00:00No more surveillance! Tell them all! No more FLOC! No more ALPRs!
00:05Tell the government we don't want to be spied on! Take the cameras down!
00:09We're here today to actually inform the public about the FLOC camera that is in use right here on Route
00:1659.
00:17I've been reporting on law enforcement technology in the surveillance industry for more than a decade.
00:23And frankly, I've never seen a situation quite like this, where a company has become a viral sensation on the
00:31Internet, where people across the political spectrum are pushing back.
00:36People from different political ideologies have their different arguments of why FLOC in particular has become such a lightning rod
00:45issue.
00:45So I'm here in New York to figure out what is motivating people to come out and protest at FLOC
00:52safely.
00:52This is a premier protest spot and has been since the Iraq war.
00:55Recently, the local government tried to close it down and stop us from protesting here.
01:00And now they've put up a FLOC camera to watch us and get all of the data from every car
01:06that passes by here and every protester who stands here,
01:10so that they can know where we are, what we're doing, and send all of our data up to the
01:15federal government.
01:15What we're seeing here is that FLOC cameras have been really abused by law enforcement.
01:21The problem is, this is invasive.
01:24It is against our rights for information to be collected on all of us, no matter who you are and
01:32what your status is.
01:33To have information collected and just stored for who knows how long and for what uses, to me, it's very
01:40hilarious.
01:40While I was learning more about AI, I learned about these FLOC cameras and these ALPRs and how they're used
01:47for really sinister predictive policing.
01:52And I was shocked just kind of with how I learned about how many data centers were in Rockland.
01:56I was surprised to know just how many of these cameras there were, how quickly they went up, and how
02:02cloak and dagger it all was.
02:04It seems like all of a sudden they were everywhere and there was no discussion about it.
02:07I set up this protest about a month ago.
02:09We were expecting about 50 people.
02:11We have about half a dozen instead.
02:13It's got a lot of traction online, and if that traction online translates to people power and people calling their
02:18representatives
02:19and telling them that we don't want surveillance cameras, we don't want to be spied upon, then it'll still make
02:25a difference.
