00:00China reiterates its rejection of foreign interference in Venezuela's internal affairs.
00:20The Honduran government achieved a drastic reduction in poverty rates,
00:23according to the latest report by the National Institute of Statistics.
00:30And Ibiad is making positive progress in the construction of its first nuclear power plant with the support of Russia.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Delezu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
01:00And churches in Venezuela and the United States joined together in prayer for peace.
01:06A bi-national prayer for peace event was held at the Miraflores Palace,
01:10attended by President Nicolás Maduro, who emphasized the spiritual unity of Christian churches.
01:14During the event, the head of state greeted the evangelical congregations and their pastors,
01:19highlighting the role of churches as a source of strength for the nation.
01:23In this regard, the president recalled a letter sent by a U.S. pastor,
01:27who expressed support for joint prayers and concern about threats issued by the U.S. government.
01:33President Maduro emphasized that the purpose of the meeting is to reaffirm values of truth and life,
01:41as well as to strengthen the unity of the peoples around faith.
01:48The evangelical and Christian churches are my refuge and strength in this time of tribulation for the nation.
01:56I called on them and they came to me. They called me and I have always been with you.
02:16We are more united than ever today. And I thank you, pastors, people of God and of Christ, for your spiritual support.
02:26It is the greatest of all. The spiritual power is the greatest power we can have.
02:32There is no other power that can do everything like spiritual power, which is the power of God.
02:39And China reiterates its rejection of foreign interference in Venezuela's internal affairs.
02:47Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mounting confirmed Beijing's condemnation of any action that violates the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,
02:55respect for sovereignty and regional security. In this regard, Beijing urged Washington to promote international cooperation
03:01through legal frameworks that guarantee peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
03:06Since the United States military deployment in the Caribbean, China has joined the list of countries that have expressed their support for the Venezuelan people.
03:21And the diplomatic dispute between China and Japan has escalated, originating from statements by Prime Minister Sanaita Kaishi on potential military support for Taiwan.
03:30Beijing has once again banned imports of certain Japanese products.
03:34On Wednesday, Li Jiang, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, confirmed that Tokyo must withdraw its erroneous statements about Taiwan,
03:42and warned that if it fails to do so, Beijing will take strict countermeasures.
03:46In fact, one week after the threat met by the Prime Minister that she would respond militarily against China in defense of Taiwan,
03:52Beijing decided to suspend imports of Japanese seafood.
03:56China claims the need to continue monitoring the water release into the ocean, but that restriction had already been overcome.
04:02As far as I understand, the Japanese side previously pledged to fulfill its supervisory responsibilities regarding seafood exported to China, and to ensure product quality and safety.
04:20This is a precondition is a precondition for Japanese seafood to enter the Chinese market.
04:23However, Japan has so far failed to provide the technical materials it committed to.
04:27I also want to emphasize that, due to the Prime Minister's retrogressive actions and erroneous remarks on major issues such as Taiwan, there has been strong public outrage in China.
04:36Under the current circumstances, even if Japanese seafood were exported to China, there would not be a market.
04:43In this political scenario, the government of the United States approved on Monday the sale of an advanced missile system worth almost $700 million to Taiwan.
04:56On the deal, the Pentagon reinforced the U.S. rock-solid commitment to armed Taipei.
05:02The national advanced surface-to-air missile system, which has been battle-tested in Ukraine, offers a sharp boost in air defense capabilities and marks U.S. second weapons package to Taiwan in a week, bringing the total cost of the sale to $1 billion U.S.
05:17U.S. President Donald Trump authorized the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia during the meeting at the White House with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
05:32The agreement also includes the purchase of nearly 300 tanks and the signing of a strategic defense pact to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.
05:41During the meeting, Prince bin Salman announced that Saudi Arabia plans to increase its investments in the United States to nearly $1 trillion, especially in technology and artificial intelligence.
05:51For his part, President Trump reiterated his interest in having Saudi Arabia join the Abraham Accords.
05:57However, Rajat has insisted that it would not do so without real progress toward the creation of a Palestinian state.

06:33Welcome back. In the United States, new documents released by Democrat lawmakers mentioned former Colombian President Andres Pastrana on at least four occasions in the file of sex offender Jeffrey Abstain.
06:49The files, which include flight records, emails and timelines reconstructed by the Miami Herald, point out that Pastrana was among the passengers on the trips where minors were also present,
07:00according to the testimony of the tycoon's pilot, who claims he was unaware of the crime being committed.
07:05The documents rekindled doubts about the former president's relationship with Epstein, who had been facing sexual crime charges since 2005.
07:14Pastrana has denied any improper connection and maintains that his recorded trip was in response to a very special invitation.
07:21And Honduras records a drastic reduction in poverty announced the National Institute of Statistics this Tuesday in Tecucigalpa.
07:36The director of the organization, Jose Eugenio Sosa, explained the comprehensive report that reflects the sustained decrease in poverty and unemployment in the Central American nation of the past five years.
07:48According to the Permanent Household Survey 2025, overall poverty fell by 73.6%, while extreme poverty decreased from 53.7% to 38.3%.
07:58Additionally, the study shows that the population above the poverty line has increased, reflecting a significant improvement in living conditions.
08:06The study also confirms that the workforce now totals 4.2 million people and the unemployment rate has dropped to 4.9%.
08:15The data of poverty data, we can talk about poverty in general, which fell from 73.6% of households in poverty to 60.1% of households in poverty, a reduction of 13.5%.
08:35While extreme poverty fell from 53.7% to 38% of households, a reduction of 15.4%.
08:45An Argentine activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, warned of maneuvers that could lead to an electoral coup in Honduras.
08:55In a letter addressed to the former President Manuel Zelaya, he stated that he had received information about alleged actions within the National Electoral Council aimed at altering or invalidating results.
09:07This information claims that the actors involved would seek to disregard a potential victory by candidate Risi Moncada.
09:14In this regard, the international figure denounced the involvement of opposition sectors and hegemonic media
09:20and emphasized that the international community will remain vigilant during the Honduran electoral process.
09:25In Paraguay, the defeat of the conservative Colorado Party in the municipal elections in Ciudad del Este has redrawn the political map.
09:44Analysts are predicting the end of the Colorado Party's hegemony.
09:47Let's take a closer look in the following work.
09:51The mayor of Ciudad del Este, Miguel Prieto, had been removed from office after being persecuted and set up,
09:59which led to early municipal elections in the capital of the Department of Alto Perin.
10:03There, the Colorado Party suffered its worst defeat in history, with a difference of 40%.
10:08The victory in these municipal elections in Ciudad del Este, the second most important city in the country,
10:17by an opposition candidate who had been brutally removed from office by the courts,
10:23and who managed to prevail, defeating the Colorado candidates breathed new life into the Paraguayan opposition.
10:29The Colorado Party sustained the longest military dictatorship in South America,
10:39and has governed Paraguay for more than 70 years.
10:42After the last general elections, it moved forward with a process of concentrating power,
10:46and abusing institutions, without any strong opposition.
10:50The strong impression is that Hugo Cartz has preeminence over the government, over the Colorado Party.
10:57The Partido Colorado se disolvió sin pena ni gloria.
11:00Was dissolved without fanfare, and the clearest proof of this is that Cartz and no one else spoke there,
11:05apart from blaming each other for the defeat.
11:07What began as a political persecution against an opposition mayor, ended up positioning Miguel Prieto as an emerging figure
11:17who is heading straight for a presidential candidacy.
11:20But he did a very good job in Ciudad del Este.
11:25I usually go there to teach and give lectures.
11:27They have electric buses, which Asuncien will never have.
11:30It's not that it will have them later, it won't have them at all.
11:33Asuncien can't even have a metrobus system.
11:35The city is clean.
11:38For political analysts, Miguel Prieto is a leader without a clear ideological definition,
11:44but with positions that place him in favor of the excluded majorities, the popular classes.
11:49In addition, he has a great ability to work with opposition groups.
11:52I believe that they understood that, in a country with such a traditional, conservative ideological background as Paraguay,
12:01it is not such a good idea to hang up a sign that says I am left-wing.
12:08But I believe that many of his actions and thoughts correspond to progressive policies that are close to the people.
12:15I believe he is basically a pragmatist.
12:18With one year to go before the municipal elections and just over two years before the general elections,
12:27the sectors that govern Paraguay in favor of only a privileged minority,
12:31see their continuity in political power threatened by the emergence of new winds of change.

12:41The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies ratified the bill designed to combat criminal organizations known as anti-facciones.
12:47With 370 votes in favor and 110 against, the proposal gained support to move forward to the next stage of deliberations.
12:54The text adds modifications that distance it from the proposal made by President Lula da Silva.
12:59The bill has already undergone six modifications from the original text.
13:02Among other notable aspects was the creation of the crime of structured social dominance,
13:07with penalties of between 20 and 40 years in prison.
13:10The bill was initially promoted by the national government,
13:13with the aim of modernizing the legal framework for groups such as the so-called first command of the capital.
13:24An Uruguay private school teachers union launched a 24-hour national strike to demand a wage increase.
13:34The union stated that the final stage of the wage council round has been completed,
13:38in which the union seeks to conclude a collective agreement that improves the living conditions of workers.
13:43In turn, the measure is part of the defense of real income increases,
13:47the incorporation of revisions every six months that guarantee purchasing power,
13:51and the extension of leave for health reasons.
13:54In relation, the teachers union demand a budgetary response that meets its needs.
13:58On Tuesday, a judge in Mexico City brought charges against free people arrested during November 15th protest,
14:16organized mainly by young people from the so-called Generation C protest movement.
14:21The defendants, identified as Daniel, José Luis and Enrique, will remain free during their trial,
14:26although they must report to sign in every 15 days as a precautionary measure.
14:31Likewise, five other detainees will remain in preventive detention while their legal situation is being determined,
14:36after requesting an extension of the deadline to review their cases.
14:40According to the authorities, those involved could face sentences of between 4 and 16 years in prison
14:46if they are found guilty of the crimes of robbery, assault and attempted murder.

16:46At the virtual meeting, the Russian head of state highlighted the importance of the project for peaceful nuclear energy.
16:51The plan, which will consist of four units, with a total power of 4,800 megawatts,

17:16In Palestine, thousands of children in Gaza face the risk of severe illnesses and even death due to the harsh conditions of the winter season.
17:36Ahmad al-Hendawi, regional director of the organization Save the Children, reported that this Wednesday several families woke up submerged in wastewater
17:44after recent rain flooded the deteriorated tents.
17:48Over the weekend, more than 13,000 homes were affected, with an estimated 700,000 children living in those households.
17:55In this regard, authorities pointed out that the rainwater and wastewater mixed due to the collapse of the sanitation system.
18:02On the other hand, the director of the organization reminded that in the last two winters, 14 children died from hypothermia
18:09and warned that this tragedy cannot be allowed to happen again.
18:14On Tuesday, the Iranian government expressed its strong rejection of the recent UN Security Council Resolution 2803 for Gaza, promoted by the United States.
18:26The news was made public after it was deemed to establish an international protection regime over the Gaza Strip
18:33and deprived the Palestinian people of the right to self-determination.
18:36The measure, approved by 13 votes with China and Russia abstaining, provides for the creation of an international stabilization force.
18:43This mechanism is rejected by all Palestinian groups as an action that favors the interest of Israel
18:49and weakens the possibility of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
18:54The Iranian government assures that any decision on the administration of the Palestinian territories must arise from internal consensus and not from external impositions.
19:09An Israeli bombing of a Palestinian refugee camp in the Lebanese city of Sidon left at least 13 dead and dozens injured.
19:16Information was provided by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, which said the number of dead could still increase.
19:21According to local reports, the bombing targeted a parking lot inside the Ain al-Hilwi refugee camp in the city of Sidon.

19:55In South Africa, volunteers from the environmental group Alexandra Water Warriors dive into the polluted Josque River to clean it up as part of their fight against plastic pollution.
20:06The group was created out of a need in the community as when the river rose, it carried rubbish and sediment causing damage to the city of Alexandra
20:14and preventing children from getting to school and townsfolk from continuing their basic tasks.
20:20Since their formation in 2021, the group has advocated for the ability of anyone to care for the environment without the mediation of NGOs and leaders,
20:28being themselves a resident-led group born out of a shared desire to make the municipality cleaner and safer.
