00:11Venezuelan acting president Elsie Rodriguez visited the Brisas de Maiketia Temporary Camp
00:17for Humanitarian Aid from Turkey is being distributed to earthquake-affected families.
00:26In Paraguay, the Coordinating Committee of Rural and Urban Workers assumed protests after
00:31meetings with government authorities yielded no agreements.
00:39United States launches new wave of attacks targeting Iranian marine control in the coastal
00:44city of Xavahar.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South, I am Lorena Fon from the Telesur Studios in Caracas,
00:57Venezuela.
00:58We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:19Venezuelan acting president Elsie Rodriguez visited the Brisas de Maiketia Temporary Camp
01:23where humanitarian aid from Turkey is being distributed to earthquake-affected families.
01:28During the visit, accompanied by the extraordinary ambassador of Turkey to Venezuela, Nancy Aidan
01:33Karamonoglu, the Venezuelan authorities highlighted the joint efforts between both nations to provide
01:38comprehensive assistance throughout the Venezuela Rises Plan.
01:41The support includes medical supplies, tents, essential goods, healthcare services, and
01:46assistance for families who have lost their homes or relatives.
01:49The camp currently shelters 659 affected families, receiving support focused on improving
01:55living conditions, providing food and medical care, and helping residents safely return to
02:00their homes as recovery efforts continue.
02:08Here we are witnessing a helping hand and a constructive effort.
02:11We are at the Brisas de Maiketia urbanization camp together with community representatives,
02:16the governor, and the mayor evaluating how to restore the homes that have already been declared
02:21safe and habitable so families can return.
02:23Alongside the Ministry of Public Works and the Venezuela Renace Plan, efforts are underway to repair and rehabilitate
02:29these homes, allowing affected families to safely go back to their residence.
02:33We also extend our gratitude for the humanitarian aid provided by Turquie, as the supplies that
02:38arrived in the shipment are being distributed among the temporary camps to support those affected.
02:42The charge is for the distribution of the camps.
02:46The Venezuelan acting president, Delsa Rodriguez, received 88 containers of humanitarian aid donated
02:51by CARICOM member states to support communities affected by the June 24 earthquakes.
02:56The shipment includes large quantities of food, bottled water, diapers, mattresses, clothing, and medical supplies,
03:02as well as heavy machinery, power generations, and water pumps to assist with recovery efforts.
03:08In addition, a medical brigade of 32 doctors and surgeons arrived to help provide health care services
03:13to those affected.
03:15Acting President Rodriguez thanked the governments of the Caribbean nations for their solidarity
03:19in support highlighting the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, and regional unity
03:23between Venezuela and CARICOM during this time of emergency.
03:31Today has been a day dedicated to inspecting the international humanitarian aid received by Venezuela.
03:37We have come to thank President Putin, his government, and the Russian people for the assistance
03:42that has arrived in our country.
03:44I feel deeply moved because I am here alongside CARICOM nations, our Caribbean brothers and sisters,
03:50who through great efforts coordinated by Guyana have all sent aid to Venezuela.
03:55In Venezuela, efforts to clear debris and recover the bodies of the deceased are underway in a wide state
04:01three weeks after the double earthquakes.
04:03The national government deployed heavy equipment to remove debris from buildings damaged by the June 24 earthquakes.
04:08In this context, relatives of the victims, volunteers, civil protection agencies, and international teams
04:14are collaborating in the search for the bodies of the deceased
04:17and remain hopeful that their loved ones will be found alive.
04:20These efforts are part of the plan proposed by the national government called Venezuela RISE.
04:37The United States, a group of 14 Democratic members of Congress, called on President Donald Trump to lift economic sanctions
04:43against Venezuela
04:45and allow access to assets frozen abroad following the destructive earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.
04:50In a letter also addressed to Senate Secretary Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Besant,
04:57the lawmakers stated that these restrictions could hind the relief efforts as well as recovery and reconstruction of the affected
05:03areas.
05:04The petition follows a recent statement by more than 100 economists who also called for easing the sanctions
05:10and facilitating Venezuela's access to international resources to address the emergency.
05:34China expressed its support for Cuba in defending its sovereignty in the face of new economic sanctions imposed by the
05:40United States.
05:41Chinese Foreign Minister's spokesperson Li Yang stated that Beijing is willing to work with the international community
05:46to safeguard fairness and justice in the face of U.S. threats.
05:50He noted that Washington has imposed a comprehensive locate on Cuba for more than 60 years,
05:55undermining the well-being of its people.
05:57In this regard, the diplomat urged countries around the world to take action against United States measures
06:03in order to put an end to the coercion and economic strangulation of the Caribbean nation.
06:13We have stated China's position on this issue on many occasions.
06:17The U.S. has imposed a comprehensive blockade and illegal sanctions on Cuba for more than 60 years,
06:23causing profound suffering to the Cuban people.
06:26More recently, the U.S. has escalated its blockade and sanctions seriously affecting Cuba's toxic livelihood
06:32and drawing widespread concern from the international community.
06:35The U.S. should heed the just calls of the international community,
06:39immediately end its blockade and coercive pressures against Cuba
06:43and stop infringing upon the Cuban people's right to subsistence and development.
06:49China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty,
06:53opposes external interference and stands ready to work with the rest of the international community
06:59to uphold international fairness and justice.
07:05Cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel toured major industrial projects in the Municipality of Havana del Este on Tuesday,
07:11where he highlighted the strategic role of innovation, electric mobility and business transformation
07:16from the country's economic development.
07:19During his visits, he learned about the progress of Cuba's first public charging station for electric vehicles,
07:24a solar-powered initiative that will contribute to the modernization of transportation
07:28and the transition of the national energy mix.
07:31He also visited the Guanaju industrial-based business unit,
07:34where a project is underway to assemble containers designed to strengthen solid waste management in Havana.
07:41In this context, the President reiterated the importance of Cuban companies
07:45repulsively assuming the new authorities granted by the economic transformation,
07:50taking advantage of tools to increase production efficiency
07:53and contribute greater benefits to the country's development.
08:04And now we have a short break coming up.
08:07But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
08:09where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:14We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:36Welcome back to From the South. We continue now in Paraguay,
08:39where a Coordinating Committee of Rural and Urban Workers resume protests in the capital city
08:43after meetings with government authorities that yielded no agreements.
08:47Farmers from various departments across the country
08:49resumed their protests on Wednesday in the downtown area of Asunción
08:53to demand greater access to land, housing and education,
08:56as well as more support for family farming.
08:59This marks the second consecutive day of protests in the capital
09:01and is organized by the Coordinating Committee of Rural and Urban Workers.
09:06The group remains camped out near the Ministry of Urban Planning, Housing and Habitat,
09:11from where it resumed its activities.
09:20In Argentina, year-over-year inflation stood at 33.5% in June,
09:25according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census,
09:29which reported a second consecutive upward change in this indicator.
09:33Compared to May, consumer prices rose 1.9%,
09:36driving mainly by increases in recreation and culture,
09:40as well as in housing, water, electricity and gas.
09:43In contrast, the smallest changes were observed in the categories of communication, clothing and food wear.
09:49Meanwhile, food and non-alcoholic beverages registered a monthly increase of 1.3%.
09:55According to projections compiled by the Argentine Central Bank, inflation could close the year at around 30%,
10:02while price trends continue to be closely monitored by authorities and economic analysts.
10:20The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday a new military operation against port facilities in the Ukrainian cities of
10:26Odessa and Chernomorsk,
10:28which Moscow has identified as facilities used for logistical supply to the Ukrainian armed forces.
10:33According to Russian authorities, the attack's target fueled the pod's port infrastructure through manufacturing facilities
10:39and various ships carrying cargo intended for Kyiv's military efforts.
10:43In this regard, Russian authorities asserted that these actions are part of their strategy to undermine Ukraine's operational capabilities,
10:51amid a conflict that continues to result in clashes and human casualties on both sides of the front line.
11:16The United States Central Command says it's carried out strikes on Iran for 90 minutes on Wednesday morning,
11:21as tensions flared over the critical Strait of Hormuz.
11:24The U.S. struck a Marine-controlled tower in Iran's coastal city of Shabahar,
11:29as the military launched a new round of daytime attacks, marking the second time in less than a week
11:34that the port's control infrastructure has been targeted by U.S. forces.
11:38Local reports confirmed heavy damage with the upper structure of the control tower collapsed,
11:43windows blown out and adjacent port facilities scorched.
11:46The strikes occurred amid a rapid escalation of direct military hostilities between the United States and Iran,
11:52following consecutive nights of exchanged fire.
12:04The Iranian government reported that more than 30 civilians were killed and nearly 260 people were injured
12:10during the attacks carried out by the U.S. in recent days against various regions of the country.
12:15The Iranian authorities confirmed that one of the bombing strikes hit military facilities in the town of Bampur,
12:21where seven members of the Army's ground forces also died.
12:24These events are occurring amid a new escalation of tensions sparked by Washington,
12:28following significant progress on the Memorandum of Understanding just a few weeks ago.
12:44And in this context, United States opposition Democratic Senators blocked the military spending bill
12:49in protest of the international conflict following military operations in Iran.
12:53The funding block covers $1.15 trillion National Defense Authorization Act,
13:00which sets the budget and guidelines for the Department of Defense.
13:05The vote on the bill failed because it did not reach the 60 votes required for approval in the Senate,
13:10which is composed of 100 members.
13:12In this context, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer stated that Senators expressed their concern,
13:18arguing that President Trump started a war without authorization,
13:22a strategy or exit planned,
13:24and that this type of defense budget signals support for a war against Iran.
13:36The Israeli regime continues to violate the ceasefire agreement,
13:40resulting in the death of 16 civilians and injuries to several others in the Gaza Strip over the past 24
13:46hours.
13:47Authorities report multiple attacks in residential areas of the Palestinian enclave,
13:51including Southern Jan Junis, the Mawazi Refuge, Camp West of Gaza City, and the center of the enclave.
13:58The attacks were not only directed at the civilian population,
14:02but also at a police station where at least six police officers were killed
14:07near the Chabalia refugee camp north of Gaza.
14:10To date, Gaza health authorities have reported nearly 73,250 deaths
14:15and more than 173,720 injuries since October 7, 2023.
14:28Here we go now with our special segment on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
14:32Beyond the game, the ball stays pure.
14:34Go ahead Luis, it's a pleasure to share the set with you.
14:38Well, it's also a pleasure to be here once again with you, Laura, and with our audience.
14:42Of course, we continue waiting in the hours previous to the second semifinal of the tournament
14:46that will pit together England and Argentina for what is expected to be a very exciting match.
14:52We'll have more after the break.
15:14Welcome to Beyond the Game, the ball stays pure.
15:16Here, the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final is almost complete.
15:20Spain became the first finalist after a convincing victory over France
15:25and now awaits the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between England and Argentina.
15:29The three Lions are chasing their first World Cup final since 1966,
15:33while Argentina looks to keep its title defence alive.
15:36The winner will face Spain on Sunday with a loser meeting France in the third-place playoff.
15:42England has relied so far on the leadership and goals of Harry Kane and the outstanding form of Jude Bellingham,
15:47who have been responsible for the majority of the three Lions scoring during this tournament.
15:53Argentina, meanwhile, continues to be inspired by Lionel Messi,
15:57while Enzo Fernández and Cody Romero have provided crucial support.
16:07England's and Argentina's journey to the last four has been built on resilience,
16:12overcoming one tough test after another to keep their World Cup dream alive.
16:17England's campaign began without authority as the three Lions stopped Group L
16:21through a blend of attacking flair and timely resilience.
16:23Victories over Panama and Croatia were followed by a dramatic encounter with Ghana,
16:28allowing Thomas Tockel's side to finish first in the group.
16:31Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and a balanced midfield have given England multiple ways to win,
16:36carrying strong momentum into the elimination rounds.
16:41Unlike some of the other semifinalists, England has had to earn every step of the journey.
16:46There's a vibe that determined the Arkongo in the Round of 32
16:49before producing an impressive comeback to eliminate Mexico 3-2 in the Round of 16.
16:53The quarter-final against Norway was another stern termination,
16:57but England once again found the decisive moments in a 2-1 victory,
17:01returning to the World Cup semifinals with confidence growing after every challenge overcome.
17:07The defending champions Argentina navigated Group J with experience and attacking quality,
17:12finishing atop the standings after victories over Jordan and Austria
17:15before sealing first place against Algeria.
17:18Lionel Messi once again set the tone, while Lionel Scaloni's squad showed the composure and efficiency
17:24expected from the reigning world champions as they advanced to the knockout stage on Bidon.
17:30Argentina's route to the last four has been anything but straightforward.
17:33A thrilling 3-2-1 victory over Cape Verde in the Round of 32 was followed by another dramatic 3
17:39-2 win
17:40against Egypt in the Round of 16.
17:42The quarter-final brought perhaps their toughest challenge yet,
17:45but the Albi Celeste defeated Switzerland 3-1 to secure a return to the semifinals.
17:50Tested repeatedly under pressure, Argentina has relied on championship experience
17:54and the enduring brilliance of Messi to keep its title defense alive.
18:00And Argentina supporters filled the streets of Atlanta during the flag-waving event
18:04ahead of the World Cup semifinal match against England.
18:07Some 10,000 Scaloneta fans sang and went wild for Argentina's sky blue and white colors,
18:13ahead of the heavily awaited fixture many have described as the final before the final.
18:17Unlike the one held the day before the nail-biting Round of 16 match against Egypt,
18:22Tuesday's gathering did not take place in Piedmont Park,
18:26but rather at Underground at Shopping and Entertainment District
18:29located just a few blocks from the stadium where the match will be played this Wednesday
18:33at 3pm in Piedmont Park, but rather at Underground at Shopping and Entertainment District
18:38located just a few blocks from the stadium where the match will be played this Wednesday
18:43at 3pm Coracas time.
18:45During the celebration there was a minute of silence for France
18:48and the traditional chant, anyone who doesn't jump is English.
18:52The upcoming match renews one of international football's most storied rivalries
18:57with the winner moving one step closer to World Cup immortality.
19:04It's not just a match, it's a final.
19:06Yes, it's the final for us. It's Argentina vs. England. It's the final, the big match.
19:12The Malvinas are Argentinian.
19:13We've got faith. We've got faith. I can't predict the result, but we're confident we'll win.
19:19I think it's going to be a really exciting, really beautiful match.
19:23They're two great teams. And, well, the hope is that Argentina always plays with an advantage,
19:28which is the number 10. So that could be the deciding factor.
19:34We've chosen to believe, just as the players told us, just as the coach told us.
19:38So, one step at a time, let's focus on tomorrow's match. Hopefully we'll win.
19:42And then we'll face Spain.
19:46We expect to win, obviously. Of course.
19:48We're going for everything. We want to win, and we want to make it to the finals.
19:53We have Messi, we have Enzo Fernandez, we have Dailafico, we have Paredes.
19:57We have a whole team, and they just have one player.
20:00I was so surprised about France losing, but I feel like England can really give us a bit of a
20:06workout,
20:07but I expect a lot from Argentina, and I hope we win.
20:11You can never count Argentina out. It's always drama, suspense. It's a very good story.
20:20Argentina and England meet again 40 years of the legendary match play at the Aztec Stadium
20:25where Diego Maradona responded to England's crimes with his football.
20:29Our team shows us how that match of the century is remembered.
20:34Avenged for the country that, 44 years ago, suffered the loss of its young people
20:39at the hands of British imperialism.
20:42When the Malvinas War began, someone foresaw his thirst for justice.
20:46I believe that if all these people, and all of us, were asked to give our lives, we would certainly
20:51do so.
20:52Residents living near the Azteca Stadium recall seeing Diego Maradona
20:56delivered divine justice against England on a football pitch.
21:03We've always stood in solidarity with social justice.
21:08First, regarding the attempt to strip Argentina of the Malvinas Islands.
21:13El Pelusa was always one of a kind. And what makes us happiest is that they won the championship.
21:21At the 1986 World Cup, Argentina was emerging from a dictatorship that had led the country
21:27into the absurdity of a preventable war against the illegal occupier of the Malvinas Islands.
21:32Today, it also faces contradictions with a government that supports imperialist plunder of its national territory.
21:43Historically speaking, I identify most with Churchill, Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.
21:51Margaret Thatcher is responsible for the sinking of the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano,
21:56which had more than 300 crew members on board.
22:00In a Latin America where resources and sovereignty are being plundered or are under threat,
22:05the Malvinas issue resonates from Patagonia to the Rio Bravo.
22:12The Spanish stole a lot from us here. Ships full of gold. They took everything they could.
22:21It's the same thing. I compare it from that perspective.
22:24It's almost the same as what happened to Argentina with the British.
22:29Residents recall that in 1986, the post-war tension was palpable in the area around the Azteca Stadium.
22:37I was already working here at the hotel.
22:41And I saw the tension that was going to arise between the English and the Argentines
22:46because of the fight that had broken out.
22:49The way those wretched Englishmen had robbed Argentinians of their Malvinas Islands.
22:56The English were really pissed off because the Argentines had beaten them up.
23:01And they were already looking to start a fight. So they had to call the police.
23:07For the first time, Lionel Messi will face England.
23:12Just like in Mexico 86, the World Cup stirs up Argentina's thirst for sovereignty,
23:17with the wounds from England's theft of the Malvinas still fresh.
23:23This is all for this edition of Beyond the Game, the ball stays pure.
23:26We are roughly two hours away from this semifinal game starting Argentina versus England.
23:32What a match that promises to be.
23:35But for now, we go back to you, Loli.
23:36Thank you so much, Luigi. We look forward for the results of these upcoming games.
23:42And with this information, we have come to the end of the Sims Brief.
23:45Remember, you can find this and many other stories on our website at www.telesuryenglish.net.
