At the premiere of 'The White Lotus' season three, Natasha Rothwell chats with THR on the carpet and says she never expected to appear on the show again. Plus, she teases how season three is darker and talks about missing Jennifer Coolidge on the show.

00:00Congratulations! So when Mike asked you to come back was that a surprise or had

00:04you kind of always known that was on the table? No I mean when we did season one

00:08it was pitched to us as a limited series one and done and so after season two I

00:13was just cheering for everyone else like you know when you know watching from

00:17home so I didn't I didn't think there was a another chapter for Belinda so I

00:22was so excited to find out there would be. What did you think when you kind of

00:26read Thailand and read the the journey for Belinda this time? Yeah I mean truly I

00:30said yes to Mike before I knew where we were going or any of the scripts but

00:34after I binged what I mean binge read all of the script I scripts I was so over

00:40the moon and just excited yeah for this story. And it's kind of the one return or

00:46were you like giving advice to these cast members or how did that work? I mean I

00:50used to be a teacher back in the day so I tried to impart my wisdom to them and

00:54tell them to expect anything and you know shooting on location is not an easy

00:58thing and so a lot of it was just like tips and tricks you know sneak a granola

01:02bar in your bag because we're going you know we're going far or something. Yeah it

01:07was really nice to be received in that way and you know support them. And Mike has said

01:12these two are this one is darker than the past two do you how do you kind of feel

01:15about that? I agree but I also think that light and dark necessitate each other and

01:19so even though there is a lot of dark there's a lot of light yeah. And the

01:24themes this season what can you kind of say about the themes? Yeah I think this

01:27is the story of how we close the gap between who we are who we were and who we

01:33want to be right and I think that's a hard thing and wherever you go there you

01:38are so you have a bunch of people that are going on vacation hoping to leave you

01:41know that version of themselves back home and they have to meet you know

01:45themselves and you know you can only change your mirror so many times and

01:51then you realize no that's you. So it's really cool to see these characters

01:54wrestle with those demons and it makes sense especially being in Thailand. Yeah.

02:00I know Jennifer Coolidge this season you obviously experienced the first one with

02:04her. What was that like not having that kind of energy as part of it? Yeah I mean

02:08it's a little bit of a phantom limb you know it was that we spent so much time

02:12together the first season especially because we weren't permitted to leave you

02:15know the resort and but she was so supportive and sent me some

02:18encouraging text when it was announced that I would do it so super sweet. Yeah.
