The streamer is set to release a sequel to 'A Madea Homecoming' in what will be the 12th installment of the franchise from the prolific creator-producer.

00:00It looks like Tyler Perry is not bidding farewell to Medea after all.
00:05The prolific creator and producer is bringing his iconic character out of retirement,
00:09this time for Netflix. Perry is planning a 12th installment of the film franchise
00:13A Medea Homecoming for a 2022 debut on the streaming service.
00:18The feature will be shot at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta,
00:21where the multi-hyphenate films most of his projects.
00:23Medea was first introduced on stage in the 1999 play I Can Do Bad All By Myself.
00:29Since then, the character has been at the center of other theater productions
00:32and dozens of films, TV shows, and even a book.
00:36In 2019, Perry talked about retiring the Medea character as he premiered a Medea family funeral,
00:41telling The Hollywood Reporter,
00:43I don't want to be her age playing her, so it was time to shut it down and move on.
00:47I've got some other things I want to do, and in this next 50, I'm going to do something different.
