00:00In Venezuela, the President Nicolás Maduro rejected the regime change and coup d'etats that have been promoted by the CIA.
00:18Indigenous organizations and the Ecuadorian government reached an agreement to end demonstrations in the northern province of Imbabura.
00:34And Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced Western governments for disrupting the global energy architecture with pressure measures.
00:43Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belén de los Santos. I'm from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
00:53From the South.
01:23Venezuela is not alone in opposing the attacks and threats used by the government of the United States to seize sovereign resources.
01:32Additionally, he asserted that xenophobic statements comparing Venezuelans to criminal groups like the Tren de Aragua, which he pointed out were exterminated by the national police, must cease.
01:43In this regard, the Venezuelan president reiterated that the best way to combat these threats and attacks is unity.
01:53No to regime change that reminds us so much of the failed eternal wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and the list goes on.
02:08No to coups d'etat by the CIA, that remind us so much of the 30,000 people disappeared by the CIA, in the coups d'etat against Argentina, Pinochet's coup d'etat,
02:28and the 5,000 young people murdered and disappeared in coup d'etat after coup d'etat in Latin America.
02:40Latin America doesn't want them, doesn't need them.
02:44Also in this context, the head of state, Nicolas Maduro, emphasized that U.S. imperialism ignores historical reality and also underestimates the strength of national identities, such as that of the Venezuelan people.
03:01And why do I say this?
03:06Because we must remember that humanity has always been diverse in its roots, trajectory, and history.
03:13It has never had a single language, a single way of thinking, a single culture, or a single political system.
03:21It has never been under any empire in the past, so if the American empire, with its supremacist and Nazi ideology,
03:33believes that it is going to unify us all into a single way of thinking, a single order, a single command,
03:40it is out of step with the times, because we carry a very strong flag.
03:45Our national flag, the yellow, blue, and red one that no one gave us, no one painted for us.
03:57Miranda brought it and Bolivar carried it, victorious in the liberating banners to Ayacucho, to Hunin.
04:04And I am not inventing a fable. It is lived history. It is real history.
04:09Meanwhile, authorities in Trinidad and Tobago have reported that some of the six people executed extrajudicially
04:19in a recent U.S. attack on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea may be nationals.
04:25In this regard, the Trinitarian police is investigating the possible death of two citizens
04:31in the strike confirmed by Washington on October 14th.
04:34Pending the confirmation, it is presumed that the victims could be Chad Joseph and Samaru fishermen
04:41from the village of Las Cuevas.
04:43The alert about the presence of these fishermen on the vessel came from Chad Joseph's mother
04:49and other members of the community who reiterated that the workers were not engaged in any criminal activity.
04:56And the organization, the International Organization for Migration, confirmed that Haiti reached the highest level
05:08of displaced people in its history, with more than 1.4 million people who have fled their homes
05:15forced by violence in 2025.
05:18According to the IOM report, the growing presence of criminal groups and the multiple crises facing the population
05:25in a context of weakening institutions are exacerbating the humanitarian emergency in the country.
05:33Also, the organization confirmed that the crisis has spread beyond the capital.
05:37In this regard, although the largest number of displaced is registered in Port-au-Prince,
05:43the Central and Artiboni departments also show a growing flow of people fleeing criminal brutality.
05:51With this report, the IOM reiterates its call to the international community to increase funding and access
05:58to ensure the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid.
06:06Meanwhile, in the United States, a federal judge in California has temporarily blocked the mass layoffs of the public sector
06:13that were ordered by President Donald Trump amid a government shutdown that is now entering its third week.
06:20The ruling issued by Judge Susan Ilston cited concerns over due process and the political motivations behind the dismissals,
06:28stating that such actions cannot be permitted in a nation governed by laws.
06:34The decision halts over 4,000 termination notices that had already been issued by the Office of Management and Budget.
06:41The Trump administration had framed the layoffs as a necessary measure to reduce government spending during the shutdown,
06:48but critics argue the move targeted agencies and employees seen as politically adversarial.
06:56Labor unions and civil right groups swiftly challenged the order, calling it an abuse of executive power.

07:16Welcome back to From the South.
07:35We continue with more information after days of intense protests sparked by President Daniel Noboa's decision
07:41to eliminate fuel subsidies, indigenous organizations and the Ecuadorian government reached an agreement
07:48to end demonstrations in the northern province of Imbabura.
07:52According to Ecuador's largest indigenous federation, three people were killed by armed forces during the national rallies,
07:59and more than 100 have been injured.
08:02The resolution was reached during a high-level meeting in Otavalo,
08:06where Interior Minister John Ringberg committed to releasing detained protesters
08:11and also forming territorial technical committees to address community demands.
08:16The indigenous leaders emphasized their right to resist and rejected the criminalization of the movement,
08:22framing the protest as a defense of collective dignity.
08:26The strike officially ended with a promise to reopen roads and restore supplies,
08:30though tensions remain over the broader impact of these subsidy cuts on vulnerable populations.
08:44We have proposed the immediate establishment of technical committees in the territories of our people and nationalities.
08:52There, we can work to address the issues and needs facing our peoples.
08:56Some of our colleagues are in prison, and we have requested their release, their immediate release.
09:11Regarding this matter, the national government has promised that our colleagues will be released first.
09:18We are not terrorists, lazy people, or kidnappers.
09:29We are a united people who have always fought for our rights,
09:32and our unity and collectivity must always support these rights.
09:35And we go now to Peru, because on Thursday, the first fatal fatality was reported
09:44as a result of the repression of protests against the government of President JosĂ© JairĂ.
09:50The victim was identified as a 32-year-old street artist, Eduardo Ruiz,
09:54who was shot dead in the chest by the police.
09:57The incident occurred during a massive march organized by various social, civil, and political groups,
10:02one of the largest recorded in recent years in the country, which was harshly repressed.
10:08According to information provided by the Ombudsman's office, in addition to this casualty,
10:15there are nearly 100 injured people and numerous arrests that have also been confirmed.
10:22The unrest underscores the deep public discontent with Peru's political establishment,
10:27as protesters accused Congress of shielding JairĂ from accountability for sexual assault allegations, among others.
10:42And the National Electoral Council of Honduras approved the participation of 68 national and international organizations
10:49as official observers for the general elections that are coming up on November 30th.
10:54According to its president, Anahol, a total of 43 national and 25 international missions were certified.
11:02These missions aim to fully monitor the event and reaffirm the transparency of the Central American nation's democratic process.
11:10More than 6.5 million Honduras are called to vote in this election,
11:14in which they will elect a new president, three presidential designees, 298 mayors,
11:21128 members of the National Congress, and 20 members of the Central American Parliament.
11:32We stay in Honduras as President Xiomara Castro expressed her gratitude to the Cuban government
11:38for its continued support in health care matters over the years.
11:41On Wednesday, during a visit to an ophthalmology clinic built by her government in San Pedro Sula,
11:48Castro emphasized the Honduran people's appreciation for the support of its Cuban brothers and sisters in the medical assistance area.
11:56The implementation of the clinic project, the fifth of its kind in the country,
12:00is part of the Operation Miracle Program launched by Cuba,
12:05which includes the presence of doctors and specialists from the Antillian Island.
12:10This initiative was provided over 54,000 consultations, 6,500 surgeries,
12:19and 10,000 free pair of glasses to vulnerable populations.
12:24In other news, El Salvador's ruling party, New Ideas,
12:34has re-elected Raquel Caballero de Guevara as human rights general attorney,
12:39despite the criticism from national and international organizations.
12:43It will be Caballero's third term as the head of the institution,
12:47despite the fact that in previous terms she was fined for ethical violations
12:53and has been criticized for her silence in the face of state abuses,
12:58including cases of arbitrary detentions and torture.
13:01In response to her nomination, Salvador's attorneys general assured that she had not received any reports of tortures in prisons,
13:10even though social and international organizations have refuted the statements
13:14with evidence of arbitrary detentions, disappearances, and deaths in custody.
13:23On Wednesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that the death toll from last week's heavy rains had risen to 66.
13:43The president confirmed that 75 people were still missing,
13:46while authorities continue to provide support to the most affected states,
13:50including Veracruz, Puebla, and Hidalgo.
13:53Sheinbaum emphasized that the figure of people not located has decreased thanks to coordination with state authorities,
14:01and for his part, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jesus Esteva,
14:06reported a total of 376 damages to infrastructure, including 54 damaged bridges.
14:13In addition, currently, more than 5,400 workers and 681 pieces of machinery are mobilized to respond to the emergency.

14:45Welcome back to From the South.
15:05We continue with more information.
15:06On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Treaty
15:13signed between Caracas and Moscow.
15:15The document, signed in May during the visit of President Nicolas Maduro, states that both nations
15:23agree to develop and strengthen multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation.
15:29Moreover, the agreement proposes the expansion of bilateral partnership in the fields of trade,
15:34economy, investment, science, technology, and culture.
15:38In addition, key strategic objectives include financial autonomy and military-technical cooperation.
15:45Also in Russia, at the 8th Russian Energy Week International Forum,
15:56President Vladimir Putin denounced Western governments for disrupting the global energy architecture
16:01with its actions and pressure measures.
16:05During his keynote address, the Russian head of state emphasized that the global energy sector
16:10is undergoing a restructuring of relationships.
16:14In this regard, he stressed this is due to the nature of constant changes in global needs
16:20that have allowed the emergence of new centers of economic development.
16:25Moreover, Putin signaled how European companies have proven to be unreliable as partners
16:30as European Union countries continue applying pressure measures that have negatively impacted
16:36their own energy industries.
16:38Many European countries, for example, have refused to purchase Russian energy products
16:49under political pressure.
16:51I have already noted the consequences of such a refusal for Western countries themselves
16:56and their economic production potential.
16:58We are seeing the consequences of these actions in the European Union,
17:02including a decline in industrial turnover, rising prices due to more expensive overseas oil and gas,
17:09and a decline in the competitiveness of European goods and the economy as a whole.
17:13And President Putin also pointed out that despite competition, which he considers to be unfair against Russia,
17:25his country has remained one of the main oil producers.
17:31Russia maintains its position as a leading oil producer, despite the use of unfair competition mechanisms against us.
17:39We account for approximately 10% of global production,
17:43and expect that by the end of the year, our country will produce 510 million tons of oil.
17:50This is approximately 1% lower than last year.
17:53However, I would like to draw your attention, dear colleagues,
17:57to the fact that this is happening in accordance with the agreements under the OPEC plus deal.
18:02In other words, this is a voluntary reduction.
18:05And in Beijing, an important international meeting concluded aimed at accelerating progress towards gender equality
18:15and promoting inclusive policies to strengthen the role of women in society and the economy.
18:20Our correspondent in the Chinese capital, Bruno Falsi, with the details.
18:25For two days, the Global Leaders' Summit on Women, organized by China and UN Women,
18:31brought together leaders from over 100 countries and more than 300 international representatives,
18:38including heads of state.
18:41The event commemorates 30 years since the Beijing Conference,
18:45where significant progress in women's rights has been achieved.
18:50In 1995, I think a major contribution for me to get here was some of the principles that the conference established.
19:0430 years, post-Peching, declaration and platform of action was adopted by that very conference,
19:12which gave us that blueprint, which today is the best ever for women's emancipation and empowerment.
19:21Current demands for women highlighted greater political participation,
19:26equal opportunities and a more inclusive ecosystem that allows for comprehensive development.
19:33Looking forward to partnerships, to opportunities that would help us in scaling women's economic empowerment,
19:44women's advancement, children's protection mechanisms and also protection of the vulnerable.
19:50So I think it's the same with everyone. We're looking forward to opportunities.
19:53And we expect her to do more for women, to change their ecosystem,
19:58so that laws which don't confide to women's equality can be changed.
20:05We want more development for agricultural, for the agriculture in our country,
20:11because most of women are involved with the agriculture.
20:16Delegates from Latin America and other regions emphasized that the summit also served as a platform
20:23to showcase national achievements, share experience, strength international cooperation
20:30and create new opportunities for women.
20:33Excellencies, fellow heads of states,
20:36We have the mission to showcase all of our different achievements we have from our country
20:42and also to have this interchange of ideas and experiences between our countries
20:49to strengthen also our cooperation and to create more opportunities for women.
20:55With the conclusion of this summit, Beijing reaffirmed itself as a global center of attention
21:01in the fight for gender equality.
21:03The participants' message was clear.
21:06International cooperation and political commitment are essential to advance gender equality
21:13and the comprehensive development of women.
21:16Bruno Fauci, from Beijing, China, for Telesur.
21:33We go now to Gaza as the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has accused Israel of breaching the ceasefire
21:45by killing at least 24 people since Friday.
21:49Precisely, a senior resistance leader reported shootings carried out by Zionist military forces
21:55in several areas of the Palestinian enclave despite the ongoing ceasefire.
22:00These attacks, which have left at least 24 people dead and several wounded,
22:05draw attention to the weakness of the Tel Aviv regime's intention to comply with the requirements of the agreed deal.
22:13In this regard, Hamas also informed they had given ceasefire mediators a list of violations committed by Israel.
22:21Meanwhile, Gaza authorities denounced the detection of signs of abuse and torture
22:33on at least 45 Palestinian bodies that were returned by the genocidal Israeli state.
22:39The Gaza Ministry of Health confirmed that forensic doctors are preparing a detailed report
22:46on the physical abuse inflicted on the bodies returned by Israel.
22:50The authorities announced that many bodies show signs of torture and mutilation,
22:56such as marks from being run over by tank trucks.
23:00In addition, medical sources indicated that those kidnapped by the genocidal occupier
23:05may have been executed in the field as some of the victims were blindfolded and handcuffed.
23:11And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
