The Trinidad & Tobago National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP) is denying a gas tank explosion in Bon Accord Tobago last Sunday, but instead says the regulator used was not the one recommended by NP and a leak was present in one of the pipes. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00In a release, MP stated on October 25th, MP's safety personnel were informed by the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services of an incident at a home in Bonacord, Tobago, and that the findings were as follows.
00:14The MP LPG gas cylinders did not explode and was found to be intact, with no sign of being affected by fire or intense heat. The MP LPG gas cylinder was found to be still filled with LPG.
00:31Neither the MP LPG gas cylinder regulator nor the hose, as determined by a thorough soapy water test conducted, presented any leaks. A soapy water test was also conducted on the ring stove used in the kitchen, and it was determined that a leak was present on one of the pipes.
00:51The regulator used was not the type recommended by MP.
00:55In light of this incident, MP stated that it wished to reconfirm its commitment to the safety of LPG users and urged the customers to conduct the recommended safety checks when engaging with LPG cylinders,
01:11as well as only use equipment which meet the approved standard 1 to 5 PSI hoses and regulators bearing the codes EN12864 or EN16129.
01:27MP said the company remains available to address concerns regarding LPG cylinders and reminds the customers to report issues and complaints to 800-NPMC and 686-NPMC WhatsApp for reporting issues, thereby enabling the company to treat with these incidents.
01:51MP's MP's statement comes on the heels of LPG explosion at the home of Tameka Cox. Cox said her daughter was cooking last Sunday, shortly before 1 p.m., when an explosion was heard in the kitchen, causing a blaze to the gas tank.
02:08The family stated their home was filled with smoke, and they were able to extinguish the fire.
