00:00Starts phase three now to give us any chance whatsoever of finishing this renovation on time
00:08But we haven't finished the basement yet. Yeah
00:15We just have to make the best of it
00:18That's all we can do with the mud on. I look 25 years older. Oh
00:27Finally
00:30Oh
00:33She's been such a pain hasn't it this driveway it's like giving birth once it's over you don't remember the bad bits
00:40You just think oh look this is our new baby
00:46I'm ready well, I don't if I am I believe is your weapon ready as I'll ever be
00:55Hardcore harman
00:57Now that the glass doors off of the living room have arrived. I'm really excited. Yeah one
01:05One two three
01:09This is the dream
01:11this is
01:12What we hoped life in Spain would be like?
01:16The frame is in there all way around. I love doing things twice
01:20I just let one thing to be finished
01:22Oh
01:24The wind is in
01:26You know me
01:28As we head into the final month or so of the renovation
01:42Things are starting to come together
01:44The first floor is done
01:46The pool is working
01:50And the other spaces from phase two are close to completion
01:54Now working on phase three which focuses on the ground floor
01:59Housing Jasmine and John's bedroom lounge diner and the kitchen
02:04The demolition phase is well underway
02:10While he's currently away for work a few months ago
02:13John helped remove the walls the living room and the kitchen has now also been ripped out and the wall on the entrance hall side quickly removed
02:21The most annoying thing about the new
02:25Open plan space is that column it would just be so nice if it wasn't there
02:31While everyone involved has always assumed it's a load-bearing column that can't be removed
02:36Builder Quinn and the team have spotted something that should please Jasmine
02:40Pretty small isn't it?
02:42Yeah, pretty small
02:43That's really small
02:44Definitely a concrete column but it's not very big
02:47There couldn't be a pillar out of brick it wouldn't hold any weight
02:50I think so
02:51Maybe I have to get someone to have a look at it
02:53Because I definitely did not expect that to be a brick
02:55I could have told it was a concrete column there
02:57Definitely not
02:59Maybe I can get an engineer to have a look at it
03:02It looks like Jasmine might be able to get the completely open space she wants after all
03:08Oh my gosh
03:11Yeah, it's pretty chaotic
03:13How's it going?
03:14Yeah, it's going
03:15It's all going isn't it?
03:17What we've discovered is this isn't actually a concrete column
03:21Huh?
03:22It's just brick
03:23Really?
03:24I think it might be a good idea if we get an engineer to come in and see if it's even necessary
03:29Because I've got a feeling and it's not
03:31So if we can get rid of that we can really open up the space
03:34I mean we all thought it was a column didn't we?
03:35Yeah
03:36But it doesn't seem to be one
03:38It's just brick
03:39It's just brick
03:40Which I can't see that brick supporting
03:43Being structural
03:44Because why would you do concrete columns everywhere else and it would just be brick?
03:47Yeah
03:48So what's holding the house up?
03:50Well, yeah
03:51Hope?
03:52No, I'm joking
03:53No
03:54There's two columns
03:55I really hope that we can get rid of that column
04:00There's clearly loads of work to be done in there
04:04And with the builders now very much occupying the main living space
04:08Jasmine and the family have moved downstairs
04:10I'm just making myself a bit of lunch
04:15And I'm down in the basement
04:18This is how we're living
04:22Literally
04:23The fridge
04:25I have to go through the plastic
04:28I have to fight through all the stuff down here
04:32Whoop
04:34All this
04:35And the fridge is in here
04:39But I shouldn't complain
04:41I'll just be happy when this door goes on
04:43I don't have to go through a plastic sheet anymore
04:46I have to get to the fridge
04:47Our plan was to finish everything down in the basement
04:55Then move down there
04:57So that the guys could move upstairs and start taking out the kitchen
05:01And doing all the work on the ground floor
05:03Everything here in the summer kind of closes down
05:06So you'll go down to like skeleton staff
05:09And for example the worktop guys
05:12They have the whole month of August off
05:15So if we don't get our kitchen in
05:21And the templates done for the worktop
05:23Before that cutoff date
05:25Then we will have no worktop for the entire summer
05:29That's why we're in such a rush to get it done
05:33With the kitchen now the priority and John away
05:36Jasmine's heading into Malaga City to choose a worktop from her preferred supplier
05:42I've come to the city of Malaga today
05:48Because I'm on the hunt for a kitchen worktop
05:51I think the worktop is possibly the most important decision you make in a kitchen
05:56Because it's the bit that you're looking at all the time when you're chopping
06:00You know it's on top of everything else
06:02So yeah
06:04It's something that I wanted to make sure that I got right
06:10Kind of have in mind what I want
06:18I think I'm going to go for something quite light in colour
06:21Because the kitchen is on the north side of the house
06:24So I want it to be bright as bright as possible
06:27Since this worktop company works closely with the supplier of Jasmine's kitchen
06:33They have a sample of her cabinet doors on hand
06:36There's my door
06:37There it is
06:38And we can see different options and you can start playing with it
06:43I mean it looks really nice
06:53I just I'm not that
06:54The feeling
06:55The feeling
06:56It doesn't make me want to
06:58It's a different feel
06:59Lie down on it and just go
07:01Yeah
07:02Which some of the other ones do
07:04What are the price differences between natural stone or the other ones?
07:11Roughly would be
07:13Standard countertop would be between 2,000 euros and 3,500 euros
07:21So it would be probably around 1,700 pounds
07:27Mm-hmm
07:28To about 3,000 pounds
07:30Something like that
07:31Okay so and is that for a kitchen based on a kitchen
07:33Yeah
07:34The size of my kitchen
07:35Mm-hmm
07:36Okay
07:37This one in Silestone is in a lower price
07:41So probably is in the lower range of those prices
07:44I like this one a bit more now
07:45Yeah?
07:46You like it?
07:51I mean there's so many to choose from
07:53Yeah
07:58Mm-hmm
08:00A lot of options, huh?
08:01Do all your customers come in and go
08:03No it's normal
08:04People get crazy here
08:05No worries
08:06Yeah
08:07Right
08:08I'm gonna pick out my favorites
08:09And just put them next to it
08:10Yes
08:11And then see
08:12We're gonna give you
08:13I'm gonna give you a small sample of each color that you like
08:15Okay
08:16And you're gonna bring it home
08:17And then
08:18Yeah
08:19Start thinking about it
08:20Okay?
08:21Because you have a
08:22Different options
08:23I think I've found it a lot more difficult to actually choose one than I thought
08:28There are so many elements to think about
08:30It's the worktop next to the doors
08:34The door handles
08:35The floor
08:36The sink
08:37The taps
08:38The tiles
08:39You know all of those things have got to work together
08:41So it is important to make the right decision
08:44I think it was 2,000 euros
08:47So about 1,700 pounds
08:49And 3,500 euros
08:52So about 3,000 pounds
08:54Then that's quite a big difference
08:56Thank you very much for coming
09:02Thank you so much
09:03Hasta luego
09:04Hasta luego
09:05Gracias por venir
09:06Bye bye
09:07Bye
09:08The next day it's back to the messy work on site
09:21Day 2 of the demolition
09:25And they're getting everything ready
09:28Rebecca from the kitchen company is coming this afternoon
09:31So there's quite a lot to do
09:33Oh you alright?
09:34Are you good?
09:35Oh wow
09:36Yeah I know
09:38It's vanishing quickly
09:39It's going down quick
09:40It's coming down
09:41Wow
09:42Definitely
09:43I know
09:44It's just right in the way isn't it
09:45It's a bit of an eyesore
09:46But I've spoken to an engineer
09:48And he says those types of blocks
09:50Which we already thought
09:52Are not load bearing
09:53And because the column doesn't go all the way through the house
09:55Oh
09:56It's not going to be a structural column
09:58So I do think we can
10:00Yeah I think we can take it out
10:01Oh my gosh that's brilliant
10:03Which is just going to completely open this room up
10:05Look how much nicer that's going to be
10:06It's already
10:07It's already looking so much brighter in here as well
10:09So
10:10It's just going to transform this space
10:11It really is
10:12It's actually like you come through that front door
10:13It's just the first thing you see
10:14And it's all open
10:16And then that's right in the middle of your view
10:18And we're very lucky that it isn't structural
10:20I mean you can do the honours if you want
10:22I need
10:23I will do the honours actually
10:24If that's cool
10:25Get kitted up
10:26Got my hair on
10:27Whatever I can do it
10:28That's really exciting
10:30I'm ready
10:33Well
10:34I don't know if I am actually
10:35Well here's your weapon
10:36But
10:37Ready as I'll ever be
10:38Where shall I aim for
10:39I go for the middle or the
10:41Towards the top
10:42Towards the top
10:48It's quite strong isn't it
10:51It's time to start smashing down some walls
10:54Put
10:55Ah
10:57Oh
11:00It is time
11:02I've got one bicep
11:03It's gonna be like huge
11:04And the other one's just
11:17Good job
11:18That hasn't fallen down yet
11:20Keep going?
11:21Yeah if you want to keep going
11:22Top bit. Yeah, I'll go for something
11:31Don't mess with me hard call
11:43Just
11:45Got rid of it with my own bare hands and it was quite satisfying
11:49It's completely changed the space in that room. It just makes it a much better space. I'm really happy
12:08It's another sunny day down on the Costa del Sol
12:12The kitchen wall and column have been successfully removed just in time for Rebecca from the kitchen company's visit
12:22Okay, so we do the easy bit first
12:24Yeah, okay the plumbing so we're gonna have hot too cold and also we're having a hot boiling hot tap
12:33Working with builder Quinn, Rebecca is marking out all of the electrical plumbing and appliance points
12:39To make sure Quinn is fully prepped for the kitchen installation
12:45And if you do two sockets that way
12:48Yeah, and Jasmine also has some decisions to make your lighting in your wall cabinets
12:55Do you want them all switched from one switch or do you want them switched from underneath? They'll have a remote. Oh
13:01Oh
13:03That's fun. I think I underestimated how much there is to do
13:08before
13:09The actual kitchen units go in we want to get the floor done
13:14all the electrics done
13:17Ceilings and all everything on this side of the room as well so the living area because it's open plan so all the windows done
13:24Basically everything needs to be finished. I can visualize it exactly how I've seen it on the design
13:31I think it's gonna look even better now that this column is gone. I think it will just be a
13:39Fantastic big open space. I think this is going to be perfect
13:44With Rebecca in the kitchen left in Quinn's capable hands and John still away on a work trip
13:50Jasmine heads into town to run a few errands
13:53But it's not long before she's needed back on site
13:58I've just been at the local council office getting some paperwork done and I've had a call
14:05Saying that something's happened here, but I don't know what it is
14:08So I'm obviously thinking the worst like the house has fallen down or something when I after I took the column out
14:16Hello
14:18We've hit a pipe because these pipes are very close to the top if you want to probably continue with marble
14:26We might have to get these pipes moved lower into the ground
14:29It's obviously marble by itself is about three centimeters. Yeah, which is not ideal because it's just
14:35See how high it is. There's that. Yeah, I can see. Yeah, so is it the plumber coming to my message it
14:40Yeah, so when the plumber gets ill I'll have a chat with them and see
14:44How easy it's gonna be to actually move those pipes lower. It's not ideal, but it's nothing this can't be done
14:52Okay, yeah, speak to the plumber then and see these things happen when you're doing a refurb
14:58You don't know what you're gonna run into all right. Okay. I'm getting used to yeah
15:03Hiccups along the way. It's a part of it. I suppose
15:07Just it me just means that everything's slightly more complex and takes a bit longer than
15:13Expected yeah, I guess you're used to it. Yes. All right. Well, keep me posted posted and I'll let you know what the plumber says. Thank you
15:20Okay, cool
15:23And a few hours later the plumbers have been and there's an easy solution
15:29Don't know why I didn't realize this at the time, but where they are is going to be underneath the kitchen units
15:36so even if
15:38we put the
15:40Same marble as we've got in the rest of the house throughout the main kitchen
15:43And it just stops before those water pipes and we can maybe cover those with something else just the thinner tile
15:49Then we don't have to do all that digging out and
15:53Relocating all those water pipes. No one's ever going to see it. Anyway, it will be underneath the kitchen
15:58I mean, it might just slightly mess with my head a little bit knowing that it's different tiles under there
16:04But I'm at this point. I'm happy to to let that go
16:08The next morning it's another sunny but busy day with loads going on
16:25the doors have arrived for the living room
16:29balcony I think
16:32They're probably quite heavy
16:34So I'm gonna leave it to them
16:36Just
16:42Despite having already taken out two walls and a column opening the kitchen to the living room
16:48There is more to go
16:50Jasmine and John want to take out the wall to the terrace as well
16:53Replacing it with a series of sliding doors
16:55Look lovely, don't they?
16:57Yeah, they're nice windows these are
16:59That's the way to do it quicker
17:01I think he's done this before now. It's great now that the glass doors off of the living room have arrived
17:12I'm really excited
17:14I'm really excited. They're huge and I think when they're installed it's going to look amazing
17:21There are four doors in total costing nearly four and a half thousand pounds
17:25A pretty big investment
17:27Each just over a meter wide and nearly two and a half meters tall
17:32Because it was a festival last night a lot of the builders haven't come into work this morning
17:39So not everyone is here to help carry
17:43I think having all that lovely glass is going to be such an improvement on what the room looked like before
17:52We didn't want to take out the windows and doors that are there before the other ones were on site just in case
17:58But now they're here they can just get everything ready
18:05I mean I've had my feel of noise and dust
18:11But I'm gonna have to suck it up for a few more days I think
18:15I'm hiding down in the basement trying to get on with other stuff
18:20Trying to get everything that the designer has put on the plans
18:27Delivered in time. So there's just so many things going on. I'll leave them to it and try and ignore the noise and the dust
18:35But before the current flooring in the living room becomes covered in debris. There's a decision to be made
18:42We decided to try and match the original marble floor
18:47Take it and take it all the way through to the kitchen and so we got hold of a few samples to have a look at to decide which was the best
18:55So I think
18:57Obviously that colour that one's out. That's out isn't it? I know some I know some of the the marble tiles have got a bit of that warmer colour but
19:04Yeah, that's definitely out. I think that's not right. Yeah, that's the clear winner, isn't it?
19:10I wonder
19:12Well, once it's polished that will look like that because we've got to polish the old floor
19:17Yes, that's what I think
19:19Will that come up?
19:20Yeah, that will come up a lot. That's a lot. There's 20-30 years of dirt and flattening on that, you know
19:25It will polish up to the same as this. I think it will mold in really well. I think it will be fine
19:30If you look at that one, for instance
19:32There's hardly any difference between them two. No, exactly. I mean that's already in there
19:38So, I mean they're all different. Everyone is different. That one's white that one next to it. Yeah, look at this beige
19:45Yeah, exactly. It's great that one. That's what happens with natural products. That's why you don't pick them
19:50You know, you don't sort through them. You just lay them as they come more. It's there the more it looks it looks right than it
19:56The more it's later. It'll be good. All right, so we're sorted on the floor. I can order that then. Yeah, okay. Thank you. No problem
20:04This marble is from a village called Makael in Almeria, so it's a few hours drive away
20:09It's kind of local marble, which is why so many of the properties here have that same floor
20:17But it's used all over Europe. It's a really really beautiful marble product
20:25So I feel very lucky that we live so close to it and we can have it in our house
20:31With that decision made Dominic's team start work on removing the two sets of double doors that currently provide access to the terrace
20:43While Stephen the expert window fitter in the team makes quick work of removing and then
20:48Installing a new window in the kitchen that was delivered alongside the four doors and cost roughly
20:55eight hundred and fifty pounds
20:59With it quickly becoming one of the noisiest and justiest days of the project so far
21:04Jasmine manages to escape to her regular dance exercise class. It seems she's really starting to get the hang of it
21:11I do love going to my exercise class down
21:16Down on the Paseo right in front of the beach
21:20It's what has kept me sane over these last few months. I can switch my phone off for an hour
21:28And just focus on the class
21:33It's a little bit of
21:35Time out it's a respite from all the chaos here
21:39Invariably when I then finish the class and take my phone out of my bag
21:44I've got 16 million messages about various things and I get home to utter pandemonium
21:51Almost every time, but at least I've had a little bit of time out from it
21:56While back at the house with the doors now removed Dominic and Stephen are taking on the task of bringing down the wall
22:09It's wobbly now
22:19Get over that side Ryan
22:21Just go down there
22:23Don't let it go totally just sort of
22:25Because it's not as heavy as you think mate
22:27Go on then
22:29Don't get in the way
22:30Don't let it go yeah?
22:31Yeah one two three
22:39It's not as heavy as you think though is it?
22:41They're all the bricks
22:42Yeah they're all the bricks
22:47There it is look beautiful
22:49And once the rubble is removed Jasmine's vision of a light filled open plan living space is really starting to take shape
23:05Oh my god
23:09Where is everyone?
23:11Oh my god
23:13That looks amazing
23:19Oh my god
23:21That's so worth doing
23:23It looks amazing
23:24I'm not going to start crying
23:26But I feel like I might
23:28It looks amazing
23:30For me so far
23:32That is one of the best
23:34Improvements
23:36In this house that we have done
23:38I love it
23:39You alright Dominic?
23:40Big enough hole in the wall
23:42It looks amazing
23:43It's going to be great isn't it?
23:45Yeah it's really good
23:46It's going to look fantastic
23:47That's one great thing in Spain that you can just take out
23:50Yeah
23:51In the UK you have to have lintels
23:52Yeah
23:53All sorts of hassle
23:54It's because of the way they're built you know here
23:56Yeah totally
23:57Yeah it's going to look lovely
23:59Oh thank you
24:00Once it's finished
24:02Yeah that'll be fab
24:04Having avoided a dusty and noisy week of demolition in the kitchen and living room while abroad for work
24:23John's back for the weekend and treating the family to a few hours away from all the mess
24:29It's Friday night
24:33We have come down to the beach near our house for a barbecue and just to hang out now that the weather's so beautiful
24:40This is what it's all about living by the beach
24:44Kids how good an investment was this trolley?
24:46Yeah that's brilliant
24:49Now we can get even more stuff to drag to the beach with us
24:52We've started doing it maybe once or twice a month coming after school and having a barbecue on the beach
25:00It's amazing I mean the kids love it and the reason we moved to Spain was to give them more outdoor life
25:05So lift the parasol up there we go and then put the lever down
25:12There we go
25:14That's great
25:16I mean genuinely there's a few times we've done this that I've had to sort of pinch myself and go this
25:21This is what it's all for
25:24This is it
25:28We've got some really nice Spanish produce
25:30We're gonna barbecue some vegetables and some veggie sausages
25:34Can't get any better than this
25:35John loves to do a barbecue so we'll have our dinner down here and just chill
25:50Happy?
25:52Mmm this looks so good
25:54One mushroom
25:55Oh look there's a hot dog out of nowhere
25:57There you go
25:58Thank you
26:00Thanks
26:04Yummy
26:05What me or the hot dog?
26:06Music
26:07The water was absolutely divine
26:21Absolutely amazing
26:24the water was absolutely divine absolutely amazing i love swimming in the sea it just
26:37makes you feel that you're part of something much bigger to be able to have the opportunity
26:48to just stroll down five minutes get in the water have a barbecue with the kids just spend time
26:56together it's this is the dream this is what we hoped life in spain would be like and once
27:06everything's finished in the house we don't have to worry about that anymore we'll be doing this
27:10all the time and i'll be able to switch off without thinking oh i must order those tiles
27:16or i must make a decision on that floor it'll be it'll be like this all the time that's what i'm hoping
27:23with the demolition for phase three now complete jasmine is eager to shift her
27:46focus to the next stage interior designer laura who previously visited the property has been
27:52developing ideas with her team alongside one of them olivia she's now ready to present their concepts
27:59hi laura hi hi hi how's it all going out there it's going well we're standing in our living room
28:08now we've we're missing a wall there ah so that's all gone that's been taken out i'm sure it'll all
28:14come together soon but look we're really excited to chat to you today the design team's done some
28:19fantastic work once uh we've explored the layout actions and reviewed the inspiration images here
28:25we have your final design oh it looks nice so there there's the table behind the sofa
28:35yeah that looks lovely so we're talking about the sofa being across the middle of the room here
28:43so that'll be the living room zone and then back there the dining table it's really nice to do a
28:51sort of gallery wall with art and collectibles and bits and pieces that you know um and actually now
28:58that central column is out in the window it's going to flood even more light yeah right to be honest
29:03until the last day or two well i mean until today you couldn't really visualize what this room space
29:10empty might look like but now it is now that wall and that window have gone and now we see the plans
29:16yes yeah it's good oh that is beautiful i love that color it's so nice
29:25i think one of the tricks of painting um the background dark is the tv if you do decide to
29:33have one in the room actually blends into the background rather than it being a focal point which
29:38i think is a really clever and cost-effective trick yes looks beautiful can we just show you the final
29:45floor plan of it all coming together yes please oh god i can't wait for that day honestly oh that
29:54looks great so this is the final annotated floor plan it's amazing yeah it will look even better in reality
30:01when it's finished oh i can't wait seems like we've got a mountain to climb yeah yeah it will all come
30:10together really quickly at the end renovation work is incredibly stressful there's always surprises but it will come
30:17together you just gotta have faith yeah it looks great thank you so much you you have all been
30:23amazing i could not have done this without you and i have got a lot of shopping to do now
30:30to get everything to put it all together but i really really can't thank you enough
30:38yeah we're kind of drowning a little bit in stuff so uh being able to have you help us not drown and
30:45be our lifeguard is great thank you so much it looks amazing bye thanks so much thank you bye
30:55happy visualise it uh yeah it was good if it turns out looking half as good as what it looks on
31:02it's monday morning and there's a day or two of making good and preparation to be done before the
31:19huge 11 meter square window frame can be installed with plenty of people on site to deal with that
31:26jasmine and john are upstairs finishing off another project that's been bubbling away in the background
31:32when we did joy's bedroom makeover we sort of held our hands up and we basically ran out of time to
31:37do her sun terrace and yet the footprint of her sun terrace is huge so we were keen to kind of get
31:43it turned around now in time for the summer finally all the bits that i'd ordered for out there have
31:51arrived and we made some time to assemble everything and put it all together so while she was at school so
32:01it's great to be able to finally get that ticked off the list while jasmine and john already had the
32:09outdoor furniture set bought a few weeks ago at a local supermarket for around 500 pounds amongst other
32:16things they've added a water feature costing 120 as well as an egg chair and day bed around 300 pounds each
32:26it's hot but it's done now it's a bit flimsy i've got to get a couple of extra screws to put into it but
32:41you know looks all right
32:42it's huge oh my god it's giant so the idea behind joy's balcony was to tie it all in with the
32:58rainforest theme in her bedroom so it's not completely rainforest but there's definitely a few touches
33:06like the rug um and it all connects quite nicely while it's not matchy matchy it just works together
33:15and some of the textures in her bedroom meet some of the textures that are out on her terrace as well
33:22so i hope she'll like it
33:26all right keep your eyes closed step up now keep coming don't look up keep your eyes closed
33:33that terrace when we first came here to have a look around the first thing that hit you was the smell
33:39look at this
33:47it was like rotting drains it was disgusting there was a dilapidated hot tub that was full of green
33:56slime and slime and mosquito lava and yeah it was hideous it made me gag
34:06is he actually throwing up i don't know i mean it is quite gross okay you can open your eyes
34:12what do you think
34:25i knew she'd go straight to the egg chair
34:32is that what you've been wanting
34:34do you like it joy it's nearly as good as the bedroom oh
34:41no wait change her mind it's better than the bedroom this is great oh she looks so happy
34:49now you've got your ultimate reading corner
34:54now that terrace is possibly one of the most inviting areas of our home you know thanks to all the help
35:03from laura and her team because they sourced all the bits and came up with the concept
35:08which works so nicely with joy's bedroom
35:11they will interconnect so i'm really happy with it
35:16how do you like the rug it's so pretty what about your day bed
35:22can i join you and if it's like super sunny you can pull your little curtains joy
35:29this is relaxing it's like you've got your own living room outdoors
35:35yeah it's so cool
35:37this is nice might end up actually sleeping out here joy
35:42what about you you might you can set yourself something up on the roof terrace
35:46this is my balcony oh it's lovely
35:52if i had something like that when i was 11 years old i you know
35:55i would have thought all my christmases had come at once really pleased with how that's turned out
36:01and now i can tick another thing off my list which means on to the next big thing
36:09the doctor's just given me the all clear i don't have to come back the bone is 100 healed and i can play sports again
36:23it is i mean genuinely when he told me i nearly started crying
36:46it feels like it's been a really long five months
36:49what with everything else but hearing the news that i don't have to come back i don't need another
36:54x-ray and my leg is the bone is healed his wife the bone is good you can play sport again
37:03great news
37:09despite that momentous moment for john back on site jasmine has little time to pause and celebrate
37:15as there's plenty to get on with there's so much work going on at the moment everywhere
37:22loads of people here working today trying to get as much done in as short a space of time as possible
37:30what's happening at the moment in the kitchen is all the preparation for floor ceiling plumbing electrics
37:40plastering um we're going to have a little bit of a false wall on that side as you can see
37:47it's not quite ready yet but fingers crossed it will be very soon
37:55over at the other end of the room preparations are being made to install the large frame that will house
38:01the four glass doors to the terrace
38:03it's a tricky job the opening needs to be exactly the right size and straight and level all round
38:12over the course of the day plenty of progress is made with many hands on site
38:17but by the evening they've run out of time to install the doors
38:21the idea was to only take this wall out when the window or the doors to go in there had arrived
38:34which they have arrived i think there was a little bit of an oversight with installing it because we
38:40need that marble step uh before we can install it so the marble company are rushing it through for us but
38:48obviously um we still have to wait a little while but yeah i don't think i'm going to be able to sleep
38:58with this like this
39:01the next morning by the time dominic makes it to site the marble step is sorted the frame installed
39:16and the door slotted in but there's a problem two big doors never hit they locked to each other didn't
39:22no nothing else the two big doors back to each other yeah wait one minute
39:29is the frame the wrong way around yeah the frame's the wrong way around isn't it yeah
39:34got to be there the frame is in the wrong way around which is a pain in the butt
39:42well to make it work with this it's got to go around the other way we need to take these
39:47doors out and then flip the frame around which is not hard and then uh it's the time we've lost
39:53that you know it's not a hard job it's just the time but we better get on with it yeah before we
40:00let's triple check this before we move it hold on hold on
40:05now this one turned around would lock it in here and that tooth would be there but your handles
40:15would go on the outside wouldn't they yeah got you yeah it's definitely wrong it's definitely flip it
40:23come on who's the strongest the four two and a half meter doors weighing nearly half a ton in total
40:31i shifted once again that's it on there beautiful slide it along this is use your brains here not your
40:43muscle go on that's it beautiful perfect take that out steve and turn it around
40:53the team remove flip and reinstall the frame around you go go on mate a bit further oh go on mate yeah
41:07watch that chandelier that's all mate go to you
41:13i love doing things twice
41:15if construction was easy everybody would be doing it
41:25despite that slight miscalculation progress is being made while jasmine's left without doors for
41:32another evening the next step is to install them hopefully this will be our last night without
41:40having a wall or a door um yeah it's not ideal i'll just let one thing to be finished anything just
41:53one bit i could take off my list
42:10the next morning jasmine gets her wish as after a couple of hours of work okay oh new windows in
42:21they're in oh my gosh long time coming it looks great but the house is secure
42:29there you go they look really nice yeah it was good the whole room it just opens up everything
42:35yeah so it's lovely a little bit of plaster a little bit of yeah little kitchen only a few
42:41little tiny things left to do that's it yeah they were fun because uh they're like 120 kilos a piece
42:49so oh what each each piece yeah it's the glass bit it's um protected glass in it so you can't go
42:56straight through it oh yeah that's a good proper gear you don't mean so that's why they're so heavy
43:02it's also the solar yeah glass isn't it they look really nice i think it's it's that is probably one
43:08of the biggest transformations isn't it of the whole renovation is to open up that whole wall and
43:14their sound the sound rating on them is way higher than you used to have you know looks really lovely
43:21the previous ones were single glazed and obviously because they had all that leading as well yeah you
43:25just didn't get a nice aspect outside good i can take something up like this psychological that is
43:30you all right it is very much psychological that's great all right well thank you so much that's
43:36cool i'll chat to you in a bit yeah yeah no problem i think it actually completely transforms that space
43:43because when you walk in through the front door you can already see straight out to the back you can
43:49see the greenery you feel like you know it's just inviting so i think it is definitely worth having done
43:58that and i think having that whole wall of glass is going to be lovely
44:09living in the basement it's been really hard getting it finally finished and looking amazing
44:15is going to be superb it's really important that jaz and i try and grab little windows of time together
44:22when we can my dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this he's very much a perfectionist
44:32don't turn too early
44:38it's looking amazing isn't it good never in my wildest dreams did i ever think that something
44:45like this would be a reality
44:57so
45:05so
45:09you
45:09you
