00:00Former NFL quarterback-turned-broadcaster Mark Sanchez was booked into the Marion County Jail on Sunday
00:05and briefly spoke to reporters after he was fingerprinted and had his mugshot taken.
00:13Sanchez was arrested October 5th following a violent altercation with a truck driver early that morning
00:18in an alley outside a downtown Indianapolis hotel.
00:22He is recovering from stab wounds suffered in the attack, which authorities say the former New York Jets quarterback instigated.
00:30Sanchez was discharged from the hospital on Sunday and immediately went to the jail with his lawyer to be processed.
00:36The 38-year-old thanked first responders and law enforcement upon his release but did not answer specific questions.
00:43But I'm focused on my recovery and I just want to see my wife, I want to see my son, my two baby girls.
00:50That'll be a day to answer all these questions and unfortunately today is not that day.
00:55Anything you want to say to Mr. Toll?
00:56I guess the real thing here is I just want to thank Dr. Mosler, the surgeon.
01:08She saved my life.
01:10Sanchez was initially charged with three misdemeanors, but prosecutors upgraded the charges on October 6th
01:16after an amended probable cause affidavit.
01:19The level 5 felony charge of battery resulting in serious injury carries a maximum sentence of between one and six years in prison.
01:27Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said last week it was an altercation that never needed to happen.
01:33We are literally talking about people fighting over a parking space and or a dispute about where people are parking and it resulted in someone receiving just incredibly significant injuries.
01:45Where this incident took place was an area of the city which was very well covered by surveillance footage.
01:51Sanchez has pleaded not guilty and was allowed to leave Indiana.
01:54His first court appearance is November 5th.
01:57The truck driver, 69-year-old Perry Toll, has sued Sanchez and Fox Sports in civil court, alleging assault and battery and negligent hiring, retention and supervision.
02:08The lawsuit does not seek specific damages, but asks for the monetary amount awarded to be determined at trial.
02:15Sanchez was replaced in the broadcast booth Sunday by former player Mark Schlereth.
02:19Fox Sports has yet to comment on whether Sanchez will return this season or if he'll face any disciplinary action.
