00:00A new poll reveals members of Gen Z do not view starting a family as a key to success

00:05and are instead prioritizing careers and financial independence.

00:10The NBC News survey found male Trump voters in that generation are the only group that

00:15view getting married and having children as their top measure of success.

00:20Nearly everyone else puts it near the bottom.

00:22The pollsters focused on adults 18 to 29 and they asked them to choose three of 13 measures

00:30of success that ranged from financial achievements like owning a home and not having any debt

00:35to family milestones like getting married and having children.

00:39The results reveal that when political beliefs are put aside, male and female Gen Z adults

00:45have very similar views of success.

00:48Both sexes made the top three choices, having a job or career you find fulfilling, having

00:53enough money to do the things you want, and achieving financial independence.

00:57They also agreed on the two least important measures, being able to retire early and fame

01:03and influence.

01:04Young men who voted for Trump are the outliers and the difference is particularly stark when

01:09compared to young women who voted for Harris.

01:11For instance, 34% of male Trump voters said having children was an important measure of

01:16success. Only 6% of female Harris voters said the same. 29% of males said being married

01:23is a marker of success compared to 6% of females. The big difference was in their view of emotional

01:29stability. 39% of women said it's important compared to just 9% of men. Overall, the top

01:35three priorities for females who voted for Harris are having a job or career you find fulfilling,

01:41having enough money to do the things you want, and having emotional stability.

01:44The top three measures of success for males who voted for Trump are having children, financial

01:50independence, and having a fulfilling job or career.
