00:00Relief tonight for the Tardier family as Derek Tardier and his wife Clarabel have been reunited nearly a month after they were kidnapped.
00:08Police confirmed Clarabel Tardier was freed around 4 o'clock this morning along the North Coast Road.
00:14In a media release sent around midday, police said officers acted on intelligence and went to the North Coast Road near Maracas Bay
00:20where Clarabel was found with her hands and feet bound and her face covered.
00:25However, police say she appeared, apart from that, to be unharmed.
00:29ACP Richard Smith of the Criminal Division revealed how she was found.
00:33Officers of the Northern North Division, in a collaborated effort with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by Sergeant Caesar,
00:41proceeded to North Coast Road to Maracas Bay as a result of a call from the captors.
00:47Upon their arrival, they found Mrs. Tardier in one of the vendors' shed at the side of the roadway.
00:52The ordeal for the Tardiers began on December 6th last year, after they were both kidnapped from their Monos Island home located down the islands.
01:01A video later circulated on social media showing the distressed couple.
01:05In the footage, Derek appealed to his brother to comply with the kidnapper's demands, which reportedly included a ransom of U.S. $2.5 million.
01:13A hand holding a grenade and a gun pointed at the couple could also be seen in the video.
01:19As relatives of the Tardiers remained optimistic, good news came on December 17th, last year, when Derek was released by his kidnappers along the North Coast Road.
01:29Sources say a $100,000 ransom had been paid for his release at that time.
01:33Now, his wife's freedom occurred three weeks later.
01:36Sources say ransom was also paid to secure a release, but they could not confirm a definitive figure.
01:42Despite the release of the couple, police are yet to apprehend any suspects in the kidnapping,
01:47though they continue to probe the matter and are hopeful of a breakthrough in the not-too-distant future.
01:53Last year, police apprehended suspects in at least three kidnapping cases, some of which ended in fatal police shootings.
