00:00President Trump is threatening to revisit the 2013 Bridgegate scandal involving former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
00:08The threat comes after Christie criticized what he calls Trump's influence over the Justice Department following FBI searches of former National Security Advisor John Bolton's home and office.
00:23In an interview Sunday with ABC News, Christie was asked about the FBI's searching of Bolton's home.
00:30I would say that there's real evidence that they believe something is there.
00:34While Christie acknowledged it took two judges to sign off on the search warrants, giving some validity to the FBI's actions, Christie also criticized what he sees as Trump's influence over the DOJ, suggesting the FBI's decision to raid Bolton's home could have stemmed from Trump himself.
00:55Donald Trump sees himself as the person who gets to decide everything, and he doesn't care about any separation.
01:03In fact, he absolutely rejects the idea that there should be separation between criminal investigations and the politically elected leader of the United States.
01:11Christie's interview caught the attention of Trump, who criticized Christie on Truth Social and floated the idea of reopening an investigation into Bridgegate, a scandal he was tied to in 2013.
01:26Trump wrote, for the sake of justice, perhaps we should start looking at that very serious situation again.
01:33If you're unfamiliar with Bridgegate, in 2013, when Christie was the governor of New Jersey, there were several lane closures from Fort Lee, New Jersey, onto the George Washington Bridge, which is a major path to Upper Manhattan.
01:47It lasted for days, Christie's aides and office staff ended up being indicted and convicted over allegations they purposefully closed the lanes as political retribution against the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee.
02:04The Supreme Court later overturned their convictions.
02:08Christie has denied knowing anything about his staff's plans to create the road closures.
02:14The FBI recently searched Bolton's home and office as part of a probe into possible leaks of sensitive information inside his 2020 memoir, The Room Where It Happened.
02:26The Trump administration had tried to block the book then, saying it contained sensitive information.
02:33A federal judge allowed publication, but said Bolton likely did include classified material.
02:39This led to a probe during Trump's first term, and now the DOJ and FBI are clearly back on the case after Friday's raid.
02:48Christie and Bolton are both former allies of the president, turned Trump critics.
02:54And while some, like Christie, are suggesting the Bolton raid could be part of a political retribution tour,
03:00Trump says he was not aware of the FBI's raid on Bolton's home until after it happened and he saw it on TV.
