Walton Goggins says he waited six months (and seven hours) to film that highly anticipated scene during Sunday's episode of 'The White Lotus.' Warning! Major spoilers from 'The White Lotus' season three, episode seven ahead! Goggins told The Hollywood Reporter that the apparent culmination of his antihero's journey — where his character Rick confronts the man he believes killed his father — wasn't filmed until almost the very end of the Thailand shoot, and the relief on his face at the end of the episode is as much his own as it is Rick's.

00:00The build-up to this episode, seven, I knew it six months earlier, seven, eight months earlier,
00:09I read all of the scripts and I knew what it would take in order to get to that moment.
00:15And it was all building towards that.
00:17Walton Goggins says he waited six months and seven hours to film that highly anticipated scene
00:22during Sunday's episode of The White Lotus.
00:24Warning, major spoilers from The White Lotus Season 3, Episode 7 ahead.
00:29Goggins told The Hollywood Reporter that the apparent culmination of his anti-hero's journey,
00:33where his character Rick confronts the man he believes killed his father,
00:37wasn't filmed until almost the very end of the Thailand shoot.
00:40And the relief on his face at the end of the episode is as much his own as it is Rick's.
00:45It took me six months and seven hours of this experience to smile, to really smile.
00:58Goggins has not been shy about how difficult The White Lotus shoot was for him.
01:02Rick's reasons for being so surly weren't revealed until the season was halfway done.
01:06It takes until Episode 4 for the audience to really understand the motivations for this guy
01:11where everybody else's motivations are pretty clear, you know, in Episode 1.
01:17His motivations were, of course, revenge.
01:19Goggins shared this about filming the scene where Rick confronts Jim, played by Scott Glenn.
01:23Rick, he's just a lost boy, isn't he?
01:27You know, and he's just looking for answers as much as he's looking for revenge.
01:34And over the course of that conversation, predicated on
01:40the things that had happened before at the White Lotus and, you know,
01:48things that he's kind of come in his life or maybe he was always capable of this transition,
01:52but are reaching this level.
01:55But he saw him for who he was.
01:58Rick, of course, decides to spare Jim in that moment.
02:15And true to the indulgent spirit of The White Lotus,
02:17the abandoned revenge killing is followed by a Bangkok bender,
02:21with Sam Rockwell's character Frank abandoning his sobriety.
02:24And while Frank really lives it up,
02:25it's Rick who looks happiest with the events of the day.
02:27As an actor, all of a sudden, you know,
02:3210,000 pounds off my shoulder was lifted.
02:37And that smile was so genuine.
02:44It was real, you know?
02:47And getting to go through that experience with Sam Rockwell,
02:52was arguably one of the great times of my life.
03:04The White Lotus will release its season three finale on Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO and Max.
