Aaron Sorkin says he's working on a new potential 'Social Network' sequel. The Oscar-winning screenwriter shared that he's writing a new movie that could serve as a sequel to his 2010 film during a live-from-D.C. edition of 'The Town' podcast.

00:12While discussing how Facebook and social media have influenced democracy in the years since
00:16the social network was released, Sorkin shared this.
00:19Look, yeah, I'll be writing about this. I blame Facebook for January 6th.
00:27When asked to explain why, here's what he said.
00:29You're going to need to buy a movie ticket.
00:31Oh, you're going to write a movie about this?
00:33I'm trying.
00:33Oh.
00:35The screenwriter then elaborated.
00:37Facebook has been, among other things, tuning its algorithm and tuning its algorithm to promote
00:47the most divisive material possible.
00:51He continued, because that is what will increase engagement.
00:54That is what will get you to what they call inside the hallways of Facebook, the infinite scroll.
00:58There is supposed to be a constant tension at Facebook between growth and integrity.
01:04There isn't. It's just growth.
01:07Sorkin says that he blames Mark Zuckerberg for this.
01:10Sources close to Sorkin confirmed Friday that the writer is working on a social network-adjacent
01:14screenplay, but emphasized the project is in its early days and there's no studio partner
01:18as of yet.
01:19Sorkin was previously working on a script about January 6th that ultimately did not move forward.
01:23It's unclear if some elements from that effort will find their way into the new script,
01:27but these are actually two different projects, one active and one not.
