00:01John, now a 3-2 defeat against high-flying Forest Green, despite a really spirited comeback

00:05from your side, what were your thoughts on that?

00:08A lot of emotions going through my head at the moment, anger at the way we gifted them

00:15the goals, disappointed, proud of the way we give our all, which can't fault the players

00:25for that, so I'm proud of them for that, but we've got to be smarter, you know our keeper

00:29hasn't made a save of any description, you know we've come off the pitch losing 3-2, you

00:38know it's well documented that they've got a lot more money than us to spend on their

00:44team, you wouldn't have known that today, I don't think there was much in the game to

00:48be honest, both teams got quite sloppy in the game and give possession away cheaply on the

00:56edge of the box, all credit to them, they finish better than us, and that was the reason why

01:02they won and we lost, but we've got to be better, we've got to cut off the silly mistakes and

01:09it's something that's played to us since I've been watching all the shots and since I've

01:13taken over, nearly every goal we've conceded has been down to an individual error, and you

01:20cut the individual errors out, and you carbonise yourself as a team, you can climateate them.

01:28Yeah, as you say, the individual errors, that was very much something well before your time

01:32and obviously you'd have seen that studying before you came in, and obviously that's something

01:36obviously you're going to be working on isn't it, because in the game generally there was

01:40nothing in it against, you know, a team near the top who have got a big budget.

01:43Well, the irony was that they scored the first goal when we were on top of the game, and they've

01:50scored the third goal when we were on top of the game, and that's very, very frustrating

01:55as a manager. But you have to work with these players, you know, the one thing I will say

02:01is, players don't go out to make mistakes on purpose, you know, better players make less

02:08mistakes. Well, I'm striving to be better, I'm striving to be a better manager. You know,

02:15I got a reaction in the second half, even though we went three down, which was disappointing,

02:19you know, another mistake. But we kept going there to the end, and you've seen that, and

02:24there'll be a lot of tired legs then there, but we've got to go again, and we've got to

02:27get, I've said this on Tuesday, we've got to get up to the slump, you know, when you're

02:34in an editor team, you know, yeah, it's difficult to get your ethos onto it. I think my ethos

02:42work-wise and effort-wise is already there with them, but the way I want to play the game,

02:47the way I want to pass the ball, I want it to be incisive, I don't want it to be passing

02:53for passing's sake, I don't want to pass around the back and get in risky areas. And that's,

02:59I've got that across to them, but we keep doing it, for no apparent reason, and that's

03:04what led to the first goal, and then, you know, that was ultimately a big, big body block to us,

03:11and then one became two, but another mistake, where we get strucked off the ball, and we've got to

03:21keep working hard, I know that the foundations of it, you know, it's not as if I've got nothing to play with,

03:32but, you know, I've got good players coming back as well, but I've got good players in there,

03:37which you've got to toughen them up a little bit, and educate them a little bit more,

03:43and cut off the mistakes, and I thought, Will Nightingale was absolutely outstanding today,

03:49and, you know, that would have been tough being out for so long to get to play right through,

03:55he did, and he'll only get better, and so, we've got to believe that we can turn this corner and get a win.

04:04So, obviously, it's quite well documented, it's quite a young group, obviously, Will's one of the more experienced,

04:09as you say, he's sort of come back and done well today, and sort of the first couple of weeks,

04:14you know, how have you sort of found it, obviously, they've been taking your messages on board,

04:17but I guess, obviously, it takes time, obviously, to bleed it in over time,

04:21but, yeah, sort of, how have you found it all, sort of, with the players so far?

04:24Yeah, I've really enjoyed it, I've enjoyed getting in amongst them, and, you know, planning for games,

04:33I'd enjoy it more if we were winning, but sometimes you have to go through a little bit of pain to get what you want,

04:39and fans, again, stayed with us, doing great today, as they're being set again,

04:46and, you know, we will have to bring reinforcements in,

04:52and some players will have to leave, but that's part of my job as a footballman now.

04:58And, as I say, you know, at 3-0, it can be easy for heads, you know, for players and fans to go down,

05:03but they didn't at all, did they? And, you know, fans stuck with it, and obviously, as I say,

05:07it was a really, obviously, it hurt still with the defeat, but it was a spirited comeback, wasn't it?

05:10Yeah, there's a way to lose, isn't there, I suppose, but it still hurts. It still hurts, because that was a game that we could have easily won,

05:18and, you know, they'll think they took the foot off the gas, at 3-0. It should be known, the foot was never on the gas.

05:27So, you know, that's...

05:32My overriding feeling about that game is that that's not a game that we lost.

05:39Yeah, and at half-time, what was it? Obviously, you made the triple change at half-time, with Keane, Will, and Kibban coming on,

05:46so what was sort of, and you say you got the reaction in the second half, so what was sort of the tweaks and the message?

05:51Well, I've asked Wade, sir. And, you know, the harsh reality is we've got to be better, you know, players are playing for the future, see?

05:59I'm playing for my future, you know, so I'm not going to take this lightly.

06:04It's not, you know, I'm not here for the jolly, you know, I'm here to do a job, and I've got to do a job, and that might mean a rebuild,

06:11but, you know, the first thing we've got to do is try and get away from them relegations, so if you keep losing, you won't.

06:17So that's something I've got to do.

06:19And as you say, obviously, you're in to do that job, and obviously, you know, you're sort of getting to know the players,

06:24and see the players more, sort of, you know, within games, aren't you? And then you can make those sort of judgements, as you see, too.

06:30You probably learn more on adversity than you do on success, so we'll see.

06:33Yeah, and just sort of, yeah, obviously, I'm guessing, obviously, despondent afterwards, despite the comeback,

06:38but sort of thoughts now, obviously, what shall in the league next, obviously, have a week to prepare for that?

06:43This game's gone, we'll learn from it when we study it, in the week, which we will, and then, you know, after Monday,

06:51we've got a game on Tuesday anyway, but then, after Monday, we'll focus all our attention onto Brockston.

06:57Yeah, and the Hampshire Senior Cup game on Tuesday, sort of how, I mean, not if you're going to give your team away,

07:03but you sort of, is that a chance to look at other players, or are you sort of keeping that open at the moment?
