00:00Marion County Prosecutor Announces New Charges Against Mark Sanchez
00:04A well-known face in the world of football is now at the center of a serious legal situation.
00:10And it all started with a parking dispute.
00:13Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez is facing a felony battery charge in Indianapolis.
00:20Officials say a fight over a parking space turned violent, leaving one man seriously hurt and Sanchez in the hospital with stab wounds.
00:28Sanchez, 38, was in town to cover Sunday's Raiders-Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
00:34But by Monday, he was facing a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury, on top of misdemeanor charges from the same event.
00:42A 69-year-old truck driver had just backed his vehicle into a loading area downtown.
00:47Police say that's when the confrontation began.
00:50According to a police report, Sanchez, who reportedly smelled of alcohol at the scene, approached the man, and the situation quickly escalated.
00:58The driver, identified in court documents only as P.T., pulled out a knife, claiming he was trying to protect himself.
01:05Sanchez was stabbed multiple times in the upper right torso and had to be hospitalized.
01:10Officials later said the driver's medical condition justified raising the charge against Sanchez to a felony, which could carry up to six years in prison.
01:18P.T. is also suing both Sanchez and Fox Corp., claiming emotional and physical damages.
01:24The lawsuit argues that Fox should have known about Sanchez's alleged propensity for drinking and failed to supervise him properly as an employee.
01:32He was a first-round NFL draft pick in 2009 and played for teams like the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington.
01:41Sanchez was scheduled for a court hearing on Tuesday, but it has been pushed back to November 4th as he continues to recover from his injuries.
01:48Officials said they are still gathering information, including surveillance video that captured the incident from several angles.
01:54Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears emphasized that no one is above the law, saying,
02:00I don't care who you are. If you come into our city and commit violence, we will hold you accountable.
02:05There's still a lot we don't know.
02:07And the answers could take months to unfold.
