00:00The U.S. Secret Service counter-sniper team is drastically understaffed, according to a new
00:04report. The new report from the Department of Homeland Security shows the counter-sniper team
00:12is staffed 73 percent below the necessary level to meet mission requirements. Failure to
00:18appropriately staff CS could limit the Secret Service's ability to properly protect our nation's
00:23most senior leaders, risking injury or assassination, and subsequent national-level
00:28harm to the country's sense of safety and security, the report reads. The report shows the need for
00:34counter-sniper team has greatly increased, up 150 percent between 2020 and 2024. However, the number
00:41of snipers only increased by five percent. To make up that difference, the Secret Service relied on
00:46overtime and snipers from other department components. The report laid out two recommendations
00:52to address the issue, the first being to develop and implement a plan to achieve full staffing.
00:57The second, to develop and implement a process to ensure the counter-sniper teams
01:02meet weapon requalification standards. The report started following the assassination attempt of
01:08President Trump in July of last year at that rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. For Straight Arrow News,
