Can't help but laugh at how bad the grades are in Chris Perkins' midseason report card following the 2-7 start by Miami.
Transcript
00:00Let me give you the letter grades.
00:01Mid-season report card from Chris Perkins in the Sun Sentinel for the Dolphins.
00:06Would you like to guess the letter grade at mid-season for the quarterbacks, Crowder?
00:12And there's, well, I shouldn't say there's only been one
00:14because we had a little bit of Quinn Ewers, didn't we?
00:17Yes.
00:18And the end of the butt whooping.
00:21What would you think the letter grade for quarterbacks?
00:24C.
00:25And Solana?
00:27D.
00:28All right, Perkins gives them an F.
00:31Two off, 15 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 87.6 passer rating,
00:37who through crucial late-game interceptions and losses against New England and Buffalo
00:41is having perhaps his worst season in the NFL through nine games.
00:45He's three interceptions from his career worst of 14 when he played all 17 games.
00:51Tua ranked 23rd in the NFL in passer rating when play began Sunday.
00:56He's also nearing his career worst passer rating of 87.1, established his rookie season.
01:04Not having Hill is crushing.
01:06Not having tight end Darren Waller is also big.
01:10I agree.
01:13Running back.
01:14Letter grade for the running backs.
01:17Oh, that could be a C because nobody's doing nothing other than Devon.
01:21Solana?
01:22Solana?
01:23B-.
01:24B-.
01:24B- is what Perk gives them.
01:27Devon A. Chan, 106 carries, 606 yards, has been money.
01:31He's basically carrying the offense.
01:33And the third-year player will want to talk contract extension after the season.
01:37Oli Gordon, 40 carries, 122 yards, one touchdown, has been limited by his early season inability
01:44to do his job without the ball.
01:46Wide receiver Malik Washington, 12 carries, 74 yards, is third in rushing.
01:53That's an issue.
01:54Jalen Wright, nine carries, 28 yards, who the Dolphins traded up to acquire in 2024, has hardly
02:00played.
02:01That's also an issue.
02:04Yes.
02:05Wide receiver.
02:06Letter grade for wide receiver.
02:09Oh, D.
02:12Solana?
02:13D.
02:14D- is what he gives them.
02:17Jalen Waddell has been good, not great.
02:20Not having Hill is the story here.
02:22Malik Washington has been fairly productive relative to expectations.
02:26But among Nick Westbrook-Akine, D.
02:30Eskridge, and others, it's a sad crew.
02:34HN is the second-leading receiver.
02:37Waller and fellow tight ends Tanner Connor and Julian Hill have all fared better than wide
02:42receivers, also aside from Waddell and Tyreek Hill.
02:46Which brings me to the tight ends grade.
02:49Letter grade from Chris Perkins and the Sun Sentinel for the tight ends.
02:53F.
02:54Solana?
02:55No, he's going to bump up their grade because Darren Waller gave you like one or two good
03:00games.
03:00He played eight games.
03:02He had two games.
03:04Watch, watch.
03:04I speak perk.
03:06D+.
03:06F.
03:08Crowder was right.
03:11Waller has only played four games and he's been shut down for extended stretches in games.
03:16Julian Hill, Connor, Greg Dulsich.
03:19They've been decent relative to expectations, but Waller's injury has been a major setback.
03:24This position has been so bad that guard Daniel Brunskill has been a better tight end than a lot of the
03:32actual tight ends.
03:34That's the guy they keep making.
03:36The six offensive linemen.
03:38Yeah.
03:39Yeah.
03:40Offensive line.
03:41Letter grade offensive line.
03:44Super F.
03:44No, I'm going to say, I'm going to say D, D plus, D plus or C minus.
03:51I'm telling you, I speak perk here.
03:53You got Patrick Paul, who's been a constant on the left tackle.
03:57And then, you know, you found the ability to, to find that six offensive linemen and move
04:02the football.
04:03I'm going to say, plus your center has been consistent.
04:06I'm going to look if he's looking at Perk's article.
04:10It's a plus if you have to move a lineman to tight end.
04:14I haven't moved my hands.
04:16I haven't moved my hands.
04:17Have I?
04:18You don't see any sunset.
04:20You read this earlier.
04:21When did it come out?
04:21When was it released?
04:22I speak perk, man.
04:24I'm telling you, I talked to perk three times a week.
04:25I speak perk.
04:26I see you've got your open enrollment, uh, open.
04:29Just do a little research during the break.
04:32Yeah.
04:33Um, yeah.
04:34D minus is what perk gives, uh, the old line.
04:37He says four performance by rookie left guard, Jonas of I, Naya.
04:41And the second round pick rated as one of the league's worst guards by pro football.
04:45Focus is only the start of the problems.
04:47You're saying what?
04:48Like it was a good grade.
04:49It's a D minus.
04:52It's a D minus injuries to right guard, James Daniels.
04:58And Austin Jackson exposed the lack of depth left tackle.
05:01Patrick Paul has been really good in pass protection and center Aaron Brewer has been
05:06a grown man as expected.
05:08Pass protection has allowed 20 sacks tied for 10th most, uh, which isn't terrible, but
05:15it's not good.
05:16Defensive line.
05:20Oh, F they can't stop the run.
05:22They getting brooded out of there.
05:24Solana.
05:25Yeah, I would love to disagree, but it's going to be an F here.
05:28It's the most disappointing part of the team other than Tua.
05:31It is indeed an F.
05:33Yeah.
05:33They've been a major disappointment.
05:35Defensive tackle Zach Seeler leads the way.
05:38Of course, fellow defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, the rookie first round pick is on the
05:43same level of disappointment.
05:44Guys such as Benito Jones, Jordan Phillips, Matthew Butler have been okay considering they're
05:50all role players, but the defensive line leads the way in run stopping.
05:55And the Dolphins have been the worst run defense in the league for most of the season.
06:02Linebacker.
06:05Don't put an S on it.
06:07Jordan Brooks can play ball.
06:08No one else makes any plays.
06:10So maybe a C, maybe Jordan will pull them up to a C.
06:13But I don't know.
06:13Are they including edge rushers in this conversation?
06:17Because those guys are technically outside linebackers.
06:20Right, Crowder?
06:21Yeah.
06:22But hell, Jalen Phillips is missing sacks for game winning touchdowns.
06:26Bradley Chubb has one sack on a little bitty boy from Carolina.
06:29That's what I'm saying.
06:30Like when you think of linebackers, you think middle linebacker.
06:32No, they're including edge rusher.
06:34They are, right?
06:34Yeah.
06:35Then it's an F.
06:36It's not fair because Jordan Brooks has been balling.
06:39Arguably the best player on the Dolphins this season.
06:41But everybody else has sucked.
06:43D minus.
06:44D minus.
06:45He says, we're including the outside on ball linebackers crew.
06:49Bradley Chubb, Jalen Phillips, Chop Robinson, Matthew Judon.
06:52They've been a huge disappointment against the pass and the run.
06:56The inside off ball linebackers crew led by Jordan Brooks and Terrell Dodson,
07:01including KJ Britt, Willie Gay Jr.
07:04have shown well thanks to Brooks.
07:07Again, the run defense has been terrible.
07:08The linebackers must share the blame.
07:11The green cornerback F super F not listed D what he gives the cornerbacks a D penalties
07:24and busted coverages.
07:25I love that.
07:26We're surprised by the great grade of a D what he's insane.
07:33A D come on, man.
07:38Let's see.
07:39The injuries to Cater Kohu and Storm Duck have been a big part of the story, too.
07:44Rasul Douglas and Jack Jones have struggled at times but have been okay relative to expectations.
07:51These guys haven't been terrible despite having no interceptions.
07:57Listen, when you evaluate a group, you can't say, oh, well, he's injured.
08:02He's injured.
08:02No, it's the group.
08:03It's the group you put together knowing injuries happen.
08:07Yes, guys went down and got injured, but have some damn guys that can play, too.
08:11That's why we're mad about these D.
08:12How about safety?
08:14F.
08:16F.
08:17D.
08:18Oh, goodness.
08:19Hasn't made many impact plays, and fellow starters Ashton Davis and Ify Melifonwu have
08:25battled injuries and inconsistency.
08:27There's nothing much to see here, says Burke.
08:32Special teams.
08:34This is your guy, Riley Patterson.
08:36Special teams.
08:37Let's go.
08:39Hmm.
08:39They gave up, what, a punt return?
08:44B minus.
08:45Well, they gave up a punt return, but had a punt return or kicker return right before,
08:49to be fair.
08:50Okay, C, C minus.
08:52They had the punt return, but there's been the critical.
08:57Lack of long field goals.
08:58No.
08:59There's been the critical running into the kicker penalties, which will probably knock
09:03this down, but that's more on Mike McDaniel than personnel.
09:06I'm going to say A plus.
09:07That has nothing to do with Riley Patterson?
09:12That has all to do with Riley Patterson.
09:14A plus.
09:15D.
09:16What?
09:17They've allowed a 90-yard game-winning touchdown return, missed a 35-yard field goal attempt,
09:24have made two crucial penalties, running into the punter, roughing the punter, losing
09:29Jason Sanders hurt, but these guys have struggled overall.
09:34Yeah.
09:36Coaching.
09:38F.
09:40D.
09:45F.
09:45F.
09:46Emphatic.
09:46McDaniel has done his worst job since taking over in 2022.
09:50Penalties, mental errors, blown coverages, operational issues, getting plays to the huddle on time,
09:58getting players in the huddle on time, delay of game.
10:01They've haunted the Dolphins once again.
10:03Players haven't quit, but you can question whether they're still listening to McDaniel.
10:08Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver hasn't been any good.
10:12Offensive coordinator Frank Smith hasn't been good.
10:14And special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman hasn't been good.
10:21Overall letter grade for the Miami Dolphins at the midway point of the season.
10:25F.
10:26F.
10:32Solana?
10:34F.
10:35Jimmy?
10:36A plus.
10:37It is indeed an F.
10:40This team is a disaster.
10:42This season is a disaster.
10:44The rebuild that started in 2019 has failed.
10:48The win now mentality that took over in 2022 has failed.
10:52And the win with youth and draftees movement that started this season is failing.
10:57A much-needed rebuild is coming in 2026.
11:02The first sentence of the coaching breakdown says it all.
11:07We don't know our plays.
11:08We don't know our calls.
11:09We don't know what to do.
11:10We don't know who's in the game.
11:11We don't know what we're supposed to do when we're in the game.
11:13Come on, man.
11:14That is embarrassing.
11:16So the only position group to not get a D or an F at the midseason report card is the running backs.
11:24No, it's Devon A. Chan.
11:26Coincidentally, he's a running back.
11:27Yeah, that's exactly right.
11:31All right.
11:31There you go.
11:32That is your midseason report card.
