00:00The Trump administration is putting its March executive order into action,
00:04moving to dismantle the Department of Education.
00:08This week we took the most decisive steps thus far to make good on this promise to you.
00:12We have linked six groundbreaking partnerships with other federal agencies
00:17to delegate education department programs that are redundant.
00:20What does this mean? Is the Department of Education no more? Let me explain.
00:25The Trump administration is divvying up the agency's different responsibilities
00:30and sharing them with the departments of Labor, Interior, Health and Human Services, and the state.
00:36So technically Trump isn't eliminating it.
00:39Cause well, only Congress has the power to do that.
00:42And Congress hasn't given any indication that they support closing the Department of Education.
00:48Why does Trump want to shut down the department again?
00:50These interagency agreements to cut our own bureaucratic bloat
00:54are a key step in our efforts to shift educational authority
00:58from Washington DC to your state education agency.
01:02They say they want to give education responsibilities back to the states,
01:06but this move doesn't really do that.
01:09Kevin Wellner, a professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder,
01:13told Straight Arrow News that this just moves staff around,
01:16but everyone's roles are still the same.
01:18Some experts told Straight Arrow News that the giving it back to the states message
01:22doesn't make much sense since states already run public schools.
01:28More on that and which roles are being spread across other departments at the website.
