00:00Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro joined the communal youth in defense of the peace and the country's sovereignty.
00:20The Mexican government has launched an offensive against at least 12 drug cartels operating in the state of Michoacán in the western part of the country.
00:30And China warned the United States government over its military support to Taiwan, emphasizing it violates its sovereignty and security interests.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen de los Santos and from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba, we begin with the news.
01:00Music
01:00We were saying it at the beginning, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro joined the communal youth in a march in defense of peace and the country's sovereignty.
01:13The president walked alongside thousands of young people who set out from the emblematic Plaza Sucre in Katia in the west of the capital.
01:23The presence of the head of state seeks to reinforce the government's commitment to the new generations and their leading role in the construction of Bolivarian socialism.
01:33It is a direct endorsement of the grassroots organizations represented by the communities.
01:40This march served as an act of support for the national popular consultation that is scheduled for November 23rd.
01:48On this election day, the organized communities themselves will select, through direct vote, the priority projects to be implemented in their local communities.
01:58So I call on you to join this popular, constituent process of youth to re-found a giant, powerful, unprecedented confederation of all Venezuelan youth, democratic.
02:15Grassroots confederation of all Venezuelan youth, is one of the most beautiful tasks we can set ourselves, and that youth have power in universities, high schools,
02:31the territory, the community, where they work, and that youth have training, leadership, organization, and that youth look to the future for the great battles.
03:01And in Venezuela, entrepreneurs have become the driving force of the productive economy, boosting creativity as one of the nation's main resources.
03:17Our correspondent, Andrea Romero, shows us a business model that is revolutionizing bakeries. Let's see.
03:22This project was created from its founders' vision to adapt successful models from other countries to support small entrepreneurs who don't have a physical space to produce.
03:38A frozen bread project is an idea that was born after traveling and getting to know the culture abroad, where they work with frozen bread.
03:45So I thought, why don't we introduce a project for entrepreneurs who can't have a physical space to make their bread?
04:00We came up with this idea to help those wanting to start a business, selling them frozen bread, French bread, canilla, campesino, sweet bread.
04:07We're making croissants, too. We pack croissants in trays of six so they can get started with chocolate croissants, butter croissants.
04:19We also have frozen tecuenos and pasta.
04:25The production process starts with kneading.
04:30The key is the quality of the ingredients and the right technique to make sure that once thawed and baked,
04:35the bread keeps its traditional texture and flavor.
04:42Right now, we're seeing the machine, the process of the savory bread dough.
04:46From this same dough, we'll make campesino, canilla, and French bread.
04:53Once the dough is ready, another set of steps begins.
04:56These require precision and experience, and this is where baking artistry, like that of Jesus Salorzano, becomes clear.
05:03He will share details.
05:06After it comes out of the burra, which is the kneading machine, burra is what we typically call it.
05:11The dough is placed on the table, passed through the rolling machine about 10 to 12 times, usually for savory bread.
05:16Once that's done, we weigh out three kilos, pass it through the divider, which is this machine, then it's rolled, and after rolling, we make cookie.
05:23Cookie means flattening the dough, weighing it, flattening it, and passing it through the saccapuntas, so it comes out rolled.
05:29It goes down, and the process ends on the tray with the bread.
05:36The bread, once shaved and still raw, is ready to go through the freezing process.
05:40Here we have the campesino bread, which is still raw.
05:51We have it raw here.
05:52It's the right size to go to the freezer.
05:57Freezing ensures the bread's qualities are perfectly preserved until it reaches the entrepreneur's oven.
06:04Show you our frozen bread.
06:06How long does the bread last here?
06:08Frozen, 24 hours.
06:10Finally, the frozen product goes to the packaging phase.
06:16After it's cooled, it's packaged in its own bag.
06:19The French bread goes in this little bag, 10 French breads in each.
06:27The canillas are grouped by four, and the campesinos, just two pieces in each bag.
06:32Everything that is packaged, no matter if it's baked or frozen, everything is packaged, and it's all done here.
06:46More than 10 entrepreneurs from the area are now part of the supply chain for this business.
06:51We move now to other topics.
06:53In Cuba, President Miguel DĂaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the humanitarian aid provided by the Venezuelan government
07:00and confirmed that both countries have begun a joint assessment to restore the roads' infrastructures in Santiago de Cuba,
07:07one of the provinces most affected by the recent passage of Hurricane Melissa.
07:12During the television program, La Mesa Redonda, the president of Cuba, Miguel DĂaz-Canel,
07:18reported that reconstruction after the hurricane will focus on the southern coast of the province of Santiago de Cuba.
07:26The head of state noted that teams of specialists from Cuba and Venezuela conducted the technical assessments in the field.
07:33This joint assessment was key to identifying the areas most severely affected and establishing priorities for action.
07:41The authorities will give priority to the most critical areas in order to speed up the recovery and return to normality for the population.
07:50And Aylan, I also want to highlight the meeting I had before joining the round table
08:03and the meeting with the Provincial Defense Council that we experienced,
08:07which was sharing with a team of constructors from the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
08:14which was sent by our brother President Maduro led by a deputy minister,
08:17and which has worked together with our troops and the Ministry of Construction and Transportation to conduct a survey of the state of the roads.
08:26An assessment of the state of the roads and work is already underway on projects to recover,
08:32with the joint participation of Venezuelans and Cubans.
08:39A group of damaged areas here in Santiago de Cuba.
08:43And that is where the true expression of the brotherhood and solidarity of two revolutions lies.
08:49A country under the threat of invasion does not forget its brothers, and here it is also collaborating.
08:56I believe that from here we must be grateful for the continuous and timely solidarity of the brotherly people of Venezuela
09:04and also of its leadership, in particular our brother President Nicolas Maduro.
09:09Now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,

09:22We'll be right back. Stay with us.
09:23Welcome back to From the South. We continue with more information.
09:45The Mexican government has launched an offensive against at least 12 drug cartels operating in the state of Michoacán
09:52in the western part of the country.
09:54The North American nation has reaffirmed that this fight within its territory is a national matter.
10:01According to the authorities in charge, the operation will focus on a dozen cartels,
10:06although it could be expanded if other criminal groups are identified.
10:10More than 3,000 agents have been deployed for the operation, according to Secretary of Security Omar GarcĂa Harfuch.
10:19It is important to highlight that the state, in the past month, the mayor Carlos Manso
10:25and the leader of citrus producers Bernardo Bravo were murdered.
10:29Ecuador witnessed the closing of campaigns on Thursday ahead of the popular consultation and referendum.
10:45While both positions were present, the largest mobilizations came from the bloc promoting the no vote,
10:52which achieved a national coordination with marches and events in several cities across the country.
10:58Among the participants were the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador,
11:03Unidad Popular and various federations, who stated that the defense of labor, educational,
11:09environmental and social security rights is the main reason they support this stance.
11:14Meanwhile, President Daniel Novoa held his final campaign events for the Yes Vote in Guayaquil and Machala,
11:22with more moderate gatherings and limited attendance.
11:34In this regard, the strengthening and union organization movement of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas
11:40warned that with next Sunday's consultative process, the Ecuadorian president is not proposing a clear constitutional reform.
11:48The organization stated that behind this consultation there is an attempt to dismantle the few rights workers still have in the country
11:57and that it is not about improving labor conditions, but increasing corporate profits.
12:02Furthermore, the consultation promoted by Novoa also proposes eliminating the constitutional prohibition in place since 2008
12:11that prevents the establishment of foreign military bases or military facilities on Ecuadorian territory.
12:18Moving on to other topics, two specially trained detector dogs in Western Australia are helping scientists identify a deadly plant disease far more quickly than traditional methods.
12:47In the forests of Western Australia, two English springer spaniels are being deployed to track a disease that has destroyed vast areas of native bushland.
13:00Kelly and Milo, both 14 months old, are the first detector dogs permanently based in the state to locate dieback in the field.
13:09Dieback is caused mainly by phytophthora cinnamomy, which is a soil-borne water mold that attacks plant roots, preventing them from taking up water and nutrients.
13:22Once established, it can spread through soil, water movement, vehicles, shoes and animals, and entire ecosystems can collapse.
13:31Dieback has been present in Australia for more than 50 years, and environmental scientists describe it as one of the nation's most destructive threats to biodiversity.
13:44Parts of the dieback management puzzle that have been really challenging up to now, and the dogs can come and fill in that puzzle piece to help us get a better strategy overall.
13:57Until now, detecting dieback has relied on taking soil samples and sending them to a laboratory, a process that can take weeks.
14:07The disease is harder to identify in drought conditions when plants may show stress for unrelated reasons.
14:13The dogs, however, are trained to detect the scent of the pathogen, even when there are no visible symptoms.
14:20We hope that this program will accelerate the identification of dieback samples, making it cheaper and more accessible and easier to rapidly clear areas.
14:36So we've had a lot of drought, making it really hard to read those landscapes, and the dogs are better able to read those landscapes, and they can also do it immediately in the field.
14:44Aerial monitoring and laboratory testing will still be used, but the dogs allow conservation teams to pinpoint infected sites quickly, helping land managers fence off areas, divert tracks, or install hygiene stations before the pathogen spreads further.
15:05The department of biodiversity, conservation and attractions has secured 1.3 million Australian dollars from the Commonwealth saving native species program, to support the project.
15:17Conservationists hope the dogs will play an important role in efforts to slow the diseases advance and protect vulnerable ecosystems across the state.

15:56Welcome back to From the South.
16:14In the United States, President Donald Trump's approval rating has reached its lowest point of his second term.
16:21According to the latest polls, 58% disapprove of the government's actions.
16:26The president's alarming numbers are due to the current government shutdown that finally ended a few days ago, anti-immigrant policies, and the increase in segregation and exclusion rhetoric in his campaign.
16:39According to data provided by APNORC, Ipsos and Reuters polls, even Republican support for the president has declined in the last week, falling from 81% to 68%.
16:54Among Democrats, rejection has increased, as could be seen in the recent election.
17:00Meanwhile, on Friday, China warned the United States government over its military support to Taiwan, emphasizing it seriously violates Beijing's sovereignty and security interests.
17:16Statements up by foreign ministry spokesman Lin Yang addressed Washington's recent agreement with the regional government of Taiwan to sell military parts and components.
17:26According to the Western nation, the plans are to complete the arms sales to the island in two weeks.
17:32In this scenario, the Chinese diplomat pointed out that Taiwan is fundamental to China's interests and constitutes the first inviolable red line in relations with the US.
17:43Moreover, the diplomat confirmed that the government will take all necessary measures to firmly defend national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
17:53The United States arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one-China principle, and the three Sino-US joint communiques seriously infringe upon China's sovereignty and security interests,
18:11seriously violate international law, and send a seriously wrong signal to the Taiwan independence separatist forces.
18:17China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed to this.
18:24In Italy's public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into nationals who traveled to Sarajevo to participate in sniper tariffs during the Bosnian Serb Army's siege that took place between 1992 and 1996.
18:41The case was opened following a complaint filed by writer Ezio Cavaseni in collaboration with lawyers Nicola Brigida and former judge Guido Salvini.
18:52The complaint for murder aggravated by cruelty and despicable motives alleges that Italian millionaires traveled to Sarajevo on weekends to participate in human hunting.
19:04According to testimonies, there was a fee that hunters had to pay each week to members of the Spragasca army to shoot passerbys.
19:14In this regard, on Tuesday, the Bosnian consul in Milan, Daktum Konkic, said that his government was fully cooperating with the investigation.
19:25We're moving now to Palestine.
19:51The Israeli genocide against Gaza has left over 6,000 amputees, nearly 2,000 of them children.
19:58More information on this, the Gaza Ministry of Health confirmed on Friday that since 2023 they have carried out over 6,000 amputations, 25% of which were pediatric patients and 12.1% were women.
20:13The physical and emotional suffering from these medical procedures is exacerbated in Gaza because many surgeries were performed without anesthesia due to the blockade imposed by Israel on humanitarian aid.
20:27In addition, patients do not receive follow-up therapeutic care.
20:32In this regard, health authorities are calling for these victims to receive prosthetics, medications, and vital psychological support, especially for child patients.
20:42Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Israeli army killed two 15-year-old Palestinian teenagers near the West Bank city of Hebron on the outskirts of the Karamei Sur settlement.
21:01The Palestinian government's General Civil Affairs Authority identified the young men as Bilal Baha, Alil Barhan, and Muhammad Mahu Abu Ayyash.
21:10In a statement, authorities denounced the retention of their bodies and said that they had died from bullets fired by the occupation near Beit Umar.
21:20The Israeli genocidal regime defending the action stated that its military ambushed them to eliminate two terrorists who were on their way to allegedly perpetrate an attack without proving additional details about the identity of the deceased.
21:37The resistance movement Hamas confirmed that the attack on children in the West Bank constitutes an atrocious crime perpetrated by a terrorist government.
21:50In Switzerland, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep concern over the increase in violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers against the Palestinian population in the occupied West Bank.
22:08In an official statement, the Swiss authorities condemned acts of vandalism, including the burning of Palestinian properties and demanded an immediate end to this violence, as well as a halt to the expansion of illegal settlements.
22:23Furthermore, they urged Israel to comply with its obligations under international law to preserve the prospects of a two-state solution that ensures peace and security in the region.
