Liz and Bryce, and Jonah and Ashley, the couple that will be engaged
06:07first will be Liz and Bryce.
06:10They got a jump start.
06:11Yeah.
06:12That's true.
06:13Yeah, but if Alex goes before me there, it's going to be a severe problem, and Ashley's
06:17going to be really pissed.
06:18I mean, I don't disagree with that.
06:20I agree.
06:21I at least want to get through college work though, college before I consider moving up
06:26there.
06:27We'll see.
06:28I can't believe it.
06:32Good Lord.
06:33It's always busy for us, and it's almost Halloween, and Alex is going to be heading
06:50up to Ohio.
06:51But before that, the family is going to be coming together to celebrate Poppy's heavenly
06:56birthday.
06:58Poppy is my father, and he passed away eight months ago.
07:01We have decided to do something special to celebrate his first heavenly birthday.
07:05Yeah.
07:06Don't say stop.
07:07Don't say stop.
07:08After Poppy passed away, we all decided that it would be a great way to remember Poppy
07:12by planting a tree in the backyard.
07:14Come on.
07:15Come on.
07:16There you go.
07:17A little bit more.
07:18Please, Lord.
07:19Come on, Poppy.
07:20Unfortunately, that is pretty much the last time we have all seen Anna.
07:24She has not been over to the house since that day.
07:26That looks pretty cool.
07:28Yeah.
07:29Yeah.
07:30We have picked out a rock, and we decided to etch out Poppy's name on this rock to kind
07:35of place at the tree as a marker.
07:39Are we ready to start taking the thing over?
07:42It's little, but it's heavy.
07:44Yeah.
07:45Yeah.
07:46It's very dwarf.
07:47It weighs 150 pounds.
07:48It's not, like, super heavy, but it's like picking us up.
07:51Everybody thinks we weigh 60, 70 pounds.
07:53No, I'm 140 pounds, 145 right now.
07:55God.
07:56We're very small, compact, very dense, so we feel like we weigh 200.
08:01Liz, I would move out of the way.
08:03I'm here to guide Dad.
08:05Well, the worst they could do is land in the pool and be in the bottom of the pool forever.
08:08Oh, .
08:09Because nobody's getting this off the bottom of the pool.
08:11Why don't you go the other way?
08:12Yeah.
08:13What about if we get on the end and push?
08:17Because you're, I don't want you to break the steps.
08:19I don't want to break the toe.
08:20Those steps aren't going to break.
08:22Yeah, that's just the fun part.
08:24Oh, God.
08:30Should that hand truck handle would have flown up and hit me in the chair.
08:33Poppy would have heard some language today that he would not have approved of.
08:40He did it.
08:42All right, Emma, you take it down the hill.
08:44Oh, my gosh.
08:45I let her go that way where it's not so steep.
08:48I was going out there and I'm like, I'm not doing all this work.
08:51So I told Emma, hey, come over here and take the rock down the hill.
08:53I would try to go slow.
08:56So who thought of this idea?
09:01Why are we, like, crab walking?
09:02Squat legs!
09:04I told you, you don't have to push it.
09:06I'm not pushing it.
09:08I think the trolley was actually pulling Emma.
09:10Yeah.
09:10It was pulling me.
09:12It's not a chalk.
09:13It's a hand truck.
09:14It's a hand truck.
09:15The hand truck was pulling Emma.
09:16I just put it right outside the edge right there.
09:18Yeah, that's what, like, right there.
09:20Yeah.
09:21Now you just got to spin it around.
09:24Somebody help me.
09:25To remember Poppy on his first heavenly birthday is not a sad time.
09:30I think, too, it's a time that it allows for everyone to really celebrate and devote time
09:38to talk about them, especially in that first few years of their passing, is part of, you know, the healing process.
09:44Poppy was always someone, too, that helped others and that taught his family to always be there for your family.
09:52I definitely think there are times like this where my dad does miss having me, Jonah, Anna, Alex, and Emma all together.
10:01But I think my dad is learning that this is nothing that they can force on Anna.
10:06It's going to take her to want to make the change.
10:08We all say happy birthday, Poppy.
10:10Happy birthday, Poppy.
10:11And I'm sure any holidays, birthdays, any big celebrations is when he'll think about it.
10:17But at the end of the day, it's her decision.
10:38I made it to Ohio, and I cannot wait to see Allie.
10:43Hi.
10:44Hello.
10:46It's nice to see you again.
10:48It's good to see you.
10:49How was the flight?
10:50It was good.
10:51It was really short, as usual.
10:52That's good.
10:53Yeah.
10:54Do you want to come inside and we could just stuff away?
10:56Yeah.
10:57And get the weekend started?
10:58Tomorrow is the first day of me helping out the harvest.
11:03Part of me is a little bit nervous, so I'm going to see if I have any farmer potential.
11:07There you go.
11:10Stay, dog.
11:11Stay.
11:12Stay, dog.
11:13So I'm visiting Allie and her family on the farm and today's the first day of me helping
11:28out with harvest.
11:29is the first day of me helping out with harvest.
11:31Let's go shell some corn.
11:36I have helped with the farming in the past,
11:38but it's been like a lot of smaller jobs, like running
11:40to get parts for like the tractors.
11:42Like, I haven't really helped on like this big of a scale
11:45like the harvest.
11:47Allie's family grows corn and soybeans,
11:49and today we're going to be harvesting some corn.
11:52Let's do this.
11:53You guys good?
11:54Yep.
11:54OK.
11:55As long as she knows what she's doing.
11:58I hope so.
11:59So as we were walking up to the tractors,
12:00they were pretty big.
12:02I mean, like I'm used to my dad's small lawn mowers.
12:23You ready?
12:24Yep.
12:25I'm not.
12:26Allie seemed really confident with the tractors,
12:28so that made me feel confident about the whole day.
12:31All right.
12:31Start her up.
12:32Ready?
12:32Yep.
12:36Tell me when.
12:38We're ready.
12:39Good.
12:39Yeah.
12:41I'm Allie's father, and we're out here harvesting corn today.
12:46The way we do it is I drive the combine,
12:49and Allie drives the tractor in a grain cart that follows
12:52alongside so we can unload as we are harvesting.
12:56This is so cool.
12:57This is my first time seeing this.
12:58But from what I've seen, I haven't touched any of the floor
13:00pedals.
13:01No.
13:02So that's good.
13:03In the grain cart, we don't have any pedal extenders
13:07or anything.
13:08It's all hand controls.
13:09It's all on the iPad and stuff.
13:11So I don't want to use my foot or anything.
13:13When I first did it, it was nerve-wracking.
13:15And it still is nerve-wracking, even though I've
13:18been doing it, like, two years now.
13:21If I get scared hauling a little trailer behind my truck,
13:23I can only imagine what it is, like, hauling that.
13:25I would say it'll take him, like, another year
13:28to learn for him to do it all by himself.
13:32Oh, he's ready to unload.
13:34All right.
13:35Show me what to do.
13:37This part, you have to concentrate.
13:41Because you don't want to go too fast or too slow.
13:43Yeah, exactly.
13:44That's my fear.
13:45So Allie needs to get this part right.
13:47Like, she needs to be perfectly aligned with Adam
13:50and his combine.
13:50Because if she's too close or too far from the combine,
13:54the corn will spill and spill into the field.
13:56And that could be an expensive error.
13:58Because once that corn is spilled,
13:59it can't be used anymore.
14:03Make sure you wind up.
14:05Oh.
14:06It's bumpy sometimes.
14:08Oh.
14:09So yeah, this is, like, the high-pressure part
14:11of, like, what we're doing.
14:13Get a little bit closer to me.
14:16Get a little closer to him.
14:18Although I probably shouldn't do anything
14:20because you know what you're doing.
14:20So I'll keep it all shut.
14:24Allie did the job perfectly.
14:25No corn was spilled.
14:26And everything came out good.
14:27I did have a few moments of, like, wow, my girlfriend
14:28can really do this.
14:29Looks like we're about done now.
14:30OK, you guys.
14:31Go put that on the ken horse.
14:32Got it.
14:33When the cart gets full, Allie unloads into the semis.
14:36And then they take the corn to the next place,
14:39where they either export it or it gets sold for feed.
14:46Put the auger down.
14:47Coming from a family of all little people,
14:48like, all of us proved that we can basically do anything
14:50an average nice person can.
14:51So it was really cool seeing Allie operate the heavy machinery
14:53on her farm.
14:54like, all the rest of her farm workers can.
15:08I definitely feel like I learned a lot today
15:11in the grand car with Allie.
15:13She made it all look pretty easy.
15:14I think she's doing pretty good.
15:15I definitely feel like I learned a lot today
15:17in the grain car with Allie.
15:19She made it all look pretty easy.
15:20I think she's doing pretty good.
15:22I mean, I guess there is something pretty attractive
15:23about a woman who knows how to operate heavy machinery.
15:28All right, good deal.
15:29How'd that go?
15:30Good.
15:30Didn't spill anything.
15:31That's key.
15:32Didn't spill nothing.
15:33All right.
15:33Good job.
15:36So after a full day of harvesting today,
15:38I think I would definitely consider this as, like,
15:40maybe my future job.
15:41Because, I mean, I would not mind working for Allie's dad.
15:43No.
15:44I think it would go pretty well with some more teaching.
15:46You would like it.
15:47You would like the help.
15:50You made it look easy.
15:52OK.
15:52Good.
16:05Oh !
16:14So Halloween is almost here, and we decided to do a cute little photo shoot with Layton
16:20since Halloween will be her last first holiday since Layton was born on November 3rd.
16:27So what better way to do it than sticking her in a pumpkin and hope she smiles?
16:31I put all the blame on this idea on Lolly.
16:36Lolly wanted to stick Layton in a pumpkin after seeing some pictures.
16:39Other things that we've done for Layton's first holidays, Boppa and Lolly brought some snow to the front yard for Layton's first Christmas.
16:49OK.
16:50It's like you can't snowball it.
16:51We attempted a Valentine's Day craft with her foot.
16:57Yeah.
16:58OK.
16:59That works.
17:00Daddy-O dressed up like a bunny for Easter.
17:02Let's see if she'll reach out at you.
17:04So we had a lot of good first holidays for Ladybug.
17:08It was fun.
17:09Let's strip her out of her onesie.
17:11I know.
17:12So do I just need, like, just, like, leaves?
17:15In her diaper.
17:16Yeah.
17:17I'll come help you.
17:19Woo!
17:20Hey!
17:21Since Layton has been to daycare, she has gotten quite sick a couple of times already.
17:27She's battled a couple of ear infections, and we've battled some respiratory infections.
17:31So me being a stay-at-home mom is definitely still on the table because we definitely don't
17:36want Layton sick all the time because it does take a damper on her personality.
17:41We don't want that.
17:42We want the happy little Ladybug that we have pretty much.
17:46Try to stick her legs through the hole.
17:48All right, girl.
17:49Make it!
17:50Boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo!
17:52Boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo!
17:55You might help her get her feet through.
17:57Boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo!
18:01Hey!
18:02Take her Pessie out.
18:03Layton!
18:04I know.
18:05Oh, this is so sad.
18:08Layton!
18:09Yay!
18:10Yay!
18:11Yay!
18:12Yay!
18:13Yay!
18:14Yay!
18:15We have never put our kids in a pumpkin.
18:18I so wish I would've.
18:20Especially Elizabeth.
18:21Like, she would've been so damn cute.
18:23Alex, I think, would've been okay.
18:25No.
18:26I was too old for that.
18:27Anna and Emma were definitely not babies when we adopted them.
18:30They were four-and-a-half and five-and-a-half.
18:32They definitely would not have fit in a pumpkin.
18:34Jonah would've been...
18:36Ada thrown up in the pumpkin.
18:37Yeah, he did not like any of that.
18:39I don't think I'd ever want to sit naked in a pumpkin.
18:44All right, we're done.
18:45Hey, girl.
18:46Do you so not like it?
18:47Nope.
18:48Do you so not like it?
18:49That was a fail.
18:50Give her the Pessie.
18:51Give her the Pessie.
18:52Babe.
18:53I definitely feel like if she was feeling good, I feel like she would've liked it.
18:58She would've probably failed to maybe try to put her mouth in there or something.
18:59I don't know.
19:00I really thought she would've been the kid to try to, like, bite the pumpkin.
19:01But since she's not really feeling the best, she...
19:02Wanted mom and dad.
19:03That's up.
19:04Yeah.
19:05Pretty much.
19:06We hailed at mom and dad.
19:07Layton, you want to look at your photos?
19:08The pictures didn't turn out the best.
19:09Oh, you're too nice.
19:10They were awful.
19:11Sad.
19:12Melt your heart.
19:13She's probably even going to laugh at her own pictures.
19:15We're gonna definitely gonna do a first birthday party.
19:16Mm- Hm.
19:17Yeah.
19:18Do your family, my family.
19:19Yes, you're turning one.
19:21You can try.
19:22Oh, you're too nice.
19:24They were awful, sad, melt your heart.
19:28She's probably even going to laugh at her own pictures.
19:32No, we're definitely going to do a first birthday party.
19:35Yeah.
19:35Do your family my family.
19:37Yes, you're turning one.
19:42You're going to try.
19:43She's just not having it.
19:44I got to figure out what's wrong.
19:47Come here, girl.
19:49It flew by for letting it be already one years old.
19:51I mean, like everybody says, when you have a kid,
19:54they grow up so quick, time flies.
19:56It really does.
19:57Because we'll look at pictures, and we're like, wow.
20:00Like, the baby pictures where the pacifier is bigger
20:02than her face, or she's smaller than the stroller.
20:05And now we're about to start walking,
20:07and we're trying to form words, and it's nuts.
20:11No, I'm sorry.
20:13That pump can just make you so unhappy, girl.
20:21Oh, that looks good.
20:23I can hear that.
20:25So after a long day of work with Harvest today,
20:27everybody on the farm crew is having dinner together tonight.
20:32But I have a complaint to make.
20:34Do you have a complaint?
20:35If you'll ever park the truck, do not do a very good job.
20:40So it's hard to unload, isn't it?
20:42Not hard, but challenging.
20:45Yeah.
20:46We have three daughters.
20:47Emma is our oldest daughter.
20:48She's 21.
20:49Allie is 18 and a senior in high school.
20:51And Megan is 15.
20:53And I'm really proud of our girls for knowing the agriculture
20:56and being able to run the equipment
20:58and showing their friends and boyfriends how to do it.
21:02Yeah.
21:02So Allie wouldn't let you drive?
21:05I guess not since it's my first time.
21:08Emma used to drive till Allie got to do it.
21:10No.
21:11I don't think she's let you back in, has she?
21:14No.
21:14She's taken over.
21:16I'm really proud watching Allie, because I did that a few years
21:19ago, so watching her take over.
21:20And obviously, she's a little person,
21:22so she's really good at adapting to her surroundings.
21:25Like, I don't have to help her really anymore with anything.
21:27She's good to do everything on her own and all that.
21:31It makes me a proud sister moment, for sure.
21:35What did you get to do today, Alex?
21:37I just rode along with Allie as she taught me
21:39some of the features of the tracker
21:41and how to do the auger on the green card.
21:44Did you like it?
21:45Mm-hmm.
21:46I really enjoyed it.
21:48When we first heard that Allie was going to have dwarfism,
21:51it was scary.
21:52We didn't know what to expect and what to do,
21:54and we didn't know anybody.
21:56Come to find out, there was about eight babies born in the
21:58Cincinnati area the year Allie was born that also had achondroplasia.
22:02It was important for us for Allie to know other little people and have that support.
22:08But then we kept hearing about National Conference and how amazing that was.
22:12We also flew to Spokane and Adam was sitting in the lobby talking to Trent.
22:17And then Amber came in and she took Allie and took him down and introduced her to Alex and Emma.
22:23That was about the last time we saw her all week.
22:25She said that's the one week a year she feels normal.
22:29Mm-hmm.
22:30Yeah.
22:31I'm going to take over here soon.
22:33From my surgery?
22:34Yeah, from your surgery I'm going to have to take over.
22:35In a few weeks Allie will be having leg surgery to kind of help straighten her legs out.
22:39So we were coming down to Atlanta to have that done.
22:42Leg surgery for individuals with achondroplasia is simply to correct the bowing in the lower leg.
22:51Allie's family decided to do her leg surgery in Georgia because they met with the surgeon that we use
22:57and they were very impressed and I think felt very confident and comfortable with him.
23:04So Allie's grown up in a family of all average height people.
23:08Mm-hmm.
23:09And you've grown up in a family of all little people.
23:11So thinking of your house, like you guys have the accommodations.
23:14Like is it harder for you to come up here?
23:16No, I mean...
23:17We've got the stools but we don't have things lowered.
23:19Yeah, you have the stools and that makes it just as easy.
23:21I mean just extra step but I mean it's not any more challenging being here than it is at my house.
23:26Yeah.
23:27We've always tried to make accommodations but you have to be able to function out in society also.
23:32Yeah, we have to start to learn just to adapt to the society that's not made for us.
23:35That's right.
23:36Yeah.
23:37That's right.
23:38I figured I learned some ways to adapt and to use my surroundings.
23:42Correct.
23:43You know, for your kids you always want to try and make life better for them and easier.
23:47But also don't make it too easy because she will have to go out into the world that's not made for her size.
23:54So she needs to learn at home how to adapt and figure things out.
23:58She's really grown to advocate for herself and tell us what she needs.
24:02I just need Allie or Jeremy to teach me how to use the auger on the green card.
24:05That's pretty much it.
24:06Okay.
24:07Everybody spills.
24:08So if you do you've just joined a really not good club of people.
24:12Because it happens to everybody.
24:13Seems like about every field we have to do it.
24:16I love watching Allie and Alex get to know each other.
24:19It's just been really awesome to watch them.
24:21It's been fun.
24:22Yeah, have their relationship and see it blossom.
24:26And a lot of times farms are passed down generation and generation.
24:29You know, your kids get into it.
24:31Allie loves this so much and Alex.
24:33Gosh, that would be our dream come true if they could keep this going.
24:37Right.
24:38Just sitting out there driving back and forth.
24:39That's all you do all day.
24:40Drive back and forth in a tractor.
24:42That's right.
24:43Or a combine.
24:44It's not that hard.
24:45Anyone can do it.
24:46Anybody can do it.
24:47I did it.
24:49Honestly, I think tonight is like,
24:51I would say like a little trial run on what our lives could be like in a few years.
24:54Like if I do commit to the farm, like this is what it could look like.
24:57And it's very exciting.
24:58I'm okay with that.
24:59Maybe I can major in farming and a minor in broadcasting.
25:02I can do a little bit of both.
25:03You can do that.
25:04I would like to enjoy the meeting.
25:06There you go.
25:07Very good.
25:08Very nice.
25:09Yay.
25:10Facial.
25:21So you can leave it alone.
25:24Are you going to help me pick up sticks?
25:25Yes.
25:26Today I am doing some cleanup down at the pavilion.
25:29I need to burn this pile of sticks before it gets too big.
25:34And then I still got that whole side over there that needs to...
25:40God.
25:42It's cold, Mama.
25:44Yeah.
25:45We couldn't have done this last week.
25:47Since it was cold, it's the perfect time to burn some branches and have some alone time.
25:54There we go.
25:56We're cooking with grease now.
25:59So have you talked to Emma and Alex about their talk with Ana?
26:04Not happy.
26:06Alex was not happy.
26:07They were quite stressed.
26:09Hey.
26:10Hey.
26:11Hi.
26:12Alex and Emma reached out to Ana to meet and have dinner.
26:16Since you missed Emma's graduation, I guess you've been real busy.
26:20I am very sorry about that.
26:23There was no communication with the family.
26:25And I know I could have just...
26:26I mean, but you could have been the one to reach out to us.
26:29It's always looked out.
26:30I'm the bad person.
26:31I'm the bad person.
26:32She made the decision to not attend the graduation.
26:38And all Emma and Alex were asking for is just an apology.
26:42Just say you're sorry.
26:43Oh, she never did say sorry?
26:45I mean, I think she said she's sorry, but it was, you know, followed up with,
26:50but I don't want family drama, blah, blah, blah.
26:54I apologize to Alex and Emma about missing their graduation.
26:58And I feel like they accepted it.
27:01But I wish all of them understood that, like, me pulling back from family events.
27:07Honestly, it's mom and dad.
27:09I didn't feel welcome being around them.
27:11Because we're approaching the holidays, we're in the holiday season.
27:16I mean, obviously this year, we're not even, like, our Christmas card is not going to be our whole family because of this.
27:24I have not seen anybody since that dinner with Alex and Emma.
27:28It definitely makes me sad because I want to see, like, my siblings.
27:31I want to hang out with my siblings.
27:33But I don't want to come to mom and dad's house if I am not welcomed by them.
27:39You know, Ana missed, obviously, Poppy's heavenly birthday.
27:43She missed the fall fest.
27:44And next is Leighton's first birthday and Thanksgiving.
27:47It's incredibly sad.
27:49I think you and I should try once more and we'll meet at a neutral ground, like a coffee shop.
27:58Not her living room or her home.
27:59Not her living room, not our house.
28:01And, I mean, come to an agreement with Ana to see if she'll come around.
28:11I would like for her to.
28:13I think it's important for Amber and I to try once again to have a sit-down conversation with Ana.
28:18As parents, we really would like to resolve this.
28:21On the basis that she's actually going to...
28:24Not just show up and sit there.
28:26And sit in the chair.
28:27She's going to participate.
28:29She's going to conversate.
28:31Everybody makes mistakes.
28:33But when you don't take ownership for yourself, what you have done, it's truly impossible to move forward.
28:43Ana needs to figure out how Ana is going to move forward with her family.
28:50Are you ready?
28:51Yeah, I'm ready.
28:52Ali and I decided to take a break from the farm.
28:53So we decided to visit a little pumpkin patch.
28:55And later tonight, I'm taking her out to dinner.
28:57Oh, look at that little mini tractor over there.
28:59Oh, yeah.
29:00Oh, I think it's for sale too.
29:01No, we don't need it at our house.
29:02Since both of us still live with our parents, it is kind of hard for us to find some alone
29:06time.
29:07So whenever we can get it, we always take it.
29:08For sure.
29:09I should've gotten a straw.
29:10I'll get you one.
29:11All right, thank you.
29:12Your best.
29:13When Alex got the straw for me, it was, like, it was cute.
29:14I'm sure you missed her.
29:15All right, I'm sure you did it.
29:18Since both of us still live with our parents,
29:20it is kind of hard for us to find some alone time.
29:22So whenever we can get it, we always take it.
29:25For sure.
29:26I should have gotten a stroll.
29:31I'll get you one.
29:34When Alex got the stroll for me, it was like, it was cute,
29:38because he's a good person, and he holds me out with stuff.
29:43I would say that he's a good man, and I enjoy having him.
29:47Do you want to get a picture at the Browns farm sign?
29:50Oh, yes.
29:52Something I love about Allie is just I love her personality.
29:55She is really caring and always checks up on me.
29:58She's just a great person overall, and she's beautiful.
30:02I like this area a lot.
30:03I would not mind moving up here.
30:04I think you should.
30:05You seem pretty dead set on staying here,
30:07so I don't think I have much choice.
30:08I am.
30:09I'm really excited about my future with Allie,
30:11and my ideal plan is that once I'm through with college,
30:15I think that's when I'll start looking at moving up there with her.
30:18I'm feeling like my family that I've talked to.
30:20Everybody's saying Georgia has a really good broadcasting program
30:23since that's what I want to go into.
30:25Oh, yeah.
30:26But then again, they've also said broadcasting
30:27is also a thing I can do from virtually at home,
30:29so I could be here and still farm and still do broadcasting stuff too,
30:33like on the side.
30:34Yeah.
30:35He loves the farm life.
30:36If you asked me now, I think both of us,
30:38we would say Alex would be the first one
30:40to really commit to relocating and moving to Ohio,
30:43and I have no problem with that.
30:44There's a wonderful family out there that has accepted Alex.
30:46I'm going to stay at my college for right now,
30:48just to at least get my core classes done,
30:50but maybe once I get those finished up,
30:52I may consider transferring.
30:54Speaking of college, I need to find where I'm going.
30:56Since I'm almost finished with high school,
31:00I will go to like a local college to do ag business.
31:04Since Alex is doing online college,
31:06I might do that as well.
31:08If you're doing classes like I am,
31:09now you'll have a lot more free time.
31:11I'll find free time to come visit you.
31:13Thanks.
31:14I'll always find free time.
31:15Yeah, the same for you.
31:16Yay.
31:17Do you want to go look around now?
31:19Yes.
31:20Just watch your step, though, getting out.
31:26In my eyes, I've got these feel good vibes.
31:29Come on, let's make it up.
31:32Make it up.
31:34We've got time to get back and drill outside.
31:38Come on, let's do this.
31:39Hello.
31:40Hey, guys.
31:41How are you?
31:42Doing well. How are you?
31:43So we were just gifted some land from my parents.
31:46They gave us a lot in the same neighborhood that they live in.
31:50And so now we are going to meet with a builder
31:54to give us estimates on, you know,
31:56the home that we would like to have to build on this lot.
31:58So tell me what y'all are thinking about doing.
32:00Um, so there has been land that has been purchased,
32:03uh, coincidentally, in our parents' neighborhood.
32:06Uh-huh.
32:07And it is a one-acre lot and there's a pond,
32:10but from the looks of the land, it slopes down.
32:13Mm-hmm.
32:14And we had a potential blueprint,
32:15but we're not really sure if this blueprint will suit the land.
32:18Right.
32:19And we're really just trying to figure out if barnuminiums are obviously the biggest,
32:24um, trend right now.
32:26A barnuminium, you really can think of it like a giant shed.
32:30And it's something that Bryce and I have looked into because it is a little bit more affordable.
32:34And you can kind of customize it to any way that you want within a reasonable price.
32:39We do have some in-house plans that we build all the time that are very popular,
32:45but, um, for your situation,
32:47I mean, you're going to probably want something a little more customized than those.
32:50A little bit, a little bit with my, uh, intricate family.
32:54So I definitely want a walk-in shower simply because it is more accessible for me.
32:59Really, there's no other LP accommodations that I would want in my home right now.
33:03Just because since we do have an average son's daughter,
33:06I cannot raise her in a home, uh, where everything is my height.
33:10If I was building a house from scratch, I mean,
33:13there would be some things, uh, that were tailored to me,
33:16but nothing more than kitchen stools and, like, maybe some lowered light fixtures.
33:23Lower the kitchen cabinets, stuff like that, just make it a little bit more accessible.
33:27Having maybe an elevator in a house would be cool instead of stairs.
33:32That would make it more fun.
33:34Okay, well, we don't think of that, but still.
33:36It'd be just like the fridge messing up.
33:38You'd just call the maintenance guy.
33:39Yeah.
33:40On a typical barn dominium plan, most of them are on a slab foundation.
33:45Okay.
33:46Of course, that we'd have to see.
33:48We may be able to do some grading on your lot to get it to where we can accommodate a slab.
33:53Uh, a lot with a slope like that is typically gonna be either a basement or a crawl space,
33:58depending on how steep the slope is.
34:01There have been multiple lots that we have looked at with my dad,
34:04with the land being not super flat.
34:06We are aware that grading and tree removals can be quite pricey.
34:11For a typical, I'm gonna say, four bedroom, two bathroom house, so probably about 2,200 square feet,
34:17how long does that typically take for you guys to build?
34:20Um, six to nine months.
34:21Six to nine months.
34:22Six to nine months.
34:23It's important to me to have mine and her own space with Layton.
34:30With the timeframe of the builder giving us six to nine months to build the house,
34:34um, me and her are a little pressured to get that done before her second birthday.
34:40So, the shorter we have to wait, the better.
34:43Cause I would way much rather it be us three on our own and just enjoying it.
34:50And then, um, the only other thing that we might run into that would be a concern is,
34:56if we were doing a basement foundation, of course we have to dig into the ground.
35:00There may be some rock or something that could be a challenge to dig through.
35:05With the added expenses of needing to grade and remove trees and add a basement foundation,
35:11we've realized that this is definitely going to, um, require more money and more time to be able to build this home.
35:19I'm just nervous about whenever we go to the land,
35:22if like we're not able to build in the spot that we want to build,
35:25or, uh, we're just going to have to rethink a whole different blueprint.
35:29So, this meeting with the builder definitely may change our view on the land,
35:36whether we want it or not.
35:38There could be a chance where it could be more closer to Layton's third birthday instead.
35:43And we don't want that.
35:44So, should we continue with, you know, keeping the land and building,
35:48or should we go back to looking and just simply buying a house off the market?
35:52We definitely need to think about it.
35:54Thank you so much. It was nice officially meeting you again.
35:57Good to meet you.
35:58You ready? Yeah, I'm hungry.
36:10Get some Cincinnati chili.
36:11Yeah, I'm hungry.
36:12Me too.
36:14So, tonight is my last night in Ohio,
36:17and I figured I would treat Allie out to a dinner with some Cincinnati chili.
36:21I'm not sure what I want.
36:24There's a lot of options.
36:28A good way to describe Cincinnati chili is, like, a more runny,
36:31that sounds gross, but kind of like a less, a less thick chili with, like, cinnamon in it.
36:35It's usually served, like, on a big plate of noodles or, like, hot dogs or fries,
36:39so it's kind of versatile on anything, really.
36:42Can I have chili cheese fries, please?
36:46And I'll do the two cheese ponies.
36:50I stutter too, so you're good.
36:53I stutter all the freaking time.
36:55So, Allie and I both have a stutter when, like, when we get nervous.
36:59That is something we have in common.
37:01We both like to be very organized, and we both like to know what's coming up ahead.
37:04So, yeah, we're both pretty similar in those fields.
37:08And she's even about to have the same leg surgery that I had quite a few years ago now.
37:12So, are you nervous for your leg surgery any?
37:15I'm nervous to put under.
37:18From, like, all the surgeries I've had, going under is, like, the easiest part.
37:21Just read it in a few breaths, and you're out.
37:23Yeah, I'm just telling myself that it's a deep sleep.
37:26It is.
37:27It really is.
37:28So, I'm having surgery in two weeks, which will make my legs straight, and so I can walk
37:35proper, and I don't have, and I don't walk on my ankles anymore, which I am really excited
37:40for.
37:41I've been looking forward to this day for a long time, and I can't wait.
37:46Here's me before my surgery.
37:48Like, you can see, like, how bad my legs were bowed.
37:53You can tell how bad they were.
37:55My legs are like that.
37:57That's awful.
37:58I don't like it.
37:59Alex had his surgery very young, because his bowing was so extreme, he could not pull
38:04his pants up and down by himself.
38:06Elizabeth had the surgery post-puberty, when she was 13, because during puberty the growth
38:13rate is higher, and therefore the dwarf bones stayed dwarf, and then the non-dwarf bones,
38:19you know, continued to grow, and we ended up with bowing that also was creating back problems
38:25and things like that.
38:26Dad wanted me to mention this to you.
38:28You're probably going to have to get, like, a piece of wood, as you can tell, like, with
38:31Liz underneath her legs, just so they can stay upright, so they don't, like, fall down
38:35like this, so they don't stay straight.
38:37I will tell my dad that.
38:38And Liz actually had to get her hair washed outside, because she couldn't, like, go in
38:41the shower or the tub.
38:42That is one thing that I'm going to do.
38:44Yeah.
38:45Figure out.
38:46Since Alex has already had surgery, I'm not too worried about it.
38:51Like, I already know what to expect.
38:53He's told me, and I know that it's going to be okay.
38:57Mom, Dad, and I will be there at the hospital on your surgery day.
39:00Oh, yeah.
39:01So we'll be there when you wake up.
39:02Yeah.
39:03Looking forward to that.
39:04Mm-hmm.
39:05I'm just excited for the whole thing.
39:07So, in a way, the surgery is kind of a plus for me, too, because I'll get to see Ally
39:11more often, and she'll be a lot closer.
39:13Yeah, like, an hour away instead of eight hours away.
39:15Yeah, an hour away instead of eight hours.
39:17Yeah, exactly.
39:18It's nice.
39:19Thanks for having me up here these past few days.
39:21I've really enjoyed it.
39:22When are we going to see each other again, besides my surgery?
39:25My best bet is, like, New Year's trip I always make, or I've made the past two years.
39:30Mm-hmm.
39:31So, not too much longer, actually.
39:32Yeah, like, a month.
39:33Just a month, two months.
39:35Yeah, not bad.
39:36Yeah.
39:37And as if we're seeing each other halfway through it, it'll make it go by faster.
39:40Yeah.
39:41It's kind of nice that we're at the point of a relationship where we have, like, traditions
39:44now.
39:45Like, I always make that trip at the end of the year, and it's been the last part of the
39:48holidays with Ally and her family, and, like, spending New Year's with them, so.
39:52But yeah, I'm going to miss you.
39:53I'm going to fight home tomorrow.
39:54Yeah, it's going to be sad.
39:56It is hard waiting to be really close with Ally, because I love being up there whenever
40:01I get the chance.
40:02I've met the woman I'm going to marry, and I just can't wait to count down the days, and we'll
40:07eventually be together for the rest of our lives.
40:14Next time on Seven Little Johnstons.
40:19Are you the birthday girl?
40:21Today is officially Leighton's first birthday.
40:24I don't know why.
40:25There's only one person she absolutely despises, and it's Heidi.
40:28The goal for the first birthday party for me today was just not to make her cry.
40:32Oh, dude.
40:33It's a pretty game.
40:34Yeah.
40:35Okay.
40:36Okay.
40:37Heidi.
40:38That was Ashley.
40:39Good.
40:40Getting to the point where there's a ring talking.
40:41I have not thought of how I was going to propose, obviously with a ring.
40:42I could be with her right now, but mine's strictly finance.
40:43I think it's going to be kind of like the tornado.
40:44Tornado's here, everybody take cover.
40:45That's how we're going to find out through Jonah.
40:59I'm starving.
41:00My two good girlfriends, who are now aunts to Leighton, we decided to get together and
41:09just talk and catch up.
41:10You are now engaged.
41:11You really get a good look at it.
41:12I've expressed to Bryce whenever he feels ready to propose.
41:16We're going to give you all of your merch.
41:17We're going to be rich on that.
41:18We're going to be on the podcast.
41:19We're going to be great for you.
41:20We're going to be adding another show.
41:21We're going to be in a house for the month.
41:22We're going to be able to get together because we're going to be able to get together.
41:23I'll be at a little bit by that.
41:24I know.
41:25I'll be able to make a party so you can notice how the party is waiting for everybody to
41:26come back in and steal, and get a very little details.
41:26But of course, it's going to be very interesting.
41:27The party's going to be on the coastline and get really good.
41:28It's going to be the field that are going to be possible.
41:29I'm going to look for you.
41:30Yeah, so it's going to be a good idea that everyone can see
