00:00Josh Naylor is the other big name right now and everybody watching in the Pacific Northwest is
00:06saying do not touch him he's a Seattle Mariner we love him is he Seattle or is he the field
00:12I think I think he's got to stay in Seattle right you've now got Cal Raleigh on such a bargain
00:19contract and you have J-Rod under control for so long there's no excuse not to spend you you're
00:26gonna have J.P. Crawford coming off the books and then you've got the heir apparent ready to go at
00:32shortstop if you're worried about long-term and this won't even be a long long long-term deal it'll
00:37be four to five years this is the spot where you can spend and say hey fans look we're spending but
00:45you're still not clearing probably nine figures right I think it's going to be more 80 90 million
00:50for for Josh Naylor this is the spot where the Mariners can say hey see look we're we're big
00:56fish we're spending like stop complaining um and still not have to you know go whale whale hunting
01:01like that this is the perfect spot to do that so I think it's a no-brainer there especially with
01:07where the team is at and I think where you look at you know they traded even some of their depth
01:11there with Lockley are going you know in that Eugenio Suarez deal I think this is the clear-cut
01:18option there the only other thing that could make some sense but again this is just not really how
01:23they operate is if they said okay well you know what Naylor got a little bit expensive for us
01:28but just you know I guess the market drove up higher than we thought we'd rather just completely
01:33swing for the fences and go for Murakami you'll probably want to be on the west coast I don't
01:37see them doing that so it seems like it's either Naylor or a much lesser option and I think that's why
01:43you just go all in on Naylor. In terms of the next wave so Alonso is by himself in tier one
01:49I think Naylor is by himself in tier two after that you look at the first base market and there
01:54are some interesting names that we'll get to in a moment right Ryan O'Hearn, Carlos Santana,
01:59Luisa Rice, Goldschmidt, Reese Hoskins but give me the TLDR on Kazuma Okamoto and is he the third
02:07best first baseman on the market? Well so yeah I guess if we're considering Murakami third base but I
02:13think like there's an instance where he could probably be playing some first base I think he's obviously
02:16you know in that top tier but Okamoto I do think is is up there you know just because his skill set
02:23translates I think as easily as you know some of the other power hitters we've seen in a while like
02:30just kind of jumping over he's older he's more ready it's a well-rounded you know I think skill
02:35set there that'll play well is he gonna have the upside of Murakami? No but Okamoto is a guy that I just
02:42think he's not going to strike out a lot the swing decisions are good he pulls the ball in the air at a
02:46high clip the contact rates were above average he walked nearly as much as he struck out and the
02:51exit velocities are stronger than he gets credit for I think Okamoto is is a really I was gonna say
02:56underrated at first but now everyone's starting to say oh I like him more than more come stop like
03:01stop he might be better out of the gate maybe but you're gonna see two different realms contract wise
03:06that said Okamoto is maybe more built to be an above average bat in the big leagues right away
03:12and I think that's an important aspect of it between the swing decisions the bats the ball
03:15and and still some sneaky impact so I think he's a 50 60 million dollar player and maybe because
03:21of that mid market not being as deep as we thought maybe that drives the price up a little bit closer
03:28to 70 plus gotcha do you have off the top of your head like possible suitors for a guy like that
03:35services I feel like in that price range it should be pretty much anybody there should be anybody
03:39but you know how it goes uh like the pirates should be begging the pirates should be doing
03:46whatever they can they can afford that like stop um the Padres make make some sense if they can find
03:51the money and I think they can for a deal like that um it's it I think when you look at the Mariners
03:58that's a very interesting plan b there as well um and then again to your point I think just about any team
04:05should be interested in a player that could be potentially acquired for four years 60 million
04:10or five years a little bit more
04:12you
