00:00We just received a call from dispatch of, uh, shocks fired.
00:14Why would you just dump a deer that you shot and gutted?
00:17This guy left his deer tag attached to the antlers.
00:20It's like leaving your driver's license at a crime scene.
00:23We are here to capture some California babyloners sheep.
00:26Go get him!
00:28It's really exciting to move animals and reestablish populations.
00:32I completely sympathize with your hunting partner passing.
00:36We still have a job to do.
00:37Who's gone?
00:38Whose is it?
00:39Yours or yours?
00:41Nevada, a land of extremes.
00:48From the strip to the summits, it's wild country, home to more than 900 species and a way of
00:56life worth protecting.
00:58Preserved for the people and the wildlife that call it home.
01:02One team stands guard.
01:06This is Nevada Wild.
01:09You know, I want to welcome everybody here today.
01:25You know, it's been a lot of years since this started and each and every one of you here,
01:30you know, you're all part of this.
01:31I was telling my grandson today, I said, you're going to be able to tell your grandkids what
01:36you helped out with up here to bring all this back.
01:39With that, I better go ahead and say a prayer here for these sheep.
01:43All right, my name is Mike Cox, statewide big horn sheep, staff biologist.
01:58Tomorrow, we're going to capture some California big horn sheep off the sheep creek range.
02:04We're looking at 20 to 25 animals, majority of them will be using lambs.
02:08Managing our big horn sheep statewide for over 20 years, it's been my responsibility to put
02:16sheep back on the mountain and work with everyone to do that.
02:20This is a big deal.
02:21And I want you to tell us a little bit about why it's a big deal.
02:26Okay.
02:27So this is the first reintroduction of big horn sheep to tribal lands in Nevada.
02:31So this is a very significant day for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
02:34The lake range hasn't seen sheep since the early 1900s.
02:37I'm Emily Hagler.
02:38I work for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe in the Natural Resource Department, and I'm an
02:42environmental specialist.
02:43The east side of the lake is a very sacred site to the tribe, and a lot of people don't
02:48ever get the opportunity to go to the east side of the lake.
02:50It's a very big deal to have this collaborative effort happening with Nevada Department of Wildlife to
02:55bring sheep back to the reservation.
02:58I hope everybody here really just understands the significance of that.
03:02It's really neat.
03:03We've got a lot of experience putting sheep back to places that they haven't been at for
03:08over 100 years.
03:10But this one's special because this is the first ever translocation to a tribal land here
03:16in the state of Nevada.
03:17Well, get some good sleep, and we'll see you bright and early here at 4 to 45 a.m.
03:25We are here, so we're going to set up the base camp, and we'll see the helicopter come in
03:50in about a half hour, and we better get our butts in gear and get it ready.
04:00When Lewis and Clark explored the west for the first time, there was likely a million bighorn
04:06sheep scattered from northern Montana all the way to Texas.
04:10By the 1920s, we had lost 90 to 95 percent of the bighorn sheep.
04:17I'm putting together a swabbing tote to sample the bacteria and the tonsils of each animal.
04:26It's one of the greatest things I've done in my career, is to be a part of restoring herds
04:31throughout the state.
04:33So, a helicopter is going to be landing probably about 50 yards to the west of the tripod, which
04:42is the weigh scale.
04:42They'll be brought and weighed, and then each animal will be on a separate table.
04:50You can see the oxygen tanks here.
04:52We'll start giving them oxygen when they come in.
04:55All the collars, the satellite collars, are going to be put on that table, and so this
05:00is our processing tables.
05:04The folks handling sheep, the big things are plenty of support underneath the animals, don't
05:28carry weight by the head, but somebody needs to be on the head at all times to pull in that,
05:34to do damage.
05:35The horns.
05:36Yep.
05:37Hang on to those horns, make sure you have control of it, but don't carry weight with
05:40that nest.
05:41At least two people on the body, nobody needs to be trying to carry a whole sheep.
05:46Let's have a great time, a beautiful day, we've got fresh snow for the crew to find
05:51the sheep, and I'm feeling good about this day.
06:04There's a lot of things that are critical to safely capture those animals and bring them
06:12back.
06:13We definitely want the capture crew to be safe when they're out there flying in the helicopter.
06:18And then the loading of the sheep, we don't lose any animals, they don't run off.
06:23My name's Quinn Hesterly, I'm a Nevada game warden with the Department of Wildlife.
06:37Today, we're working on a case about a deer that was field dressed and left at the dump.
06:46The individual left their tag on top of it.
06:48I've been in contact with the individual, and he's going to meet us at the office.
06:54I'll be working with Jason Jackson.
06:56I'll be the primary.
06:58Jason will be there as more or less the cover officer.
07:00He may interject whenever he hears something that I may not be picking up on.
07:06But for the most part, he's just there for my safety and his.
07:11Why would you just dump a deer that you shot and gutted in a city dump when he could have
07:19dumped it in the, like out in the woods, and the coyotes would have eaten it up in like
07:24one or two days and there would have been no, nothing left.
07:28So basically there would have been no case had he not dumped a deer where he dumped it.
07:33That's the deer.
07:34This guy left his deer tag attached to the antlers.
07:37It's like leaving your driver's license at a crime scene, right?
07:40He had no intention of attempting to hide what he did.
07:45He has had tags in the past.
07:46He has harvested other animals.
07:50Why just leave this one behind with all your information right there?
07:56We don't know what their feelings are towards game wardens.
07:59Potentially they may know that they did this violation, so they may not be very happy to
08:03see us.
08:04But as it sits right now, what I'm looking at is the Waste of Game.
08:08It's a misdemeanor violation, but it does come with demerit points.
08:12And what that means is it's similar to driving violations.
08:16If you have too many driving violations, your driving privileges are revoked.
08:21Essentially the same thing happens with too many game violations.
08:25If you accrue a 12 demerits, you lose your hunting privileges for three years.
08:31Music playing
08:36Oh, my God.
09:06The capture crews, they are to slow those animals down to as slow as speed as possible, which
09:15means they're going to allow that group of animals to be going uphill.
09:18That's when they would prefer to take their shot.
09:20The gunner knows that the pilot is, hey, here's your nanosecond to shoot.
09:25So they're just in sync.
09:36The first thing that will calm those animals down is the blindfold.
09:44When they can't see what's going on, their heart rate automatically goes down.
09:48The crew that we have today, they have captured literally thousands of animals.
10:08They are so talented.
10:09Four coming in, all crews, hands on deck.
10:28Four coming in, all crews, hands on deck.
10:33We have four coming in now.
10:41They'll weigh them, then they'll bring them to the table where the veterinarians will check
10:46them out.
10:47And then from there, they'll move them into the trailers after they've taken their blood
10:50samples and making sure they're healthy and happy.
10:52Go get them.
11:19Go.
11:20Go.
11:20Go away.
11:20Go.
11:21Go.
11:21Go.
11:21Go.
11:22Go.
11:22Go.
11:22Go.
11:26Go.
11:26Are we?
11:27Go.
11:35Okay.
11:36Let's go ahead and move her a little bit down to the end.
11:41That'll make it better.
11:43There you go.
11:44Perfect.
11:45Ready?
11:46One of the important things also is we are keeping our voices down.
11:50You don't want to arouse the animals, give them a call.
11:55Capture myopathy can occur when an animal is overstressed.
12:00It's a combination of high temperature,
12:03high respiration rate, and a high heart rate.
12:06A sedative will really help the animal.
12:09They're not really hearing things.
12:11They're not really feeling things.
12:13And our wildlife vet is going to be monitoring
12:15the conditions that would lead to capture myopathy.
12:20He's down to about 140.
12:24My name is Nate LaHue.
12:26This week has been my first week of captures with the department,
12:30and I'm providing the veterinary support for that.
12:32Today we're surveying for a number of diseases.
12:35One of the biggest concern is called mycoplasma ovopneumoniae,
12:39and it causes pneumonia.
12:41What we're trying to do is figure out
12:44who in the herd is still shedding this bacteria.
12:47With bighorn sheep, it's a fairly small percentage
12:50of the herd that's causing that huge mortality in the lambs.
12:54It's really exciting to move animals
12:56and reestablish populations, and also to figure out
12:59what's going on disease-wise,
13:01and help improve the health of these populations.
13:03When you have a capture like this and you're in charge
13:17of the health and safety of these animals,
13:19it's certainly a stressful situation.
13:22There's a lot of time and effort that goes into relocating
13:27and capturing animals, and we want to make sure
13:29that we get them back out of the landscape healthy.
13:34It's really great to see so many getting captured today.
13:51We've got a ram now, we've got some babies,
13:54we've got some good ewes, and they're all in really good health.
14:04You know, we've put sheep in a lot of places,
14:06but to be able to help a First Nation build from the ground up
14:11a program to manage sheep that their ancestors hunted is huge.
14:17The lake range is where they're heading.
14:21It's about a four-and-a-half-hour drive.
14:38Quentin Hesterly, Nevada Game Warden. How are you?
14:40I'm going to meet you.
14:41I won't step a little by the truck.
14:44You have the right to remain silent.
14:46Anything you say can and will be used against you
14:47in the court of law.
14:48You have the right to talk to a lawyer
14:50and have him present with you while you're being questioned.
14:54Now, you aren't under arrest or anything.
14:56Are you still willing to talk with us?
14:58Yes.
14:58OK.
14:59So from our records, you had a tag, right?
15:02Yes.
15:03In Area 6?
15:03Yeah.
15:04How many were in the party?
15:05Two.
15:06Two? Who else was in it?
15:10Were you guys successful then?
15:11I was.
15:12Yeah.
15:13After hearing this guy's voice,
15:15this is a guy that was involved with a search and rescue
15:21in Elko County.
15:22His friend had passed away on this hunt.
15:24I was a part of the search and rescue.
15:26We had to haul his friend's body off the mountain.
15:30Last evening, the third day, I went up the canyon.
15:33Here was a big boy with a doe.
15:35Shot of him, he went over the ridge, and I didn't go.
15:38So I huffed it up there, and then I go over a ridge, and there they are.
15:43So then I shot him.
15:44I was about six inches off, but I still got him.
15:47When I looked away, I looked up, and he was gone.
15:49Nothing happened.
15:50Yeah.
15:51You ended up finding it later?
15:53How long later?
15:55Next morning, around 10 a.m.?
15:56Around 10?
15:57Yeah.
15:58OK.
15:59Hang on one second.
16:00I got to talk to him.
16:01This is the guy that is with the guy that died that I pulled off the mountain.
16:09I just want you to know that.
16:11OK.
16:12OK.
16:12OK.
16:17So my partner here made a connection that, obviously,
16:22a tragedy happened up on the hill.
16:24Your partner ended up passing way up on the hill.
16:27OK.
16:28I didn't connect the dots until I saw your face.
16:30I heard your voice, and you mentioned his name.
16:33I'm like, I spoke with you before.
16:36You found the deer after.
16:38You kind of lost him then?
16:39I found the deer on the radio.
16:43I got him now.
16:45Where are you?
16:46He goes, I'm not making any progress.
16:50My legs are weak, and I'm really dehydrated.
16:54So I went and got the drinks.
16:55I went up to where he agreed to need him.
16:58And I went around the ridge, you know, on their side, looking.
17:04I called the sheriff's department.
17:06It's on the search.
17:07The search department.
17:08Great down.
17:10And then I went to the dump, and I dumped off the deer.
17:15And then I washed off the blood on the back of my truck.
17:20And then I felt, you know, like I was a champion.
17:24Well, I want to extend my sympathies for losing a hunting partner.
17:28I mean, it's hard.
17:29And I understand that.
17:30But the reason for the contact today is the deer at the dump.
17:35Did you give any thought of possibly trying to get that to a processor
17:38to possibly donate it because you wanted to get rid of it?
17:41Yeah.
17:42I thought, what are my chances of dropping it off at, like,
17:45St. Vincent's or any place?
17:47What about locally in Elko?
17:49Well, what charity would accept the deer in Elko?
17:53So there are a couple.
17:54It comes down to the wanton waste of the deer, OK?
17:57That's the whole point of me coming to Reno today.
17:59I'm originally out of Elko.
18:01Same thing with Jason.
18:02That's a pretty big issue.
18:04I understand life events.
18:06We have an officer that was involved.
18:07But we still have to do our job.
18:09Yeah.
18:09Understandably, right?
18:10And that's like Clint said.
18:11That's why we're here, you know?
18:13Well, I realize that.
18:15But I am, you know, I was under stress.
18:18I get it.
18:19When I called the wife, they said, according
18:23to the Native American tradition, this is a death deer.
18:26Do not eat it.
18:28Do not eat that deer.
18:39And I'm on the phone, OK, OK, I won't eat the deer.
18:52His friend was a Native American.
18:55And his wife is saying, this deer is now cursed.
18:59And you should not eat it.
19:00You should not even have it in your house.
19:01And come to find out, this is the reason why
19:04that his deer was a dead deer.
19:07reason why that his deer wound up in Elko County Landfill.
19:11So that swayed your decision on what you ultimately did
19:14with the deer the next day?
19:16I never got to the point where I made some phone calls
19:19to see, hey, soup kitchen, do you want to accept
19:23the deer as a donation?
19:26And there was that dump.
19:29And I wanted to get back home.
19:32And so I went to the dump right there on the sign
19:34and I said, animals just report that you have one
19:37and they're good to go pretty much.
19:39And so $15, OK, $15.
19:44And so I dumped it off.
19:45And I was there because I was told to not eat that deer.
19:52So Paul, I would like to have you write me a statement
19:56of basically just kind of the story of a deer,
20:00how you harvested it, your buddy passing,
20:04and then how you came to your decision
20:06to take it to the dump.
20:10While you do that, I'm going to talk with Jason
20:12and we're going to come up with what we would like to do.
20:16We'll leave you to it for a little bit.
20:18We'll be nearby.
20:19So there's a curveball.
20:24Um, I don't know what to tell you.
20:30You don't have to write a ticket right now.
20:32Yeah.
20:33You don't have to write a ticket ever.
20:34But is it fair to the other sports?
20:38That's kind of where I'm going with it.
20:49My name is Chris Walther, game warden.
20:53Being a game warden in Clark County,
20:55which is the county Las Vegas is in,
20:57as game wardens, we are state police officers
20:59and we deal with every other crime not related
21:02to hunting, fishing, and boating.
21:03Lake Mead is so close to the city of Las Vegas.
21:07Not only do we deal with the local boating traffic,
21:09but also we deal with a lot of tourism traffic out here
21:12where they just don't have an idea
21:14of what recreational boating laws are.
21:18How are we doing, folks?
21:19Not good.
21:20No fish.
21:20State game warden.
21:21I'll come around and check a fishing license.
21:23We're a few less poles on that side.
21:30So no luck today, huh?
21:31No.
21:33How can that be?
21:33There's fish everywhere.
21:35I'm trying to catch a catfish right now.
21:38Is that good?
21:38I got some of them.
21:39Yep.
21:39Well, let's see.
21:40Yep, here we go.
21:42Is she fishing?
21:42No.
21:43OK, how come we had five lines in the water?
21:47One more than I hate, right?
21:48Well, we've got one, two, three, and we had two on this side.
21:50So how many poles are you supposed to fish with?
21:53OK.
21:54So I got three in the water.
21:55OK.
21:57I need to see your fishing license and his driver's license.
21:59Do you have it on your phone?
22:00Well, I have to download it.
22:02OK, let me take a look at that real quick.
22:04Do you have your ID on you?
22:05Let me take a look at it, please.
22:09So it's fine to have it on your phone.
22:10But once you get it downloaded, take a screenshot of it.
22:13So that way, you can just bring it up fairly quick.
22:15OK.
22:15Paint that for me.
22:17Reno 3411 Hatchery.
22:20Vessel contact, two 2729s.
22:23Nevada DL.
22:24I got the license.
22:26Oh, you found it?
22:27Yeah.
22:27All right, be right over.
22:32He admitted he was fishing with three poles.
22:34So pretty compliant, no issues.
22:37But obviously, he received a citation for that.
22:43Mr. ,, is yours?
22:45And Mr. ,, so you know you can only fish with two poles,
22:48correct?
22:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:49I'm not good at that.
22:51All right.
22:54And do me a favor.
22:55Don't throw your cigarette butt in the water,
22:56because that's littering.
22:57I know.
22:58I'll pick it up.
22:59OK.
22:59I doubt it.
23:00OK.
23:01Let me explain this to you, OK?
23:03One violation using more than two poles.
23:05Total bail amount is 195.
23:07Just make sure you take care of it on it before that date.
23:08Otherwise, it'll go to Wharton Estate, Nevada.
23:10OK.
23:10OK?
23:11Sign right there on the X for me.
23:15OK.
23:16Appreciate it.
23:16Two poles.
23:18All right, guys.
23:19Enjoy the day.
23:35424.
23:363411.
23:37I just came around Black Island.
23:39I've got three vehicles on the shoreline.
23:42No sign of anything yet at this point.
23:44Copy, do you see people down Crawdad Cove?
23:47I haven't gone over there yet.
23:48I will shoot over to Crawdad and see what's over there.
23:53Just received a call from dispatch of shocks fired,
23:57potentially, possibly rifle shots in the location of Boxcar Crawdad
24:02Cove.
24:03So we're going to scope out a couple areas from the water,
24:06maybe direct the land units in if we possibly have some sort of situation.
24:15As a law enforcement officer in this day and age,
24:17you're thinking active shooter, you're thinking multiple assailants,
24:20you're thinking how many injured.
24:22My thought process is getting on scene, interviewing any witnesses,
24:26finding out if they saw anything suspicious.
24:31Is there any individuals at that SUV?
24:33I'm going to glass it real quick.
24:423411, I'll be in contact with one individual.
24:45What are you doing, sir?
24:46What's going on?
24:48What a lot.
24:49How many people in the vehicle?
24:51Two.
24:51OK.
24:52Any weapons or drugs in the vehicle?
24:53No.
24:54OK.
24:54You just out here camping?
24:55Yes, sir.
24:56OK.
24:57Do you have your ID on you?
24:58Yes, sir, I do.
24:59Yeah, I'm camping.
25:01Oh, yeah.
25:01We got a couple of calls in the area.
25:03We're just trying to exhaust all resources on them.
25:06How many dogs you got?
25:08Holy cow.
25:09Three.
25:10All in that vehicle?
25:11Yeah.
25:11Jeepers.
25:13All right.
25:14Just hang tight for me real quick.
25:17Reno, 3411.
25:18Oh, .
25:20Oregon ID card.
25:21Do you guys happen to hear any gunshots?
25:25Uh, I heard something earlier from similar to a guy.
25:30Exploding.
25:31That way, approximately 15 minutes ago.
25:35I didn't know a gunshot.
25:37OK.
25:38OK.
25:38OK.
25:39OK.
25:40OK.
25:47Just be careful, all right?
25:48Yes, sir.
25:49Take care of yourself.
25:49All right.
25:50All right.
25:56Yeah, 10-4.
25:5830 minutes to go.
25:5910-4.
26:00There's two or three more parties to the south.
26:02I'll check.
26:06There would be no legal reason as to why someone would be
26:09discharging a firearm at Lake Mead.
26:11It's a no shooting area with all the beaches, all the traffic,
26:14the congestion.
26:16Obviously, it's very unsafe to discharge a firearm.
26:19How we doing, folks?
26:20You just camping out for the night?
26:21Yeah, we're going to have one.
26:23OK.
26:24Do you guys happen to hear any gunshots or anything?
26:25Yeah.
26:26They shoot about 10 rails off, and then it will stop for about two hours,
26:30and then go off again.
26:32But they were doing it throughout the night.
26:33Does it sound like a high-powered rifle or sound like a pistol or?
26:37Yeah, right.
26:37There you go.
26:38Hang down.
26:39All right.
26:39Appreciate your time, guys.
26:42Contacted another party, confirmed hearing shots throughout the night about 30 minutes
26:48ago.
26:49There was one dark-colored SUV that was parked over here in a boxcar that is now gone.
26:54A firm, and it was parked adjacent to where I'm at right now.
27:07There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that left.
27:12Copy.
27:13MI-12 right there, or off to my area.
27:16OK.
27:17About to your 11 o'clock, up underneath this bluff.
27:23How you doing, ma'am?
27:39There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that left.
27:47How you doing, ma'am?
27:49Can you speak English?
27:51Where is your wife?
27:56He left?
27:57No.
27:58No.
27:59No.
28:00No.
28:01No.
28:02No.
28:03No.
28:04No.
28:05No.
28:06No.
28:07No.
28:08No.
28:09No.
28:10No.
28:11No.
28:12No.
28:13No.
28:14No.
28:15No.
28:16No.
28:17No.
28:18No.
28:19No.
28:19No.
28:19No.
28:21No.
28:21No.
28:23No.
28:23There are over there.
28:40OK.
28:42Well, it's got to be coming back.
28:44I mean, who knows?
28:45Maybe they went to get more ammunition.
28:47So you don't have to ride a ticket right now.
28:57What?
28:58Is it fair to other sports?
29:00That's kind of where I'm going with it.
29:02Christy's riding there.
29:03If you would like to talk with her, I would suggest that.
29:05But I think I will talk to Christy.
29:08Hey, Christy, this is Jason.
29:10Hey, Jason.
29:11Can we borrow you for, like, maybe like 10 minutes
29:14out here in the parking lot?
29:15We got something to run by you.
29:17OK.
29:18I'll go.
29:19Thank you, ma'am.
29:22Christy Knight, she is the Western Region Lieutenant,
29:24and she's the closest supervisor that I have to be able to run
29:27the intricacies of this particular situation past her.
29:32He ended up killing a buck, cleaned it out.
29:35He ended up taking it to Elko Sanitation, to the dump,
29:38and leaving it there with his tag.
29:40So one waste case.
29:43The moral dilemma that I'm struggling with is during all
29:46that, his partner died, and he was dealing with the
29:50cremation process.
29:52I'll let you do something.
29:53As far as sighting this guy, it's just a little bit more
29:56of a dilemma of at what point do we allow some leniency?
30:01Is there a reason he didn't contact us?
30:04Not that I'm aware, being that there was a game ward involved
30:06in the situation.
30:07I'm under a lot of distress at that time.
30:09Yeah.
30:10There are other things on the inside.
30:12How do you feel about the want and waste of not the big game,
30:15but just game-ending?
30:17Yeah.
30:18I'm fine with that.
30:20I think there's probably what's going on here,
30:22and everything like that going on.
30:23Yeah.
30:24And honestly, we came to meet with you.
30:26We wanted to make it right.
30:28Yeah.
30:29So I would go to the place that came down.
30:31I think that fits.
30:37Whenever you get to a stopping point, Paul,
30:39I'd like to speak with you a minute.
30:40OK.
30:41So I completely sympathize with you,
30:45with your hunting partner passing,
30:47and everything you had going on that day.
30:49I just spoke with the lieutenant to give me
30:51some better frame of mind.
30:54But like Jason said, we still have a job to do,
30:57and it comes down to the fact that there was a deer
31:00that was wasted.
31:01I understand that being a death deer in some realms,
31:04unfortunately, the law doesn't see it that way,
31:07and I still have to do my job.
31:08There was a couple options that we had.
31:10You'll be receiving the citation today.
31:12It's a simple misdemeanor citation, OK?
31:14But rather than going with the big-game wanton waste,
31:20which it comes with a 12-de-merit violation,
31:23which then you would lose your hunting privileges
31:25for three years.
31:26What I'm going to cite you for is the waste of gain,
31:29not big gain, which brings it down in demerits
31:32and allows you to still be able to hunt.
31:34We addressed the issue of losing the deer,
31:37but also I am completely sympathetic on the situation you were in.
31:41You were under a lot of stress.
31:43But essentially, you were working with the gain warden
31:46at one point.
31:47You could have easily asked Jason,
31:49hey, I don't want this deer.
31:51What can I do with it legally?
31:53So if you don't mind, do you have your driver's license on you?
31:56I'm going to go ahead and knock that out while you finish your statement.
32:00Any questions from me so far?
32:02OK.
32:03Thank you, Paul.
32:07In this particular situation, it's not as black and white
32:10as you're going five miles over the speed limit, here's your ticket.
32:13The reason why I can't just let this one go is he had been in contact with Jason.
32:19That would have gladly helped him through the process of how to get rid of that deer appropriately.
32:26I definitely have to hold myself to the standard that the state would expect from me.
32:31I'm going to get to see you again next year.
32:33Hopefully, if you draw some tags again.
32:36Yeah.
32:37Let's see.
32:38My daughter, he's 11, so she'd like to take a hunter safety course.
32:41Really?
32:44So your information's up top.
32:46What I'm signing you for is the needless ways to gain.
32:49It does come with nine demerits like we talked about.
32:51So you're kind of high with the nine demerits.
32:54You can take a hunter safety class if you wanted to, and they would knock off three.
32:59So a suggestion, Paul, you said your daughter's 11.
33:02She can take the hunter safety course at any time.
33:04You can take it along with her.
33:06Like Quinn said, you can get some of your demerit points reduced.
33:08And then it would help your daughter.
33:10Right.
33:11So what I need from you is just a signature at the bottom.
33:14It's not an admission deal.
33:15It's just a promise to take care of the ticket.
33:18We don't want to deter anyone from hunting unless they're doing it completely wrong.
33:23I don't think that's your case.
33:24It was a terrible situation.
33:26I mean, I could have made most of the opportunity to call Jason.
33:31Yeah, exactly.
33:32He gave me his business card.
33:34That morning, I had it in front of me.
33:36I didn't call him.
33:37Yeah.
33:38And unfortunately, that's going to cost you a bit.
33:40But I know from this point on, you aren't going to hesitate to call him anymore, right?
33:44You get presented that again, you know exactly what you need to do.
33:49So in a similar situation where you're presented with, do I need to call or not, go ahead and make that phone call.
33:55It could save you a lot of headache down the road.
33:57Yeah.
33:58You've been great today.
33:59I appreciate you coming in and meeting with us.
34:01Are there any other questions for Jason or Aaron?
34:03No questions.
34:04No questions.
34:05Perfect.
34:06All right.
34:07Appreciate it, sir.
34:08Thank you for meeting with us.
34:09Paul, it was a pleasure to see you again.
34:10Thanks, Jason.
34:11How do you feel about that?
34:14Not the greatest, but like you were saying, the best outcome for doing what we need to do, but also being sympathetic to the situation with it.
34:25It's always that balance, right?
34:26It would have been hard for me to write the same thing that you just wrote because I was more into it.
34:30You were more in it.
34:32Yeah, than you were.
34:34So there's a back story to everything.
34:41There is a party camped up underneath the rocks, probably associated with that SUV that left.
34:53How you doing, ma'am?
34:55I'm language.
35:06We think that this is the party that is discharging the firearm.
35:10Sounds like two male individuals had left.
35:13In communicating with the female, she did confirm the fact that they did have a handgun in the car.
35:19Can you read this right here?
35:21Don't they say disparo la pistola?
35:23Right here?
35:25Kind of a language barrier here, so it's difficult to decide for what exactly is going down.
35:30We have a target.
35:32You have a target?
35:33Any casings?
35:34Here we go.
35:35Okay.
35:36With the number of people that come out here and recreate, camp, boat, fish, you never know where that round is going to go, what it's going to ricochet off of.
35:47So National Park Service has designated some areas that are no shooting.
35:52And obviously anywhere in the water where there's people recreating, it's no shooting.
35:57Hit it once.
35:58That's all it took.
35:59Yeah.
36:00Yeah.
36:01Yeah.
36:02Yeah.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Yeah.
36:05Yeah.
36:06Yeah.
36:07Yeah.
36:08That suspect vehicle that we were looking for has returned back to that location.
36:13So we'll just hang, make sure that everything's going to be code four with those guys.
36:19We've got one.
36:20Yeah.
36:21Who's done?
36:22Whose is it?
36:23Yours or yours?
36:24It's yours?
36:25I agree.
36:26Start.
36:27Okay.
36:28As far as four, six, twenty-eight.
36:29Yeah.
36:30Good to go.
36:31Yeah.
36:32Yeah.
36:33Good to go.
36:34Yeah.
36:35Yeah.
36:36Good to go.
36:37That's all right.
36:38Yeah.
36:39Yeah.
36:40Yeah.
36:41Yeah.
36:42Yeah.
36:43Yeah.
36:44Yeah.
36:46Yeah.
36:47Yeah.
36:48Do you guys have his charge fire on and his charge
36:51and part of the shooting and $99 for him?
36:55OK.
36:56OK.
37:01Both individuals had resident cards,
37:04so they were legally allowed to be here.
37:06The gun was clear.
37:07The older individual does have a warrant out of North Las Vegas
37:10for a traffic violation.
37:12It sounds like North Las Vegas is going to confirm the warrant,
37:15so they'll transport the one individual.
37:17He'll go to jail tonight.
37:19Did you guys do any fishing with the Kanya?
37:26Do you have a fishing license?
37:28No.
37:30Whose pole is in the back?
37:31Who's Kanya?
37:34Doesn't work?
37:36All right.
37:37Hold on, I'm out of here.
37:38Hasta luego.
37:42I mean, those guys were shooting off that cliff into the water,
37:45and, I mean, 9mm round can travel pretty far,
37:49so who knows if there's a guy fishing over on the shore,
37:52could get killed.
37:53So, obviously, it's a safety issue, public safety issue.
37:56Park Service is going to cite them for discharge of a firearm
37:59in National Park, no shooting area,
38:02and then, obviously, target shooting.
38:03It's a little bit easier to see things from the water out here
38:07than it is on land, especially with all the roads
38:09and canyons they've got to go through.
38:12It's just a good example of collaboration
38:13with two different agencies working together.
38:18Ring on 34, London, Code 4.
38:19I'll be clear.
38:2010-8 on the water.
38:20Right now, we're headed out to the Lake Range,
38:44just east of Pyramid Lake.
38:46I'm leading the convoy out there to release the sheep.
38:52Today, we got 22.
38:53They're happy.
38:54They're healthy.
38:55We got several ewes that were pregnant,
38:57six of them which got vaginal implant transmitters,
39:00and we'll be able to see exactly where those six females
39:04are having babies this spring
39:06and see what habitat is best for raising their lambs.
39:12So, we're coming up on the pyramid now.
39:16Speaking as a biologist that works
39:19for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe,
39:21I think that this is a very exciting moment
39:23that every member of the Paiute Tribe should be proud of
39:26and really a moment that every Nevadan should be proud of
39:30where we can come together as a state agency
39:33and as a tribal entity to really celebrate
39:37the reintroduction of the species on tribal lands.
39:41This is really the history of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe
39:43happening right now.
39:46I want to welcome everybody here today.
39:50You know, it's been a lot of years since this started,
39:52and each and every one of you here, you know,
39:54you're all part of this.
39:56It's like I was telling my grandson today.
39:58I said, you're going to be able to tell your grandkids
40:00what you helped out with up here,
40:02that you bring all this back.
40:05With that, I'm going to go ahead
40:07you know, say a fair here for these sheep.
40:11Grandfather, I ask good things for these sheep today.
40:13You know, I ask that they survive
40:25and, you know, thrive in this mountain range again
40:29like they used to years and years ago.
40:32I ask that you take care of them in a good way.
40:35Help them back on their way home.
40:36You know, I ask that blessing for these sheep.
40:42We are very fortunate to have
40:52our sheep, our fish, our land, and our water.
40:56I'm very blessed.
40:58I feel very blessed.
41:02Getting, like, an animal,
41:04like a whole animal back,
41:06it's like adding more voice to our culture
41:08and to who we are as people.
41:11I want to be just about it
41:13because I'm very proud to be Native American,
41:15and I think it's just a great thing
41:17that we have another ancient animal with us.
41:26I want to be just about it.
