00:00This morning, California's redistricting battle is front and center as voters begin casting

00:07ballots on whether to change the state's congressional map, a move that could carry

00:12major national implications. If voters approve of the redraw, Democrats could pick up as many

00:18as five U.S. House seats, potentially paving the way to retake the chamber in next year's

00:23midterms. Republicans currently hold a narrow 219 to 213 edge with three vacancies. In California,

00:30Democrats outnumber Republicans two to one. The ballot measure is a simple yes or no vote.

00:35The issue flared after President Trump backed a redistricting push in Texas that added five

00:40GOP-leading districts. In response, California Governor Gavin Newsom, one of Trump's fiercest

00:46critics, urged his state to counter with its own Democratic-friendly map. Voting runs through

00:51November 4th.
