00:00Court of Appeal President Abu Bakar Jais has been appointed Acting Chief Judge of Malaya
00:06following the vacancy created by the retirement of Hasna Hashim last week.
00:12In a letter dated November 14, Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Saleh
00:16stated that Abu Bakar will perform the duties and functions of the office
00:21until the position is permanently filled.
00:23Wan Ahmad Farid made the appointment in accordance with Section 9 of Section 3A
00:30of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964, which states that a federal court judge
00:34may exercise the duties of the CJM in the event of a vacancy.
00:40Abu Bakar is a federal court judge and the Court of Appeal President,
00:45the second highest administrative position in the judicial hierarchy.
00:48Hasna, who briefly served as Acting Chief Justice from July 3rd to August 27th,
00:55held the CJM post for a year.
