00:00And moving on to the United States, a high-stakes legal battle of their overvoting rights is unfolding in Boston.
00:06The League of Women Voters is asking a federal court to block a White House executive order him
00:11that restricting mail-in ballots ahead of the uncommon midterm elections.
00:16For the details from the outside of the courthouse, we go to our correspondent, Danel Wright.
00:24I'm outside the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston, where the League of Women Voters are asking a federal court this
00:31morning
00:31to block a Trump executive order that would limit mail-in voting, requiring states to provide the Postal Service with
00:39lists of mail-in voters
00:40and refuse to transmit ballots from voters who are not on those lists.
00:45The court has already warned that disenfranchisement in the upcoming election is, quote,
00:50plausibly likely and imminent if the order takes effect.
00:54And this is as the administration is aggressively moving to suppress voting.
00:59With less than three months before the midterm elections,
01:02Trump has been heavily pressuring Congress to pass his Save America Act,
01:07which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and photo IDs to cast a ballot, including by mail.
01:14Trump says there's rampant cheating in elections and non-citizens are voting.
01:18But non-citizen voting in federal elections is already illegal,
01:21and election officials and independent researchers have repeatedly found no evidence of widespread fraud.
01:28Trump has nevertheless made changing voting rules a major political priority ahead of November.
01:35He said that the Save America Act would, quote,
01:37guarantee the midterms, and this week demanded that senators remain in Washington until they pass it.
01:43The ruling here could help determine how far Trump can go in changing the rules before November.
01:49And with control of Congress at stake, the fight over voting access is also a fight over who will hold
01:56power.
