00:03Today we're talking about the new Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-in Hybrid,

00:07which was introduced as a competitor to the BYD Shark 6

00:10and first attracted attention at the Shanghai Auto Show.

00:16Surprisingly, it is Nissan that is taking the first major step

00:19towards electrified pickup trucks with this model.

00:23The Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-in Hybrid is the first model of its kind from Nissan.

00:28A five-seater versatile pickup developed under the rugged tech concept.

00:35It was designed in the Nissan studio in Shanghai,

00:39with the design team taking inspiration from the classic D21 hardbody of the 1980s,

00:44particularly the three-part air intake in the hood,

00:47which has been given a modern interpretation here with LEDs.

00:52Visually, it fits well into the design language of modern plug-in hybrid pickups from China,

00:57without getting lost in the crowd.

01:00The vehicle is powered by a 1.5L turbo gasoline engine

01:04combined with a powerful electric motor integrated into the transmission.

01:09Unlike the BYD Shark 6, which uses two electric motors,

01:13Nissan relies on a different technical solution here.

01:16The system delivers a total of 300 kilowatts of power and up to 800 newton-m of torque.

01:22These are impressive figures that show the direction in which modern pickup trucks are developing.

01:29The all-electric range is stated at up to 135 kilometers in China,

01:34and this is unlikely to change much in export markets.

01:37While the system output is somewhat lower than the BYD Shark 6,

01:44which has 321 kilowatts and 650 newton-m,

01:48the Nissan offers a longer electric range.

01:52The Shark 6 accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.7 seconds.

01:58No information on the Nissan's acceleration is currently available.

02:03A significant technical difference lies in the chassis.

02:07The Nissan Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid has a 5-link rear axle with a rigid axle,

02:12which promises better articulation and off-road capability.

02:16In addition, an intelligent all-wheel drive system with electronic torque distribution control

02:22and an electromechanical limited slip differential on the rear axle

02:26ensure improved traction on off-road terrain.

02:30Four driving modes are available.

02:32Hybrid, all-electric, performance, and snow.

02:37Inside, the car boasts a solid range of technology that's now typical of Chinese vehicles.

02:42This includes a 10-inch digital driver display

02:45and a 14.6-inch central infotainment display.

02:59It is unclear whether this feature will also be offered in Australia.

03:05Other features include roof rails, an electrically retractable cargo area cover,

03:10and a vehicle-to-load connector,

03:12which allows household appliances with up to 6 kilowatts of power

03:15to be powered directly from the battery.

03:19The Nissan Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid was developed jointly with Django Nissan

03:26and will initially go on sale in China at the end of 2025.

03:30Although export markets have already been confirmed,

03:33a launch in Australia remains to be seen.

03:35Given the interest in such vehicles there, a market launch is conceivable.
