00:23that was specially developed to set efficiency records. The vehicle weighs just 1,000 kg
00:29and will celebrate its premiere at the Retromobile Classic Car Fair from 5 to the 9th of February
00:352025. Renault combines a retro look with state-of-the-art by-wire technology and consistent
00:40lightweight construction with the Philante Record. But the concept car is not just intended
00:46for presentation at trade fairs. It is set to set range records in the first half of the year.
00:52The single-seater is 5.112 meters long, but at just 1.7 meters wide it is particularly narrow.
01:00The design was inspired by both aviation and the brand's own history.
01:07At the heart of the vehicle is a battery with a capacity of 87 kWh, which accounts for the
01:13largest share of the unladen weight at 600 kg. Renault uses cell-to-pack technology and a carbon
01:21body to optimize weight. The interior is also consistently designed for efficiency, from the
01:29canvas seat to the specially developed 19-inch Michelin tires. The visual appearance is by
01:37no means plain. The blue-tinted windows and the ultraviolet blue bodywork create a special
01:43appearance. The color varies between blue and violet depending on the incidence of light and
01:50as a homage to the Renault 40CV, which was used as a record-breaking vehicle back in 1925.
01:56Other design elements of the Philante Card are based on legendary models of the brand.
02:00These include the nervous part records from 1934 and the Philante from 1956.
02:09Particularly striking are the wheels that are separate from the body, the round headlights and
02:13and the distinctive radiator grille. The seat adjustment belt is also a reference to classic
02:20Renault racing cars. To minimize air resistance, Renault uses high, narrow tires that were specially
02:27developed for this vehicle by Michaela. According to Renault, the choice of tires can affect the range by
02:34up to 20%. The overall shape of the car also shows the influence of aviation. The cockpit dome is reminiscent
02:44of the cockpit of a fighter jet, while the aerodynamic lines of the body are based on high-performance aircraft.
02:51Visible screws further emphasize the focus on lightweight construction.
02:56The interior is just as innovative as the exterior.
02:58The canvas seat evokes memories of the early Citroen 2CV, but has been optimized with a modern carbon structure for additional stability.
03:10All major controls are integrated into a 3D-printed structure, while control is via drive-by-wire technology.
03:19This means that steering, braking and acceleration are transmitted entirely electronically.
03:23A special detail is the steering wheel, which is attached to the cockpit dome and pivots upwards when getting in.
03:33In the center of the steering wheel is a screen that displays, among other things, speed and range.
03:41Renault has not yet provided any official information about the range or top speed of the Thalante record.
03:48However, the manufacturer points to the impressive performance of its historical role models.
03:54The Renault 40CV set several records in 1925, including over 3 hours for 500 km and 500 miles.
04:04A year later, in 1926, the vehicle covered 4,167 km in 24 hours at an average speed of 173.6 km per hour.
04:14The record's successor from 1934 surpassed these values and set 9 international and 3 world records.
04:26Among other things, it covered 8,037 km in 48 hours at an average speed of 167.4 km per hour.
04:34The historical namesake of the current study, the Renault Filante, reached a top speed of 308.85 km per hour over a distance of 5 km in 156 on the Bonneville salt marshes.
