00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:15Today, it's all about the exclusive and strictly limited Honda Civic Type R Best Lab,
00:19with which Honda Auto Italia is celebrating the end of the sales era of the sporty compact model in Europe.
00:25This special edition is a tribute to the decades-long heritage of the Type R models,
00:31which is closely linked to Honda's racing spirit.
00:35The Best Lab edition is based on the 6th generation of the Civic Type R,
00:39which is not only the most powerful, but also the most dynamic and emotional Civic ever.
00:46The basis is the 11th generation Civic,
00:48whose development is based on the human-centric approach to dynamics, design and everyday usability.
00:53Honda engineers have refined every aspect,
01:00including a functional bonnet ventilation and a new rear diffuser,
01:03both of which have been aerodynamically optimized and give the vehicle a striking sporty design.
01:10Compared to the Civic EH-IV, the Type R is 0.8 cm lower and 9 cm wider.
01:16Compared to the previous generation,
01:19the Type R is lowered by 1.9 cm and wider by 1.5 cm.
01:25The Type R is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 2L,
01:30which has been revised using motorsport-related technologies.
01:34The result?
01:35Peak output of 330 hp and maximum torque of 420 Nm.
01:40The sprint from 0 to 100 km per hour takes just 5.4 seconds.
01:47The top speed is an impressive 275 km per hour.
01:52This is made possible by a manual 6-speed transmission with a particularly lightweight flywheel.
01:5818% lighter than before, which results in a 25% reduction in inertia.
02:03The REF matching system with auto-blip function ensures smooth gear changes,
02:10especially when shifting down to first gear.
02:13Particular attention is paid to driving dynamics.
02:17The wheelbase has grown by 3.5 cm compared to its predecessor.
02:21The rear track has been significantly widened,
02:24which is particularly noticeable on winding roads.
02:28The front double-axle suspension reduces the influence of drive torque on the steering wheel,
02:32while the rear multi-link suspension has been carried over from the base model and optimized.
02:39The body is 15% stiffer than its predecessor,
02:42also thanks to the strategic use of lightweight materials.
02:47For example, an aluminum bonnet that is 43% lighter and a resin tailgate that is 20% lighter.
02:56Overall, the weight-to-power ratio is one of the best in this vehicle class.
03:00The tires are from Michelin.
03:03More precisely, these are specially developed Pilot Sport 4S in the Dimension 26530R19,
03:11which are mounted on matte black alloy wheels with inverted rim edges.
03:16The new shape and increased rigidity of the rims stabilize the contact with the ground when cornering.
03:21A special rubber compound ensures grip, even under extreme conditions,
03:28while Michelin's C3M manufacturing technology optimizes grip on dry roads without compromising on wetness or wear.
03:38The vehicle has been aerodynamically perfected with the help of computer-aided flow simulations.
03:43The aim was to achieve lower air resistance,
03:47more controlled airflow and improved pressure distribution around the body.
03:53This is achieved, among other things, by the air ducts integrated behind the front wheels,
03:58sculpted side skirts and a modified rear diffuser.
04:01The rear spoiler sits lower and wider on die-cast aluminium supports
04:07and has been repositioned for more downforce without impairing rear visibility.
04:14The front bumper with an extended and wider radiator opening improves engine cooling,
04:19with the air intakes additionally directing air to the brakes.
04:21The new intercooler benefits from the 10% larger opening in the lower grille area,
04:29while the integrated bonnet opening actively contributes to downforce.
04:35The interior is dominated by a sporty ambience with red accents,
04:39red carpet upholstery and deep black Alcantara seats.
04:44The front sport seats are lighter and, thanks to their shape,
04:48offer optimum support for the hips for maximum comfort and support.
04:51Whether on the racetrack or in everyday life.
04:55The seating position has been lowered by 0.8 cm compared to its predecessor,
05:00which, together with the lower center of gravity,
05:03results in a more intense driving experience.
05:06Despite its sporty design, the Civic Type R remains practical and comfortable.
05:11The cockpit has been designed for maximum concentration and clarity.
05:16In plus mode, the digital instrument cluster offers a reduced display
05:19suitable for the racetrack with a central tachometer, speedometer and g-force display.
05:26The individual function allows personal configuration of the display as well as the driving behavior,
05:31for example by adjusting the steering and accelerator pedal settings.
05:36The driver is supported in this by the Honda Locker app,
05:39which records and analyzes data in order to improve driving performance.
05:43Safety has also been comprehensively optimized.
05:48The body structure protects with reinforced frame rings at the front and rear as well as structural cross members.
05:54A total of 10 airbags are installed,
05:56including knee airbags at the front and side airbags for the rear seats.
05:59New elements such as energy-absorbing crash plates at the front contribute to pedestrian safety.
06:07In terms of technology, Honda relies on its Honda Sensing Driver Assistance System,
06:11which is fully integrated into the Civic Type Air.
06:15New features include front and rear sensors that can also detect glass and walls,
06:20as well as a front camera with a 100-degrees field of view that features improved object recognition.
06:25A high-speed processor allows for more precise recognition of traffic signs,
06:31lane markings, cyclists and pedestrians, both day and night.
06:36The limited-edition Best Lab stands out with special carbon components.
06:41The spoiler, center console trim and door sills are made of real carbon fiber composite.
06:48The Best Lab emblem is also attached to the boot.
06:50Buyers of this special edition will receive a gift set with a numbered silver badge from 1 to 99 and a Honda carbon key ring.
07:01The price of this special edition is not officially available,
07:04but when compared to similar special models in this class,
07:07it can be assumed that it will cost around €60,000 to €1,000.
07:13This corresponds to the high standards that Honda sets for the workmanship,
07:17performance and exclusivity of this special edition.
07:19The Honda Civic Type R-Best Lab not only marks the end of an era,
07:26but also the culmination of decades of development.
07:30In compromising, powerful and consistently designed for the driving experience.
07:35Anyone who wants to get the most out of a front-wheel drive sports car
07:39will find a worthy collector's item with racing jeans here.
