00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today we're talking about the Ford Puma General E,
00:06the new electric version of Ford's popular crossover model.
00:10We'll take a close look at all the details, compare it with the competition,
00:14and of course also take a look at the equipment, prices, and charging behavior.
00:19The Ford Puma GNE is the all-electric version of the combustion engine-powered Ford Puma,
00:25which has been in production since 2019.
00:27Technically, it's based on the platform of the now-discontinued Ford Fiesta
00:32and is essentially an SUV interpretation of this small car.
00:37This quickly becomes clear.
00:40The Puma General E uses an architecture originally designed for combustion engines,
00:44which is why it can be assumed that the battery modules were housed wherever space was available.
00:50With a length of around 4.2 meters, the Puma General E still belongs to the small car class.
00:56However, its height of just under 1.6 meters makes it clearly look like a crossover.
01:02A major advantage of the Puma GNE is its trunk.
01:06Without the additional compartment under the loading floor, called the Gigabox by Ford,
01:11the cargo space has a capacity of around 520 L.
01:15Including this compartment, the capacity is even around 580 liters.
01:18However, when loaded high, the storage volume is in line with many of its competitors.
01:24The significantly longer L-Rock, for example, offers more space.
01:28The Puma General also has a so-called FRUNC, a front storage compartment with a volume of 43 liters,
01:36ideal for charging cables or smaller items.
01:40The drive system uses an electric motor on the front axle, which delivers 169 horsepower.
01:48Ford has not yet disclosed which type of motor is installed.
01:51The system is powered by a battery with a usable capacity of 43 kWh based on NMC chemistry.
02:01Combined with very economical power consumption of just 13.1 kWh per 100 kilometers,
02:08this results in a range of around 380 kilometers.
02:11A decent figure for a vehicle of this size class with a relatively small battery.
02:18Regarding charging times, Ford has not yet provided precise data for AC charging.
02:24However, charging power of up to 100 kW is possible using direct current.
02:30The standard charging process should be completed in around 23 minutes.
02:35This translates to a charging speed of approximately 1.3 kWh per minute.
02:41This roughly corresponds to a range recharge of over 11 kilometers per minute.
02:46A remarkable figure in the B segment.
02:50The Puma Gene E is now configurable, and specific price lists exist.
02:55The basic Gene trim starts at around 37,000 euros according to the list price.
03:01The higher-end premium trim is around 39,000 euros.
03:05On March 20th, the promotional prices were around 36,500 euros and just under 39,000 euros, respectively.
03:15Since then, they have dropped noticeably.
03:17In April, the starting price is just under 35,000 euros.
03:22The premium Vion costs around 37,000 euros.
03:25Standard equipment on the General E variant includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, a rain sensor,
03:34electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera,
03:40and a 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster.
03:43And a 12-inch touchscreen with integrated navigation and Amazon Alexa voice control.
03:51Also included are wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, inductive smartphone charging, ambient lighting, automatic climate control,
04:00lane departure warning, and a collision avoidance system.
04:03The navigation system is cloud-based.
04:08However, the connection to the cloud is only free for 12 months.
04:12After that, fees apply.
04:15However, this does not mean that the navigation becomes unusable.
04:18You simply lose additional features such as real-time traffic updates or information on the availability of charging stations.
04:25A Ford spokesperson explained this when asked.
04:29The premium trim level, for an additional charge of approximately 2,500 euros,
04:34offers additional features such as 18-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, a Bang & Olufsen sound system,
04:42a keyless entry system, a sensor-controlled tailgate, and higher-quality seat upholstery.
04:48Three additional equipment packages are available.
04:50The winter package, for approximately 550 euros, includes a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and a heated windshield.
05:00The assistance package costs over 1,200 euros for the general version, while the premium trim costs around 1,000 euros.
05:08The comfort package is already included in the premium version.
05:11Otherwise, it costs around 600 euros.
05:13Optional extras include a glass sunroof, a two-toned paint job, a removable trailer hitch, and larger rims up to 19 inches.
05:24The striking yellow paint job is already included in the base price.
05:29Colors such as white, black, silver, blue, or red incur an additional charge.
05:33A heat pump is not mentioned in the price list, which could be a disadvantage, especially in winter, given the small battery size and fuel economy.
05:43In our opinion, the basic equipment combined with the winter package would be a sensible choice.
05:51The yellow paint job is also impressive at no additional cost.
05:56The bottom line is that for around 36,000 euros, you certainly won't get a perfect electric car.
06:03Compromises are inevitable.
06:04But as a city car or second car, the Ford Puma GNE is definitely an interesting option.
06:13As always, you'll find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video description.
