00:00After a week that saw the team make two major trades to sell at the trade deadline,
00:04the Jets, they picked up their second win of the season,
00:06knocking off the Cleveland Browns 27-20 at MetLife Stadium.
00:10And joining me for the first time this season to talk about gangrene football
00:14following a win is the great host from ESPN Radio, my guy Ty Butler, joins me now.
00:19Ty, what's going on? It is good to see you smiling after a Jets win.
00:24Yo, how about this? A victory conversation between you and myself.
00:28What's going on, man? It feels like this is rare.
00:32As you said, first time all year. Not that the Jets win a whole lot,
00:35but it's cool to talk to you after a victory.
00:37Yeah, it is. It's nice to do something a little different for once.
00:39It's just nice to have something a little bit different.
00:41But let's get into it, Ty, because the Jets now have won back-to-back games,
00:45which might be a little shock to some people in their self.
00:48It is a two-game winning streak for the Jets.
00:50What did you like about what you saw from gangrene here in Week 10?
00:54I'm a man of fairness, so here's the deal.
00:59If we're going to criticize Aaron Glenn, and rightfully so,
01:02there's been a lot that he's done worthy of criticism,
01:06it's only fair to give him credit once the team performs.
01:10And I thought it was important for me to see the way that they came out today.
01:14You're at home against a bad team.
01:17And I know the Jets are bad,
01:18but you're at home against an awful offense off of a bye.
01:22So that means you get extra time to prepare.
01:24And you couple that with, as you just mentioned,
01:27a really busy week where not only did you make a couple of trades,
01:30but you traded two of your three best players.
01:32You traded two strong voices, leaders on this team.
01:35So for them to come out hungry, aggressive, dare I say, Dexter,
01:41resembling a team that appeared to be well-coached today,
01:45that was impressive, man.
01:47The defense that was a disaster to start the year was flying around today.
01:53Will McDonald, Sherwood, Jermaine Johnson getting up in there.
01:57And I understand, again, the Browns are not the greatest show on turf.
02:01That's a horrific offense.
02:03But the Jets still had to, you know, go out there and perform.
02:07They still had some business that they had to go out there
02:10and show that they were about being a good team on that side of the ball.
02:14And that's Aaron Glenn's calling card.
02:17So he deserves a lot of credit for how they looked in this game today,
02:21especially with how well the defense performed.
02:24So despite getting anemic quarterback play,
02:28they found a way to win a football game that is the ultimate testament
02:33to what the head coach is preaching because they're not punting on the season.
02:37They dealt two of their players, but they still want to win football games,
02:41and that's what they were able to do today.
02:43They were able to do that today.
02:44You definitely waxed poetic there a lot about the defense.
02:47You did not talk too much about the offense.
02:50You didn't use the word anemic there.
02:52I'm going to say this, and let's just be real as we move on.
02:55Justin Fields, he was terrible in the first half today.
02:59Jets' offense was nonexistent, Ty.
03:00Fields, three of six in the first half for six yards, six yards.
03:06With an interception, he also took two sacks.
03:09Now in the second half, he went three for five, 48 yards.
03:11That is a little bit better there.
03:14He also threw for a score.
03:16So my question here with this anemic offense,
03:18should Aaron Glenn continue to put Justin Fields out there
03:21as they're trying to compete and win games,
03:23even with the Jets winning here today in spite of him?
03:25Hold up.
03:27Let's just start with something that I find to be quite amusing.
03:30You just said he was better in the second half
03:34and then outlined him being better was three of five for 48 yards,
03:39and then you squeezed in there.
03:41He threw for a score, which tells you it wasn't just a bad half.
03:46He was awful in this game.
03:48Now Justin Fields deserves a lot of credit for what he did against Cincinnati
03:52in the face of all that adversity.
03:53Man, the owner comes out and destroys him.
03:55And I think that even non-Jet fans were rooting for him
03:59because what Woody Johnson did was so slimy.
04:02But you got to keep it a buck, man.
04:04He was awful in this game.
04:06And I thought, and the broadcast hinted at it too,
04:09that there was going to get to a point where you were going to have to pull him
04:12because we saw in Denver the Jets were hesitant to pull him
04:16in a game that they desperately should have done that in order to win that game.
04:20But as far as the quarterback question is concerned,
04:24you know we're not going to get any answers from Aaron Glenn.
04:27But I think you start him this Thursday against the Patriots
04:31because you're coming off of a win.
04:33But if you get to halftime, and it's similar to what we saw today,
04:37how do you not go to Tyrod Taylor?
04:40I just can't imagine that if you're a head coach trying to win football games
04:46to keep this team locked in and dialed in because there's still a second half
04:50of the season to go, that you're going to run Justin Fields out there
04:54especially because of how awful he's lucked in.
04:57Yeah, I think it was fair today to ask how did he stay in
05:00after the first half that he had.
05:02He threw for six yards.
05:03Six yards.
05:04Three of six for six yards.
05:06And Tyrod Taylor still didn't come in the second half.
05:08So how about that?
05:09In the first half he threw for six more yards than you and I did combined.
05:14That's pretty impressive.
05:15That's impressive.
05:17Now I'm not saying that Ty or I wanted to get out of there and throw something.
05:20I have no plan.
05:22I'm fine right here.
05:23I'm good with that.
05:24All right, moving on.
05:25With their second straight win, Ty, the Jets,
05:28they moved to fifth in the draft order according to Tankathon.
05:30And you know this, some fans are going to want the Jets
05:32to get the highest pick possible in next year's draft.
05:34They're going to want them to lose all the rest of their games.
05:37But that's not how coaches are wired.
05:39That's not how NFL players are wired to play out the rest of the season.
05:42So what are you keeping your eyes on with this Jets team
05:45over the final eight games of the season?
05:48The question is so perfect and appropriate
05:51because I literally just received a notification on my timeline.
05:55At Ty D. Butler, by the way.
05:57Someone hit me up with the who gives a crap about a win today.
06:02They probably just lost a number one pick.
06:05What a garbage win.
06:06Here's the deal, man.
06:07You still have eight games left to go in the season.
06:10And the two teams that are currently ahead of them,
06:12two of the four teams currently ahead of them,
06:14don't need quarterbacks.
06:16So, yeah, you can just sneeze at a win.
06:19But I would ask you,
06:20what good is having the number one overall pick?
06:23What good is having five first-round picks in the next two years
06:26if you don't trust the guys making those selections?
06:30Which, by the way, you end the season at 1-16,
06:33that means you don't have a head coach.
06:36You don't have a general manager.
06:38Because they were good enough for one win all year long.
06:42They put together a roster that,
06:45and it's not like they have the Giants'
06:47number one toughest schedule in football.
06:49They put together a roster that was only good enough
06:52to get one win on the season.
06:55So I understand that the knee-jerk reaction
06:58as you're looking for a quarterback is,
07:01yo, let's finish with the worst record possible.
07:03I get that part of it.
07:05But the context to getting the number one overall pick
07:08is important.
07:09And the context of that would be your head coach
07:12and your general manager in year one was an abomination.
07:16And I don't trust those guys going into an important draft
07:19to get that quarterback if they are that pathetic.
07:23That's fair.
07:23I think that's more than fair.
07:25We'll see how the Jets do.
07:26But for now, Jets fans, you can smile.
07:28They've won two games in a row.
07:29They've got the Patriots coming up on Thursday night.
07:32They will look to make it three games in a row.
07:33You see Ty there pumping his chest.
07:35That means he's back on board.
07:36The Jets are going to run the table.
07:38That's exactly how he feels now.
07:39Jets are going to run the table and win.
07:41Listen, don't look now.
07:43Don't look now, Dexter.
07:44They're only a couple of wins away from CBS
07:47throwing up that graphic in the hunt.
07:50In the hunt.
07:50In the hunt.
07:51Oh, man.
07:52That is the biggest tease you can ever have there.
07:54We will see.
07:55That is Ty Butler.
07:56Check him out on ESPN Radio.
07:58Also, check him out on the Ty Butler Show on YouTube.
08:01I hop on there sometimes to talk some New York sports with Ty.
08:04Appreciate you, Ty.
08:05And hopefully, Gang Green can keep winning for you.
08:07Absolutely, man.
08:09All the respect and love to you, brother.
