00:00Storm Claudia is making its way across England and Wales at the moment, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
00:06Now, it's worth bearing in mind the actual low-pressure system is staying well to the southwest of us,
00:11but it's driving plenty of wet weather and leading to those strengthening winds as well.
00:16The heaviest rain, the strongest winds will be across much of England and Wales.
00:21It's across particularly parts of South Wales and across the Midlands and into East Anglia,
00:26where we're going to see the highest rainfall totals building up as we go through this afternoon and into the evening.
00:31And it's across parts of northwest Wales and northwest England where we're going to see the strongest gusts, 60, 70 miles per hour in some places.
00:38But nonetheless, across much of England and Wales, it is looking wet and windy.
00:41A different story there across northern Ireland and much of Scotland.
00:45Brighter here, some sunny breaks and just a few showers piling through on those north-northeasterly winds here.
00:51A chilly feel for sure. Further south, temperatures a fair few degrees higher, especially towards far southern counties,
00:58where things should brighten up a little bit as we go through the afternoon.
01:02But if you're stuck under the cloud, the rain, the strong winds, well, it's going to feel pretty unpleasant nonetheless.
01:07That rain is going to edge a little bit further northwards as we go through this evening,
01:11so turning a bit wet across northern Ireland, the far north of England as well.
01:15But it doesn't make its progress too far northwards before it breaks up, starts to ease.
01:20And so the rain will be starting to become less intense as we go through later today, overnight and into tomorrow.
01:27Some clearer spells towards the south.
01:29But with this, I'm expecting some murkiness, so some low clouds, some mists, some fog across southern counties.
01:35Meanwhile, clearer air across parts of Scotland.
01:38But similar to last night, it is going to be a bit chilly, perhaps not quite as chilly.
01:41But nonetheless, temperatures in rural spots falling a couple of degrees below freezing.
01:46So a touch of frost possible here, milder elsewhere, with temperatures mid to high single figures,
01:51maybe even double digits in a few towns and cities.
01:54A bit of a cloudy, damp start then for much of England, Wales, Northern Ireland through tomorrow.
02:00Some murkiness, like I say, across southern counties.
02:02Things clearing a little bit.
02:04The rain's not going to be especially heavy for most of us,
02:07and it should break up and clear in either way as we go through the day.
02:10Just watch out for some, perhaps, heavier showers across parts of the southwest.
02:14Brighter skies across parts of northern, western, maybe central parts of Scotland.
02:20And here, though, we still have some chilly air across us.
02:23And so although we'll have the best of the sunshine, we also have the lowest temperatures.
02:27Meanwhile, under the cloud, it's not going to feel particularly warm,
02:30despite the fact that temperatures are still a few degrees, a couple of degrees perhaps,
02:34around or a little bit above average for the time of year towards the south.
02:38Now, as we go into the latter part of the weekend,
02:42we are going to see high pressure currently around Greenland plunging its way southwards.
02:47And this will be the driving force for the cold Arctic air
02:50to make its way southwards across the whole of the country.
02:53And so that means our temperatures are going to drop.
02:55Yes, it is going to be largely dry, but our temperatures are going to drop.
02:59So definitely turning chillier as we go into next week.
