00:00
week number two of the 2024 NFL regular season and we always
00:09
provide the injury analysis and insight on a Monday following a
00:14
busy Sunday slate and there's a lot to get to. So we are very
00:17
pleased to have the pro football doc Doctor David Chow with us
00:21
here on this Monday on the early line. You can see the great
00:23
work that he and his team are doing at Sports Injury Central.
00:27
That's SIC or SIC Central SIC score.com. Excuse me as we get
00:33
things going here in this NFL season. Doctor Chow. Thank you
00:36
for joining us here on the early line. Thanks for having
00:39
me. Yup. Six score is what it is. Six score.com. Alright,
00:44
Doctor Chow. The big news on this Monday morning tweeted out
00:47
in the last half an hour from NFL Network's Ian Rappaport.
00:50
Isaiah Pacheco injured yesterday in the marquee match up against
00:53
the Bengals left the stadium in a walking boot and on
00:57
crutches. The initial tests are saying it is a fracture to his
01:02
fibula. What does this mean for Pacheco's future this year in
01:05
2024? Well, we we got a lot of good injury analysis this
01:10
weekend. This one, I have to be honest. I didn't see by video
01:14
to be an ankle fracture, right? And now, there's there's
01:18
reports of ankle fractures but we don't delete tweets. Now,
01:21
the latest report from Adam Schefter is they need an MRI to
01:25
confirm whether it's a fibular fracture or is there a ligament
01:29
or something else? Stadium x-rays are usually very
01:32
diagnostic for fractures. Perhaps it's a hairline,
01:35
non-displaced fracture or or it's a ligament. So, I guess if
01:38
you can't tell by stadium x-rays, maybe people don't hate
01:41
on me too much for not being able to tell off a video. But
01:44
in any case, not seeing this as a season ender, it's gonna cost
01:49
him a lot of time likely but the Chiefs could get him back
01:52
for a late season playoff run. Doc, we all saw the major
01:57
concussion that Tua Tagovailoa did suffer in that prime time
02:00
game against the Bills. It's not so much about when he's going
02:02
to come back doc but can you tell us what's the process that
02:05
Tua Tagovailoa is going through from the game itself till today
02:09
on some of those tests and also how they determine when he
02:12
could possibly be cleared? Well, to me, there's no doubt
02:15
he's gonna see multiple neurologists or neurosurgeons
02:18
and get lots of good opinions. It's hard to say. Every
02:21
concussion you could argue is a major concussion. No two
02:25
concussions are the same. Uh you know, certainly, he got hit
02:28
by DeMar Hamlin but he also hit the back of his head on the
02:31
turf and you guys are showing the pictures and images right
02:34
there and this is arguably his fifth concussion in five years.
02:38
One in college, two diagnosed but you could argue three in
02:42
2022 and now this one. Does this automatically, is this
02:48
career-threatening? Absolutely. Every single concussion can be
02:52
said to be that but with five and five years, it is
02:54
career-threatening. Is he going to come back in one or two
02:57
weeks? No. Uh it's going to need a longer absence. Is this
03:01
career-ending? Not necessarily. If symptoms linger and indeed
03:06
will be career-ending. If symptoms go away quickly, then
03:09
he may have a chance to go back. Let him determine that.
03:12
The posturing, the fencing doesn't really relate to the
03:15
seriousness of it even though it looks bad to the general
03:19
public and no, he's not the highest number of concussions
03:22
in the league. We focus on Tua because of the controversy in
03:25
2022 and of course, he's a quarterback, premier position
03:31
but Mitch Morris now with the Jaguar Center with the Buffalo
03:34
Bills before has six documented concussions in his NFL career.
03:38
Pat Fryer-Mufas had three in his first young early career at
03:42
tight end. So, it remains to be seen and it will be an
03:45
individual decision along with the doctors. Really good
03:49
medical information there in the process of what is
03:52
happening behind the scenes for Tua Tungabailoa and Miami.
03:56
Tua telling NFL media over the weekend, he has no plans to
04:00
retire. It will be his decision along with his loved ones and
04:04
his family. Doctor Chow, early in this year, there might not be
04:07
a banged up team more than that of the LA Rams. Yesterday, on
04:12
the road in Arizona, they got beat bad. Forty-one to ten and
04:17
with Puka Nakua on injured reserve, many offensive linemen
04:21
already dealing with injury. Cooper Cup exits the game early
04:25
as well. What is the field view or the six score overall of the
04:29
LA Rams saying on this Monday? Well, look, Cooper Cup rolled
04:35
his ankle. We're hoping it's not serious and eversion ankle
04:39
sprain, a different type of high ankle sprain. We'll see if
04:43
he can come back or not. The only silver lining for the Rams
04:47
is they're about to get their left tackle back uh uh and
04:50
that's the only silver line. The whole left side of the
04:52
offensive line has been out and a disarray with the center
04:56
sliding over, etcetera. That's why we have two favorite games
05:00
this week at six score and we don't handicap games. We just do
05:04
it off the field view and and do the analysis. Our two
05:07
favorites were the Arizona Cardinals and the other one was
05:10
the Minnesota Vikings. Even though in the on our own war
05:14
room, we were nervous about the Vikings against the 49ers.
05:17
That's what our numbers said and it bore out. Doc, six score
05:22
has been hot here and we got a big Monday night football game
05:24
with some injury concerns. Number one for the Philadelphia
05:27
Eagles got AJ Brown at the wide receiver position and also doc,
05:30
let us know, are we healthy at the quarterback position for
05:33
the Atlanta Falcons with Kirk Cousins? Well, we're healthy
05:37
enough to play. Are we 100%? That's the question. If you
05:41
ask me, is he 100% on the Achilles? It's his back foot
05:44
push off. No, neither is Aaron Rodgers but they're able to
05:48
play and be effective. I think it's still more scheme and new
05:52
system than that and the question now with AJ Brown
05:55
already ruled out for the Eagles, what does this really
05:58
mean? You know, is there a domino effect in how the
06:02
coverage changes on Devonta Smith? Obviously, you got
06:04
Johan Dotson who's relatively new still. Is there a domino
06:08
effect without the bell cow AJ Brown being in there? I think
06:12
he's a mild hamstring but early season, the Eagles didn't want
06:15
to make it worse. So, that'll be what's interesting to watch
06:18
there. You see the field views for tonight in that
06:22
perspective. That is key. That's at sixscore.com. Doctor
06:26
Chow, just quickly here in the final minute. Last week on
06:29
Monday night, Aaron Rodgers in Santa Clara. We asked you
06:31
about the veteran quarterback coming off a torn Achilles.
06:35
Same question for the 36-year-old Kirk Cousins. You
06:38
mentioned he is healthy enough to play. How does he develop and
06:41
get healthier throughout the season as he's still playing in
06:44
NFL regular season games? Well, you know, obviously, there's
06:48
still lots of training room stuff and workouts and you
06:51
know, it's a gradual process but I really think the concern
06:54
is just scheme and getting used to what's happening there. If
06:57
you really get down to it, how many tight window throws does
07:01
a quarterback make in a game? It's more about feel and timing
07:04
and throwing to the right spot. Yeah, the tight window throws
07:08
may lack in a little bit of accuracy because of push off
07:11
but overall, I think he could still have a good game here.
07:16
First year in Atlanta. First year with new offensive
07:18
coordinator, Zach Robinson as well. The Pro Football Dog,
07:22
Dr. David Chow, appreciate your time.
