00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today we're talking about an exciting comeback, the new Nissan LEAF.
00:07Although Nissan discontinued production of the LEAF a little over a year ago,
00:12the electric icon is now celebrating its return, albeit in a completely new form.
00:18The LEAF, which was introduced in 2010 as one of the first electric cars for the mass market,
00:23was previously known as a compact hatchback.
00:25But now Nissan is following the SUV trend and the LEAF is becoming a modern crossover.
00:32This new chapter begins with the LEAF Insights video series,
00:36in which Nissan provides initial insights into the design and technology.
00:41Including a new image showing the revised electric vehicle.
00:45The LEAF is more than just a new model.
00:48It is also the start of a small electric offensive by the Japanese manufacturer.
00:52Nissan can look back on over 700,000 units sold worldwide,
00:58with a total of more than 28 billion kilometers driven.
01:03This extensive knowledge has been incorporated into the development of the new generation.
01:08Richard Candler, Nissan's Global Product Strategy Director,
01:12emphasizes the importance of the LEAF as one of the company's flagship models.
01:15The new LEAF is based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMFEV platform,
01:22which is also used in the Nissan Aria and the upcoming electric Nissan Juke.
01:28It features a number of improvements.
01:32Particularly noticeable are the improved aerodynamics,
01:35with a drag coefficient of 0.25 compared to 0.820 for the previous hatchback.
01:40This should help to achieve a maximum range of up to 600 kilometers.
01:49Features include an electrochromatic panoramic roof with thermal protection function,
01:54which no longer requires conventional curtains and does not restrict headroom in the rear.
01:57In terms of technology, the LEAF will be brought right up to date.
02:05With the integration of modern onboard systems via Google's car and connected services
02:09as well as advanced driver assistance systems,
02:11the new model also offers a major digital upgrade.
02:17The full unveiling is set for this June, ahead of the production state in Thunderland, UK.
02:22What the pricing and final specifications will be like remains to be seen.
02:28One thing is certain, however, the new Nissan LEAF is set to rewrite the success story.

02:39LEAF is an icon for us.
02:42It's one of our core heartbeat models.
02:44We've sold around 700,000 LEAFs since 2010,
02:49over 28 billion collaborators covered by our customers.
02:54So we really have substantial real-world insight into the customer,
02:58understanding their needs and understanding how those needs have evolved
03:01since the early days of LEAF until now.
03:03We have a long-established track record about durability and safety with LEAF
03:12and we knew this was really a foundation for the next generation.
03:18We wanted this to be a truly credible alternative to a combustion car.
03:23To do this, we focused on three key things.
03:26The first one was about balancing the emotional and rational appeal,
03:29ensuring the car looks sleek and bold while meeting the real-world needs of families.
03:34The second point was around supporting long-distance travel,
03:37allowing users to confidently take a holiday journey of 300 to 500 kilometers between stops,
03:43ensuring impressive highway speed and efficiency.
03:47The third important area was around bringing easy and seamless charging.
03:52We know that the average refueling stop is around 14 minutes
03:55and in that time we can add over 250 kilometers of charge
03:58with seamless plug-and-charge capability.
04:05We imagine the LEAF as a crossover creating distinct personality,
04:09high-tech feel and added advanced features.
04:13This is the most efficient car we've ever made with a drag coefficient of 0.26.
04:18The front pressure, sweep profile, wheel design and active glue shutter all contribute to this.
04:29It all starts at the front.
04:32The point where air frustrate comes into contact with the car.
04:38Not only is it weak,
04:39the Fissure also demonstrates strength and premiumness along with a sense of ease.
04:43Even the panoramic glass LEAF contribute to exceptional aerodynamics.
04:52It allows us to reduce the vehicle height at the critical air detachment point by 12 millimeters
04:56while maintaining the head L inside cuts of the Aang functionality.
05:05To prioritize the aerodynamics,
05:07we spend a lot of time on the fenders to get light and create beauty in the body surfacing.
05:13The all-new LEAF is not just about being options.
