00:02A federal judge has temporarily blocked President Trump's latest attempt to limit birthright
00:06citizenship. The judge on Wednesday granted a preliminary injunction against an executive
00:11order Trump signed last month, calling it, quote, almost certainly unconstitutional.
00:17The order targets what Trump calls birth tourism, people who travel to the U.S. to give birth
00:22so their children receive U.S. citizenship. It also seeks to deny automatic citizenship to some
00:28children of people the government deems alien enemies and foreign government employees.
00:33In her 35-page ruling, Judge Deborah Boardman pointed to the Supreme Court's decision in June,
00:39striking down Trump's earlier attempt to restrict birthright citizenship. Boardman called that
00:45decision, quote, the law of the land. Government lawyers argued the Supreme Court's ruling does
00:50not prevent the administration from creating narrower exceptions to birthright citizenship.
00:55It's not yet clear if the administration will appeal.
00:58But in an interview with Fox News Wednesday, Attorney General Todd Blanche said the decision
01:03was, quote, not something that is a surprise to us.
