00:00It's been known as the Hollywood of the South thanks to big tax incentives and a boom in
00:05studio space around Atlanta, Georgia.
00:08But one studio that helped put Georgia on the map is reportedly saying goodbye, Marvel
00:14Studios.
00:18Georgia has been home to Marvel blockbusters like Black Panther and Spider-Man Homecoming.
00:26Wait a minute. You guys aren't the real Avengers. I can tell Hulk gives it away.
00:32But according to the Wall Street Journal, Marvel is shifting much of its production to the United
00:36Kingdom. The reason? Lower labor costs and universal health care means studios don't have to subsidize
00:43workers' medical expenses.
00:45Georgia still offers some of the most lucrative tax incentives in the country to keep production
00:50stateside. But industry insiders have said for years it's often still cheaper to film
00:56overseas.
00:57It's cheaper to bring a hundred American people to Ireland than to walk across the
01:03lot by Fox, past the sound stages and do it there.
01:07Marvel's move is expected to deal a major blow to Georgia's film economy. The Georgia Department
01:12of Economic Development says production spent more than $11 billion between 2022 and 2024's
01:19fiscal years. But local businesses near Atlanta's big studios are already feeling the sting, telling
01:25Atlanta TV station 11 alive that foot traffic from actors has dropped as fewer projects are
01:31getting picked up.
