00:04where today we're talking about the fascinating Mach 1 Electric Skateboard,
00:08which is like a miniature Formula 1 car for your feet.
00:13Even if skateboards aren't everyone's cup of tea,
00:16I personally tend to be the type who finds it difficult to stay on my feet.
00:19You can still recognize an exceptional product when you see it.
00:25The Mach comes from Radium Performance in Melbourne, Australia,
00:28who describe themselves as manufacturers of next-level electric skateboards.
00:34In a market full of alternatives, this is a bold statement,
00:38but on closer inspection it turns out to be quite accurate.
00:43Visually, the Mach 1 is quite inconspicuous.
00:46It looks like a typical skateboard, a bread and butter on four wheels.
00:51But the materials and technologies used set it apart from the norm.
00:54According to Radium, the chassis consists of a monocoque construction,
01:00inspired by Formula 1.
01:02The load-bearing carbon fiber tub is bolted directly to the suspension,
01:06which saves weight.
01:08While it's not real Formula 1 technology,
01:11the inspiration is unmistakable.
01:12A 10-inch deck made of carbon fiber composite material sits on the chassis,
01:19laminated to a polyurethane edge.
01:22The deck bends by just one kilogram.
01:27The images show a sophisticated black and red look,
01:30with the carbon fiber structure still visible.
01:33The deck is also replaceable.
01:36It can be replaced at will by removing eight screws.
01:40The innovative suspension system is located on the underside of the Mach 1.
01:46Unlike conventional skateboards,
01:48Radium uses single-joint swing arms,
01:51which is probably a first for electric skateboards.
01:53The wheels are airless and designed to provide tighter turning radii
01:58and greater stability at high speeds.
02:01This, too, is reminiscent of technology from Formula 1,
02:05at least according to the radio.
02:08The steering system, called Radium Torque Steering,
02:11relies on torque vectoring and is supposedly a first in the skateboarding world.
02:15Each motor unit is controlled independently,
02:20so that more driver braking force is applied to the wheel
02:23that bears the most weight during the turn, as needed.
02:28This is intended to increase traction
02:30and enable faster acceleration out of corners.
02:34Numerous settings and driving modes can be adjusted
02:37even while riding using the Mach 1 app.
02:41The motors themselves are specially developed high-performance drives
02:44that are described as extremely robust.
02:47They operate at 150 amps and propel the Mach 1
02:51to a top speed of up to 72 km per hour.
02:56The sprint from 0 to 48 km per hour takes less than 3 seconds,
03:01provided the remote control is operated skillfully.
03:05The built-in battery with a capacity of 1089 watt-hours
03:09enables a range of around 48 km.
03:14Using the included 12-amp charger,
03:17the battery can be recharged to 90% in around 2 hours.
03:23The Mach is still relatively new on the market,
03:26having been first introduced last year.
03:30The original price was around €4,200,
03:33but has since been reduced to around €3,000.
03:36While it's quite expensive compared to other products in this segment,
03:43you'd be hard-pressed to find another electric skateboard
03:45that feels like a custom-built Formula 1 car for your feet.
