00:00One week since Charlie Kirk's assassination, and people want answers.
00:04But now the answers they've been given are being called into question.
00:11Conservative commentator Candace Owens, a close friend to Charlie Kirk,
00:15is raising questions over the investigation and what's been publicly released so far.
00:21Particularly, the text exchange between Robinson and Lance Twiggs,
00:26the transgender roommate and romantic partner of Robinson, according to authorities.
00:32The roommate replies, you weren't the one who did it, right?
00:35Robinson replies, I am. I'm sorry.
00:38This is weird. This is very, this chain is weird to me.
00:42Yeah, these messages are clearly doctored, is what I would say. They're doctored.
00:47It's not just Owens questioning the authenticity of the text exchange.
00:52I'm not buying all of it. I'm particularly not buying those text messages.
00:56It just seems too stilted, too much like a script, actually a bad script.
01:03So we got to get to the bottom of it.
01:05The texts are also garnering a lot of attention on social media.
01:09This post from an ex-user has been seen 4 million times.
01:14It's screenshots of ChatGPT saying the texts are most likely fabricated.
01:20Another ex-account with 4 million followers, popular among conservative circles, posted sounds like a script.
01:28So I reached out to the Utah County Attorney's Office, which released the messaging thread in the charging document.
01:35I asked if the text messages were authenticated in any capacity when they were handed over to police by the roommate.
01:42I asked if they had 100% certainty the texts are real.
01:48And I asked if the actual text screenshots will be released.
01:52They responded, but said they won't comment further than what is in the probable cause statement.
01:58So here is what we know.
02:00According to the probable cause document, the messages were handed over to police by the roommate.
02:06It is unclear if or how the messages were authenticated.
02:11It's unclear what day and at what time the following messages were sent.
02:16It's also unclear if other messages were sent in between, but not included in this disclosure.
02:23There are several ellipses in the document, usually a sign that more happened or more was said.
02:29Right now, people invested in Charlie Kirk's case want answers.
02:33Clarity, justice, closure.
02:36We don't have the full case.
02:38We don't know what all information authorities have gathered.
02:41Just the pieces here and there that they are publicly releasing.
02:45But one constitutional attorney says oversharing could cost Utah the case.
02:52Chrisanne Hall wrote oversharing inculpatory evidence like this is a huge constitutional no-no
02:59and condemned the state for reading actual testimony and evidence that has not been vetted by the court.
03:05She shared a court case on this subject over the public's urge for immediate information
03:11and how it can infringe on the process, saying while freedom of the press is essential,
03:17it must not override a defendant's right to a fair trial.
03:21We'll, of course, continue to follow this story for updates, and you can too,
