00:00I pulled up here with the truck and they're just laying there looking at me
00:13like it's another day and that's not typical deer behavior. Well because you
00:18don't have an AIS sticker I can't let you go back out on the water.
00:20Are you serious? Once the animal is netted I'm getting out of the helicopter getting
00:26to the animal to where it's you know safe for the animal as well as us.
00:31Check fishing licenses real quick. California. We don't honor California.
00:35If you don't then I'm fishing without a license.
00:40Nevada. A land of extremes. From the strip to the summits. It's wild country. Home to more
00:51than 900 species and a way of life worth protecting. Preserved for the people
00:57and the wildlife that call it home. One team stands guard. This is Nevada Wild.

01:50Oh, my God.
02:20Oh, my God.
02:50Right on.
03:06Sounds good.
03:06Did you guys find your deer?
03:08Okay, sounds good.
03:14My name is Matthew Jeffress.
03:17I'm a game biologist out of the eastern region for Nevada Department of Wildlife.
03:20Today, I'm working with the capture crew, Quicksilver Air.
03:24We work with them.
03:24We've been working with them for several years now on a lot of our big game capture work,
03:29and we're going to be targeting Rocky Mountain elk.
03:32We're going to be targeting mule deer, and we're going to be targeting California bighorn sheep on the snowstorm mountains in western Elko County.
03:38He's up there working on that other deer, right?
03:40Oh, okay.
03:41Yeah.
03:42They go out.
03:43They fly around.
03:44They're really good at what they're doing, locating wildlife.
03:48They're looking for bighorn sheep from known locations and also taking advantage of just a random chance of finding a bighorn sheep that may be moving from one area to another.
03:57And they're out catching animals, and now I'm just waiting for them to come back.
04:05With the bighorn sheep, it's a continuation of a disease project.
04:09We've monitored these sheep since 2011 when we had a summer die-off.
04:13There was contact between domestic sheep and bighorn sheep.
04:15We've maintained a good number of colors on these animals, and we're just looking at disease profiles and interactions among subherds.
04:22There's a good number of colors on these animals, and we're just looking at disease profiles.
04:52My name's Harley Cushman.
05:01I work for Quicksilver Air.
05:03Once the animal's netted, generally I'm getting out of the helicopter, getting to the animal, controlling it on the ground to where it's safe for the animal as well as us.
05:16And then at that point, we're untangling the animal out of the net, and we have some hobble straps that we take and tether the back and front legs together so they can't kick us while we're processing them.
05:30And then, you know, after they're hobbled up, we usually blindfold them.
05:35Typically, they have a collar, a tracking collar they want put on them, along with blood samples they want taking, ear tag, aging measurements on some.
05:45We try to get in there and get it done quick so they spend as little time as possible on the ground.
05:55Yeah, they're able to get all three rams, so we're definitely going to transition over to elk and grab a few more deer.
06:01My name's Perry Miller.
06:17I've been a game warden just a little over two years.
06:21I'm starting my third year right now.
06:22Still fairly new at it, but I enjoy every minute of it from the quotes to especially hunting patrol during the wintertime.
06:31I mean, hunting, that's my bread and butter.
06:33It's what I grew up doing.
06:35Kind of always wanted to do this job.
06:39So we just pulled in on the Willow Beach Road.
06:43This is the access road to Willow Beach in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
06:48As soon as we pull up and go around the corner, we'll be able to start seeing fishermen and everything like that.
06:53So hopefully everybody's playing by the rules today.
07:01Good morning, guys.
07:07Yay, mordons.
07:08Check licenses real quick.
07:10I've got two big ones up here this morning.
07:12Awesome.
07:13Give me a pull button.
07:14One?
07:16Thank you very much.
07:18You bet.
07:19Yep.
07:19Let's see the fish real quick.
07:21Yeah.
07:24It's good to see some of the big ones are still in here.
07:26Yeah, I know.
07:26Yeah, awesome.
07:30All right, you guys have a good morning.
07:39Any luck?
07:41Two.
07:41Little guys, it looks like.
07:43Perfect taco size.
07:44Game word and check fishing licenses real quick.
07:48Thank you very much.
07:51How far north are you from?
07:53Calgary.
07:53Calgary?
07:54Yeah.
07:54I figured.
07:55The accident and you're what waiting.
07:56So this is summer water to you.
07:59Oh, yeah.
08:00This is bathtub.
08:00Yep.
08:01Awesome.
08:01All right.
08:02You have a good day, sir.
08:08Any luck this morning?
08:10Nothing yet?
08:12Thank you very much.
08:14Yep.
08:14You have a good morning.
08:17Check fishing license real quick.
08:19I don't have one.
08:20You don't have one?
08:20No.
08:20We hit our target on California bighorn sheep.
08:32We were able to get our deer collared.
08:37So now the crew's moving over east of where we were this morning, about 15 miles east, still
08:43part of the snowstorm mountains, and going for elk.
08:48We have a problem with just random spring, summer elk mortality, both sexes, bulls and cows.
08:54It's a pretty high mortality rate.
08:56Every year since 2015, we've had anywhere between 20% and 50% mortality on our collared cows.
09:03So it's more than just a random chance at this point.
09:06And we've really been putting everything into figuring out what's actually affecting these elk and the causal agent.
09:12Elk, they're big critters.
09:22They've got big, long necks, big heads.
09:24That net gunner, you know, he has a split second.
09:27We usually try to put the net on them when they're turning.
09:30You know, you put that net on them when they're turning, and there's a lot better chance of their legs get tangled up in the net.
09:37And then as they're turning, they'll lay down right on their side.
09:42Snow is ideal for all animals, you know, something to cushion them when they fall.
09:47They're not running as fast.
09:49You know, our goal is really to do this as safe for the animal, causing as little as harm as we can.
10:00The goal is, you know, the animals and the people walk away at the end of the day.
10:05And as well as gain valuable information that Endow can study and hopefully improve, you know, the habitat for all the animals.
10:16Broker, you pull.
10:17Pull.
10:35Let's get this over with right now, huh?
10:45Then I've got to lube that deal up to go down her throat.
11:07And the bolus, that big magnet-looking device put down the elk's throat, sits in their rumen, and then that communicates with the caller.
11:18And if the elk dies and stops moving for just a few minutes, we'll get communication from that caller to a satellite and then directly to our cell phones and texts and then email as well.
11:29And then every spring we have a team of biologists ready to go out.
11:34So we have a pretty quick response time, anywhere from three to four hours on getting on these elk and collecting fresh samples and really trying to get at the bottom of what's going on.
11:44And then they'll collect a suite of samples.
11:50So blood sample, we can look at trace minerals and any kind of pathogens that the animals have been exposed to.
11:57And then we'll be collecting nasal swabs or pharyngeal swabs on some.
12:01And then they'll get ear tags in their ears so we can identify them from a distance, from the ground, and from the air when we're doing aerial surveys.
12:09And then lastly, they'll get the radio caller attached to the animal's neck.
12:15And then they're released as quick as possible at the same place where they're captured so they're not moved away from their home range and they know where they're at.
12:22And then they're off to doing what they're doing and we get to learn more about each of the species.
12:31Check fishing license real quick.
12:55I don't have one.
12:56You don't have one?
12:57No.
12:57Okay.
12:58Do you have a driver's license?
13:00I do.
13:01All right.
13:03Cool.
13:04Stay out for me right here.
13:06Fishing contact, Willow Beach, 2729, and a Calcumet check on a mail out of Nevada.
13:12Gentleman's fishing.
13:13He has a line in the water.
13:14Said he doesn't have a fishing license.
13:16So up front with me.
13:17But I want to make sure all the stuff that's going on with him first before I go any farther into it.
13:2310-4, 10-6.
13:36He has a citation and then we're also going to have a discussion.
13:41His driver's license is revoked.
13:43So I'm going to want to figure out how he got down here.
13:45Gabriel, come up here.
13:52Okay.
13:53So you are receiving a citation for not having a license, Gary.
13:55Do you know you need one?
13:57Yeah, I did know.
13:57Okay.
13:58So the other question I have, how did you get down here?
14:02Um, look over there.
14:04Did you drive it?
14:05No, I didn't drive.
14:05You didn't drive?
14:06Okay.
14:06You know your license is suspended, right?
14:08I know that.
14:08Okay.
14:08I'm not driving.
14:09All right.
14:09Just making sure you're not driving.
14:10Right here's the violation.
14:12Fishing without having a license, okay?
14:13That's what it comes out to.
14:14Damn.
14:16I need your signature there.
14:17Just promise to take care of it.
14:18It's not an admission of guilt.
14:19If I bought the gear pass, would it drop the fine or no?
14:22Um, I can't speak for the judge.
14:24A lot of people that get these licenses, they do buy it and then go to the court with that.
14:30So there's your copy, sir.
14:31Okay.
14:32And your driver's license back.
14:33All right.
14:33Any questions?
14:34Nope.
14:34That's it.
14:34All right.
14:34You're free to go, sir.
14:36He straight up told me he didn't have a license and thought that license, he's not paying to
14:41protect the resource.
14:42So he decided not to buy it.
14:45So he took a chance and he got caught today.
14:48So that's how it goes.
14:51It's kind of interesting the way that Lake Mead, Lake Mojave and the Colorado River work.
14:56We have shared jurisdiction with Arizona on it.
14:59So Arizona can enforce fishing laws on the Nevada side.
15:02We can enforce fishing laws on the Arizona side.
15:05That's definitely a unique patrol area that we have where anybody, they have an Arizona
15:10license, they can fish on either side of the shore.
15:12They have a Nevada license, they can fish on any side of the shore.
15:15Good morning, guys.
15:19I'm Gabe Morton.
15:20Check fishing licenses real quick.
15:22Bought it online yesterday.
15:24Can I show you the email or confirmation?
15:26Yep.
15:26California.
15:27You guys honor California.
15:29We don't honor California.
15:31We don't?
15:32No.
15:32Not here.
15:33Then I'm fishing without a license.
15:35Two days ago, we rented the boat.
16:02They said you can go online, renew your California license, or get a Nevada or Arizona license.
16:09No.
16:09You can Arizona or Nevada is good, not California.
16:13There's no California shoreline on Lake Mead or Lake Mojave.
16:16What, do you guys got your IDs on you?
16:18Yeah.
16:21Fishing contact, Willow Beach, 227-29, and Cal Camino checks on two males out of California.
16:27So they don't have Nevada or Arizona fishing licenses.
16:34They were told by the marina guys that their California fishing license would be good, which is not the case.
16:4124-0-9, both subject through all systems, both valid California DL, both negative Cal Camino.
16:4710-4, 10-6.
16:51All right, guys.
16:52You said you renewed your California ones, right?
16:54Yeah.
16:54This is from two days ago when I just renewed it.
16:58Okay.
17:00And then yours is the same?
17:01Yeah.
17:02Why would this guy tell us?
17:04I don't know.
17:05The marina did change ownership before.
17:07They used to sell Arizona licenses down here.
17:10They used to.
17:11Hey, guys.
17:11Hang out at my tailgate for me.
17:13Okay.
17:13All right, guys.
17:16So here's what's happening.
17:19You are getting citations for fishing without the licenses, okay?
17:22Go fishing somewhere, you got to know the regulations.
17:24I know they...
17:25You got to be able to depend on the people that run the marina when you're a stranger in town.
17:29Right.
17:29But they're not the ones fishing.
17:31Ultimately, responsible, it's you, correct?
17:33Yeah.
17:34I'm not arguing with you.
17:35I understand where you're coming from.
17:37Yep.
17:37So what's the real world looking at the fact that we renewed our licenses from California two days ago?
17:43The purpose of that was I wanted to see if you were lying to me or not.
17:49So it's going to be the same for both of you except the upper portion, okay?
17:52Yep.
17:52Down in the middle is going to be your violation, okay?
17:54And I need your signatures.
17:55It's not an admission of guilt.
17:57It's a promise to contact the court.
17:58Maybe you could put on there that they claim they were misinformed by the marina so that if we decide to claim this thing for it, we can do that.
18:06I'll add that on there for you.
18:07We had California licenses.
18:09Here's your guys' licenses back.
18:13All right.
18:14There's your guys' copies.
18:15You have any questions for me?
18:16Yeah.
18:17When you started to hand our licenses back to them, thinking about just letting it go as a warning.
18:22I was never handing your licenses back to you when I was looking at your phones.
18:25It seemed like you were handing it back to me.
18:27No.
18:28All right.
18:29All right.
18:30Okay.
18:30I want to go over and talk to the people in the marina.
18:32Tell them to quit growing up business for you guys by giving bad information.
18:36Because I'm going to go say stuff.
18:40Okay.
18:40You can say something.
18:41I don't want any problems down there.
18:43No, no, no.
18:43You're not going to have any problems.
18:45Right.
18:45We just missed the phone.
18:47Because there have been lots of people bad information.
18:49Yeah.
18:50They're giving bad information in a guest.
18:53Yep.
18:53No, I understand.
18:54But like I said, too, it's on you guys ultimately.
18:56Oh, I'm not arguing.
18:57I'm not arguing with you.
18:59Okay.
18:59No, I understand.
19:02Have a safe case.
19:03You too, sir.
19:03That was an interesting one.
19:10Usually I get that quite a bit.
19:12People asking if a California license is good.
19:15That was the most kickback I've ever had from people, though.
19:17I've got some elk meat from a case that we're going to take down to the processor that we usually take all of our meat to here at Elko.
19:39It came from a case from back in November this year.
19:44Two 40-year-old individuals ended up killing a bull elk for their 82-year-old dad.
19:49It was on their 82-year-old dad's elk tag.
19:51So neither of those guys had tags for themselves.
19:54So it ended up being an unlawful harvest of a big-game mammal without a valid tag, which is a felony in the state of Nevada.
20:02So we'll take this meat down to the processor.
20:04We'll get it processed.
20:05And then once we get a conviction on the case, we'll take that meat and we'll donate it to the families in need, or they will go to feed the homeless so the meat doesn't get wasted.
20:16We're going to get all the meat that are in these bags, pull it inside, and once it thaws out, then they'll be able to get everything processed for us.
20:25And once you want me to cut this tag off of that, Alex, if you want that, you can take that thing.
20:34Like I said, it's been in the freezer, so it's all still pretty frozen.
20:38So we'll get what we can out of it, Alex.
20:42Appreciate it.
20:44Have a good one.
20:45You too.
20:45Hey, uh, I got a report on a person feeding deer.
21:13Oh, really?
21:14Where at?
21:16Uh, Spring Valley Parkway.
21:17Spring Valley Parkway.
21:19We'll, uh, head out to Spring Creek and run around and talk to some people that are feeding deer.
21:25Okay, buddy.
21:26All right.
21:26Yep.
21:26None of a problem.
21:27Okay.
21:27Bye.
21:28Bye.
21:28In the state of Nevada, it's illegal to feed deer.
21:32It congregates deer, brings them within closer contact with each other, so disease transmission between animals increases, brings predators down in, you know, the lions, coyotes, things like that.
21:43People follow the deer around, and it just kind of creates more of a public safety problem.
21:49By people feeding them, these animals just get used to humans.
21:52They get habituated to humans and human activity and coming in and around people's houses and things like that.
21:59And it creates more of a problem for the deer and for the people.
22:04If people would just leave them alone, let them be wild, those deer would kind of move through the area.
22:09And the people that are doing the stuff, specifically to feed wildlife because they think they're helping, those are the ones that we want to curb the problem.
22:17They were feeding deer in the past.
22:25I don't know if they're feeding deer anymore or not, but these guys had little grain buckets that they'd fill up, and they would take out there and strategically put them out there in the yard underneath the trees for the deer.
22:38I dig there, I can see them, a whole bunch of them in that backyard.
22:48There's a whole bunch of them laying in the front yard, too.
22:50You can kind of see the hay that's out here on the ground, and there's hay out here.
23:01I think I'm going to go find out what it is that they're doing with the hay, if they're actually feeding their horses, or how it is that they're dropping hay so strategically, considering their horses are in some stalls on that side of the barn.
23:14You can see a bunch of the hay kicked out right out here, and clear out the driveway, some back over there, some up there by the trees, and, I mean, you can see where the hay is all behind there.
23:29And, I mean, if they were just coming out and going down alongside the barn to feed the horses, or coming out to go feed the horse that's back behind, and they were dropping hay right there.
23:38I'm not going to say that that's intentionally feeding deer, but when it's kicked out in all these spots out here, you can definitely tell that, you know, he's kicking hay out for the deer.
23:51That trail right there, with all the deer poop on it.
23:59I mean, it goes right back into where the horses are at, so.
24:08How are you?
24:16Nick Brunson.
24:17Hi, Nick.
24:18I wanted to come by.
24:19I wanted to find out the hay that you guys have.
24:21Yeah.
24:22Down out over there.
24:23Are you guys setting that out for the deer?
24:26Well, we sweep up the barn and throw it out there.
24:29Why is there a problem?
24:30The hay that you guys have down out over there,
24:45are you guys setting that out for the near?
24:47Well, we sweep up the barn and throw it out there.
24:51Why is there a problem?
24:52Yeah, try not to.
24:54Why is that?
24:54It's just it'd fall under an intentional feeding
24:57a big aim, and that's a violation of the law.
25:00Really?
25:01Yeah.
25:02If you guys are feeding your horses and some of it ends up
25:04dropping out as you're going to throw it to the horses,
25:07that's a different story.
25:08Yeah, OK.
25:09But try not to intentionally put hay out for them.
25:13OK, with that in mind, are there territories or places
25:17where this is against the law and places that aren't?
25:21It pretty much is.
25:23I've got a sheet that I can show you all the stuff
25:27where it says the specifics on it.
25:30I can show you what this is.
25:31I mean, this is an official written warning
25:34for feeding wildlife.
25:36But basically, it tells you, you know,
25:38a person shall not intentionally feed big-game mammals.
25:41It doesn't include incidental or unintentional feeding,
25:44like I say.
25:45But when you're sweeping the stuff out
25:47into a little spot out there for the deer,
25:50then that becomes intentional.
25:52Well, when we put it out front,
25:54we know the horses aren't going to get it
25:56unless they go out front.
25:57Right.
25:57They don't do that all the time.
25:59So the deer will pick up that hay that swept off the floors
26:03and stuff.
26:04Right.
26:04OK.
26:05Basically, the biggest reasons feeding wildlife
26:08is prohibited.
26:09It acclimates the animals to the humans.
26:11It customs the animals to roadways.
26:12So, you know, they could potentially get hit by vehicle,
26:15you know, endangering people and themselves.
26:17Foraging habits are reduced, and disease transmission
26:21between animals can actually be increased.
26:23Attracting predators, you know, with the deer increasingly
26:27coming into a certain food source,
26:29it could attract predators to come into that same area.
26:33So, you know, it would in turn affect your horses,
26:38you, your wife, little dogs, cats, anything like that.
26:42But we've seen some instances like out here in Lamoille,
26:46we had an instance where some people had been feeding deer
26:50in the past, they were no longer feeding deer,
26:53but they were putting corn out for the turkeys
26:55that were out there.
26:56The deer were coming in inadvertently in the corn,
27:00but it was also bringing lions in.
27:02And a lot of the neighbors were starting to see lions,
27:05you know, up in their hay barns and things like that.
27:07And the kids are going out to throw hay to the horses,
27:10and they've got a lion 10 feet away from them up in,
27:13you know, and it's like, that's, that's scary.
27:16You know, sooner or later, we're going to end up getting
27:18an attack from, you know, from that.
27:20But if I could, Mark, I'll just have you sign and date
27:24both of these worms down here.
27:26OK, so am I admitting?
27:28You're just admitting to getting the official written
27:31warning from me.
27:32OK, OK.
27:33Well, I appreciate it, Mark.
27:34Thanks, Nick.
27:35Yep, thank you.
27:46Well, I think he's just laying up against the fence,
27:51kind of staying out of the wind, I guess.
27:54So I just had given him a warning for kicking the hay out
27:59on the driveway, told him not to do that anymore.
28:02If, you know, some of the hay falls out
28:04when he goes to feed his horse, that's different.
28:07He's not intentionally feeding the deer at that time.
28:10And he took it really well.
28:13And he understood the reasons behind why it is that we
28:16don't want people feeding wildlife.
28:18And he understands all that stuff.
28:33We're coming up on South Fork Reservoir,
28:35one of our most popular local recreation areas
28:39for fishing and boating.
28:40This time of year, our fish are starting to run
28:44like a salmon spawn, kind of.
28:48They run up the river right here, like our brown trout
28:50will come up the river and attempt to spawn.
28:52Some of our rainbows will still come up in here
28:56and spawn when they do.
28:57A lot of the guys who are particularly fond of fly fishing
29:01like to come to this specific spot because they can catch
29:05a lot of fish and they can catch a lot of big fish.
29:13I'm Jason Jackson.
29:15I'm a game warden.
29:15I've been a game warden in the state of Nevada for 16 years.
29:20I patrol in the northeastern corner of Elko County,
29:25outside of Elko, Nevada.
29:28I worked in mining for about nine years.
29:30Mining is very environmentally based,
29:32and I've always been a hunter and involved in fishing
29:36and outdoor stuff my entire life.
29:37But seeing the mining side of it,
29:40when the mine I worked for started to become its final stage,
29:44I decided to pursue a different career.
29:48As a game warden, you don't have to spend as much time
29:50behind the desk, and you get the opportunity
29:52to spend more time in the field, more time in our office,
29:55which is a four-wheel drive.
29:57And it's exciting because you never
29:59know what's going to be around the next corner.
30:05I'm watching two guys fish right now.
30:07I just want to make sure that I can see them both fishing.
30:12One guy just appears to be taking pictures of stuff.
30:15If you're on the riverside, it's
30:17required that you have a single barbless hook.
30:20People who fish with a spinner, say, for instance,
30:23have to cut off two of the three hooks
30:25that are on those spinners, and then pinch the barb down
30:28to make it legal.
30:29The restrictions we have on the riverside
30:31are because that is a spawning area, a spawning zone.
30:34Having a good day?
30:36I think I've got my wager.
30:39I think I'd have to jump in like this.
30:43Jump in just to catch a little old fish, or a little old fish.
30:46I'll show you, Victor.
30:47Did you see that one?
30:48I just saw the one you released, yeah.
30:50Nice fish, huh?
30:53Well, since you're taking a break,
30:55it's just a quick check your fishing license.
30:57What kind of fly are you using?
30:58That streamer.
31:00It's like a white streamer.
31:01It's barbless.
31:02OK.
31:04That picture did it done justice.
31:06Right?
31:07You fishing with this guy around the corner, or is he not?
31:09I'm not with him.
31:10I know he's fly fishing up there,
31:12but I met him up there in that Tacoma.
31:15Right on.
31:16Thanks, man.
31:16Appreciate it.
31:17Good luck in this particular stop.
31:20He's doing everything right.
31:25How's it going?
31:26Not too bad.
31:26How are you?
31:27I'm doing pretty well.
31:30It just doesn't get old, does it?
31:32No, it's really doesn't.
31:34It's my third one.
31:35I've been here.
31:35I've been here for a ton of time.
31:37That's beautiful.
31:38Right on.
31:39All right.
31:39What do you want to see?
31:40OK.
31:40Just check your fishing license.
31:42Make sure you've got a current and valid fishing license with you,
31:44and check to make sure you've got a single barbless on there.
31:49Outstanding.
31:51What's the biggest one you caught today so far?
31:54This one?
31:55Right on.
31:55Not measuring them, not weighing them.
31:57Just give them a kiss and kick them loose, huh?
32:00I'm not even kissing them.
32:01Yeah?
32:02The fish that we're seeing in here are tremendous.
32:04Size-wise, 18 to 24 is pretty average of this little stretch
32:10right through here.
32:11Well, I'll let you get back to catching, Jeff.
32:13Hey, thanks for doing such a great job.
32:16Appreciate it.
32:17For me, and checking people who are doing the right thing
32:20the right way is just as exhilarating, I guess,
32:24than it would be to issue a citation all day long.
32:28To see these guys appreciate, number one,
32:30what we're doing as a wildlife agency, and number two,
32:32appreciate what I do as a profession,
32:36and respect that makes my day.
32:38Those are not the people that I get to speak with or talk to
32:40every single day, and it just makes my job a lot easier
32:44when I deal with people like I just dealt with.
33:00In patrolling out here at South Fork Reservoir on the state
33:03park, our enforcement duties include inspection of vessels
33:07to make sure that they don't have anything that could be
33:09potentially detrimental to the environment
33:11or this reservoir specifically.
33:13Stay game, Marty.
33:14Can I talk to you guys for a second?
33:18How are you guys doing today?
33:20Pretty good.
33:20Pretty good?
33:21Do you mind putting on the shore real quick, please?
33:25I just want to check and make sure you have your life jacket.
33:28OK?
33:29One there and one there.
33:30Outstanding.
33:31So you're not required to register this vessel
33:34because it does not have a motor on it, OK?
33:36However, I usually do the invasive species figures.
33:40Correct.
33:41And I don't see one on here at this time?
33:42Yeah, I usually buy, no, I think it's seven of them.
33:47If I have a Gregor, this one, son's got another.
33:50You know about the law then?
33:51World jet skis, yeah.
33:52OK.
33:54When's the last time this was registered, this one?
33:58I see like a 1981 sticker on there.
34:02That's probably the last time my dad had an electric motor
34:06used out the marshes sometimes.
34:07OK.
34:08He never used electric motor on it, so I've never
34:10got it registered again.
34:12OK.
34:12So for you to put it on the water,
34:14you should have had an aquatic invasive species
34:17sticker for it?
34:18Yeah.
34:19Did you happen to purchase one for this year?
34:21I haven't this year, because I usually
34:22do them when I do the jet ski licenses.
34:25All together and online.
34:27OK, do we happen to have a driver's license with you today?
34:29Yeah.
34:30Let me go ahead and talk on here.
34:32OK.
34:32The AIS sticker majority of vessels are required to have
34:36is called our aquatic invasive species sticker.
34:39And basically, we have had over the years invasive species,
34:43such as a quagga mussel invade a lot of ordering
34:47and surrounding states, as well as the southern portion
34:49of our state.
34:50So we have inspections so we can look for these types
34:53of invasive species.
34:54Just hang tight for me one second, OK, Doyle?
35:00Reno 2410 on Elko.
35:03Can I get a 27, 29 Nevada when you're ready?
35:05It's going to be a Nevada vessel.
35:09The subject, I believe, is it was last registered in, like, 1981.
35:13So it may not even show up in our system.
35:172410, 104.
35:18It is coming back to the match.
35:2110 for Reno, I copy that.
35:23Code 4, I'll be 10-6.
35:24So our aquatic invasive species sticker that we have
35:28is designed to protect our waterways.
35:31And it's been since 1981, since he has.
35:34First things first, I'm going to give you driver's license
35:36and send your fishing license back to you.
35:39The aquatic invasive species sticker,
35:41you obviously knew about it because you told me
35:42you have five vessels.
35:43So I probably would have just.
35:45Six or seven.
35:45Six or seven, OK.
35:47They're getting too expensive, too.
35:49They are.
35:50They're starting to go up a little bit.
35:52But they're important to have, right?
35:54There's obviously a reason that we have them.
35:55So there's a couple of different violations,
35:59fail to purchase or having an expired one
36:01or never buying one at all, right?
36:03So I am citing you for fail to purchase a current AIS sticker.
36:09The minimum bale set by the court is $50,
36:11plus 65 administration assessment fee for $115.
36:15Are you serious?
36:15I am.
36:16Holy crap.
36:17It's pretty important that we, understandably,
36:20this couldn't hold a lot of water.
36:22But the potential is always there, right?
36:24So that's why we have them.
36:25We don't have our inspection station open yet.
36:26But I gave you until the 6th of May
36:28to take care of the citations.
36:30I need more stuff down at the bottom here.
36:33Right?
36:35Well, because you don't have an AIS sticker,
36:37I can't let you go back out on the water.
36:38So serious.
36:41Can I get one online?
36:43Yes, you can.
36:44Because I thought about that on the way out here.
36:46You can, as long as you have physical proof
36:48that you have one and you're waiting on the paperwork.
36:51Well, sir, I'm going to let you get back to fishing.
36:53Thanks for your time.
36:54Good luck to you, huh?
36:55You're out here.
36:56I'm going to hop in and go fishing with you.
37:05So today, as far as this time of year goes,
37:09it's probably a typical day.
37:12Maybe a little bit warmer than most days this time of year.
37:15Everybody's itching to go do something right now
37:17this time of year because of the fact it's getting nice
37:20and it's 53 degrees.
37:22So it's pretty nice to have the sunshine
37:25and an enjoyable day that we had today.
37:45There's some deer in somebody's yard right over here
37:48that we're going to go look at, it's just laying in the yard.
37:51You can see this, a buck and a doe right over here.
37:56I don't see any physical abnormalities.
37:58It would cause me to think that that deer is injured
38:01and can't get up.
38:03So you can tell that they're really pretty domesticated
38:06to people and that goes hand in hand with the feeding of them.
38:09I pulled up here with the truck and they're just laying there
38:11looking at me like, you know, it's another day.
38:15And that's not typical deer behavior.
38:19Hey, how's it going, Audrey?
38:21Hey, so I've got a possible mountain lion sighting
38:24in the Sundance Drive area.
38:26He said it was about 150 yards from his back deck.
38:30OK.
38:31I'll head that way here shortly.
38:34Awesome.
38:34Thanks, Vic.
38:35Yep, thank you.
38:36All right.
38:37Bye bye.
38:38And this is exactly the type of thing
38:40that we're dealing with here with the feeding of wildlife.
38:42The lions are going to follow the deer and the deer are coming
38:45in because people are out here feeding them.
38:50Scary because you've got little kids, you know,
38:52that are out at bus stops and we don't want to have to deal
38:55with a mountain lion attacking a kid at a bus stop.
38:59In the state of Nevada, it's illegal to feed deer.
39:01It congregates deer, brings them within closer contact
39:04with each other, so disease transmission between animals
39:07increases, brings predators down in.
39:09You know, the lions, coyotes, things like that
39:13will follow the deer around, and it just kind of creates
39:16more of a public safety problem.
39:18It's in an area that's pretty close to where I've had calls
39:22in the past for deer being fed.
39:26It's a likely place for a lion to be walking in this more
39:30natural stuff back here.
39:32But how habituated some of these, some of these things can be.
39:37They could be, you know, they could be walking right down
39:40the middle of, you know, where some of these apartments are.
39:49You can see all the snow that's on top of all these ones,
39:52and that one was turned up and there wasn't any snow on top
39:55of it.
39:56So it's almost like something had brushed down through here,
39:59but I'm not seeing any tracks.
40:00It could have been through here around the time
40:03that it was snowing, and all those tracks
40:06are going to be covered up now.
40:08A young juvenile that may have just got weaned off of the mom,
40:11they're going to have a track that's about that big, you know?
40:13They're not going to be super big like, you know,
40:16a big com would be, an older cat.
40:20Could be anywhere in this stuff.
40:22Being this close to the apartment complex, the gym,
40:25all these houses back over here, I mean,
40:27that's a huge public safety issue, you know?
40:30And it'd be nice to find this lion.
40:40A couple of spots here where it looks like could be a track,
40:43something going underneath that fence.
40:45And then there's a few old tracks out here on that road
40:47that I can see, but none of them that really look
40:50like a lion track.
40:52Lion tracks are really circular.
40:54A lot of times they walk more in a straight line.
40:56Coyotes and dogs will do that somewhat,
40:59but they'll walk a little bit more offset.
41:01The easiest way to tell a lion track
41:03is you won't find any claw marks inside the track
41:06when you're looking at it.
41:08I don't think that it's still here if it did come through,
41:11but if we get more calls on it here in the near future,
41:15then we know that we've got a problem,
41:17and it's something that we're going to have to deal with
41:19pretty rapidly.
41:20We'll definitely keep this one on the radar
41:23and try to get that lion out of here.
41:47I'm going to've caught your head out of here.
41:49And that I'm going to keep this one on the runway.
41:51I'm just going to break the TV before.
41:52I'm just going to call him on the runway.
41:53But the lion해서 tahiniok really felt a lot of
41:55picking the
41:55direction coming.
