00:00I mean, these, these shutdowns aren't good for anybody. It's highly disruptive to a lot of
00:08different industries, a lot of different individuals. Now, is it a body blow to the
00:13economy? No. Markets certainly recover. History will show us. But there's a better way to do
00:22business. And I think having an automatic continuing resolution in place as debate
00:29and negotiations continue is a better way to do business. And it's going to be far less disruptive
00:36to the economy. Now, could that be passed today? The answer most likely is no. Possibly the best
00:45opportunity, Scarlett, would be in divided government, which, you know, as you know,
00:52I was a Republican congressman, so I'm not necessarily advocating for divided government.
00:56We'll see what the midterms bring us. I think there would be a better opportunity.
01:02And those opportunities to do serious legislation typically come right after an election. And as we
01:09get closer to the election year, it becomes more difficult to legislate and legislate on a bipartisan
01:15basis. But right now, you know, I don't see an immediate end to this because I think there is
01:24an agenda that this administration wants to carry out. Right.
01:28And I just think it's absolutely fascinating. It will be one of the great political ironies of the
01:34modern times that Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is going to be personally responsible for one of the
01:41greatest reductions in the federal workforce in modern history. Now, why do I say that? Because Chuck
01:48Schumer is a very smart senator. I've been on the opposite side of working with him and debating with
01:55him before. He got it right in the, you know, as we were looking at the shutdown the first time,
02:01but he got the political blowback. He is fearful of being primaried by AOC. And because of that,
02:07he's doing something that he knows is not going to end well for his party because he has to show the
02:12fight. Meanwhile, the OMB director, Russ Vogt, who I know very, very well and have worked with
02:18in the past, he's been planning on this moment for years. And this will give the administration
02:24the opportunity, depending on what the courts do. And there's no administration that has kept the
02:31courts busier than the Trump administration. But it is an absolute historic opportunity to cut the
02:37federal workforce and to really mothball agencies that but for this government shutdown would not be
02:46possible. And so when it happens, I'm just saying what an irony.
