00:00Welcome to the video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog, where we will introduce you to
00:10the new Honda Prelude, which will also be coming to Europe in early 2026 and will provide driving
00:16pleasure with a very special transmission technology. The sports car world can rejoice,
00:24because the new Prelude will expand the previously manageable selection of affordable coupes and
00:28will compete with the Toyota GR86 in the first half of 2026, if the latter is still available at that
00:34time. Particularly exciting is the innovative transmission concept, which Honda describes
00:42with the term DL shift. This is a transmission function that is supposed to simulate the sound
00:48and feel of responsive gear changes, which benefits the sporty driving experience in the Prelude.
00:53Honda has not yet revealed the exact technology behind it, but some assumptions can already be
01:00made. Honda is relying on a hybrid drive for the new Prelude, which is very likely based on the
01:07EHIV unit from the current Civic. It combines a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric
01:15motor. Depending on the driving situation, the petrol engine acts as a generator, supports the electric
01:21motor or drives the wheels directly. There will probably be no conventional automatic transmission
01:27as we know it. However, the simulated gear changes should be noticeable and particularly intensive with
01:34the DL shift function. A button in the center tunnel provides evidence of this, which could make the
01:40driving experience seem even sportier. This could perhaps be comparable to the Hyundai IONIQ 5N,
01:47although Honda could implement this effect in a semi-mechanical solution, which would be unique
01:52to date. This would fit perfectly with the Prelude's tradition of introducing significant technical
01:59innovations with each generation. The second generation of the Prelude was already the first
02:05Japanese production car with an anti-lock braking system and the next generation was the first car in
02:09the world to introduce rear axle steering. In terms of performance, the new Prelude will probably be
02:16significantly higher than the system output of the Civic EV, which offers 184 horsepower.
02:24Experts assume that the Prelude will have more than 200 horsepower, which, combined with an estimated
02:29weight of less than one and a half tons, should ensure excellent driving performance.
02:35The new Honda Prelude thus fits perfectly into the league of sporty and agile coupes.
02:40Incidentally, it is not the first hybrid coupe from Honda. The inside from 1999 and the CRZ from 2010 were already
02:50vehicles of this concept. Visually, the new Prelude remains close to the study and presents itself in a
02:57sporty production body. With a length of around 4.3 meters, the new coupe has the perfect proportions for
03:05agile and dynamic handling. In terms of dimensions and performance, the Prelude is therefore in the same
03:13class as the Toyota J, without however overlapping with more powerful models such as the new Nissan set,
03:19which will be available in Switzerland from April 2025. Honda has so far remained tight-lipped about the price.
03:26Experts estimate the base price of the new Prelude to be between 45,000 and almost 50,000 Swiss francs,
03:35which equates to around 42,000 to 47,000 euros.
03:42This would make the Honda Prelude an attractive offer in the affordable sports car segment.
