00:00It's day 14 of the government shutdown, and Congress is no closer to a solution than they
00:04were on day one.
00:05I was nine years old in the third grade when Chuck Schumer got here, okay?
00:09He is the broken status quo.
00:11For the Republicans, cruelty is the point.
00:14No wonder Speaker Johnson says we're barreling towards one of the longest government shutdowns
00:18in history.
00:19Here are three signs the government is nowhere near reopening.
00:25Reason number one.
00:26The Trump administration, specifically the Office of Management and Budget run by Russell
00:30Vogt, is looking for ways to pay federal law enforcement officers who are required to be
00:34on duty without pay.
00:36In addition, the administration is looking to use tariff revenue to fund the Supplemental
00:40Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, or WIC.
00:43More than six million people rely on WIC for support.
00:46If the government was about to reopen, those programs and employees would have the money
00:50they needed, and there'd be no reason to look for alternative funding sources.
00:54In previous shutdowns, funding has always been identified to make sure that the Women, Infants
01:00and Children program has been funded.
01:04And we expect that that should happen during this moment in time as well.
01:08Reason number two.
01:09Both sides think they're winning.
01:10Chuck Schumer said last week, every day keeps getting better for us.
01:14Democrats think Americans will see their insurance premiums increase at the end of the month
01:18and blame Republicans.
01:20The GOP believes Democrats voting no on a continuing resolution over and over again will come back
01:26to haunt them.
01:27We're barreling toward one of the longest shutdowns in American history unless Democrats
01:31drop their partisan demands.
01:32Why in the world are House Republicans still on vacation?
01:37They're reinforcing the narrative that they could care less.
01:40That brings us to reason number three.
01:42House Speaker Mike Johnson has kept the chamber out of session for the last three weeks in
01:47a row.
01:48It appears he won't call representatives back to Washington until they have something to
01:51vote on.
01:52So that could mean this shutdown won't end until seven Senate Democrats agree to vote
01:57for the continuing resolution that they've been voting on this entire time.
02:01And so far, only three have done that.
