It seems Tom Brady has had enough of critics who say his part-ownership in the Las Vegas Raiders
00:05
shouldn't mix with his role as a broadcaster.
00:09
Brady called out the paranoid and distrustful for believing the two roles present a conflict of interest.
00:17
The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback and future Hall of Famer
00:21
writes a weekly newsletter called The 199.
00:25
This week's topic is Do Your Job,
00:27
and Brady talks about both his role as a broadcaster and his role as a minority owner of the Raiders.
00:33
He broke down the controversy in his own words.
00:37
I love football. At its core, it's a game of principles,
00:40
and with all the success it has given me, I feel I have a moral and ethical duty to the sport,
00:46
which is why the point where my roles in it intersect is not actually a point of conflict,
00:52
despite what the paranoid and distrustful might believe.
00:55
Brady is in his second year as the lead analyst for the NFL on Fox.
00:59
His appearance in the Raiders' coach's booth on September 15th, complete with headset,
01:04
reignited the conflict of interest debate.
01:07
The NFL weighed in with a statement the next day, saying,
01:10
there are no policies that prohibit an owner from sitting in the coach's booth or wearing a headset during a game.
01:16
When told that Brady was seen in the coach's booth Monday night,
01:19
Raiders head coach Pete Carroll admitted that he and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly seek Brady's advice.
01:26
We have conversations. I talk to Tom. Chip talks to Tom regularly.
01:30
I mean, we have a tremendous asset.
01:32
And so, you know, we all get along well and we respect each other.
01:35
And so, we just talk, you know, about life and football and whatever it comes.
01:41
And he has great insight.
01:44
So, we're lucky to have him as an owner.
01:46
The Raiders host the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
01:49
Brady was on the call when the Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys three days ago.
01:54
But Chicago coach Ben Johnson shot down any concern about Brady taking part in broadcast production meetings last week.
02:02
I mean, we change week to week in terms of what we do.
02:05
Schematically, he's going to be able to turn on the tape and see what everyone else in the world is seeing right now.
02:11
Personnel-wise, really the same thing.
02:13
It's not like I'm going to sit down with him and tell him, hey, don't do this to Caleb Williams or you might get it.
02:19
There's not going to be any trade secrets that are going to be exchanged.
02:22
But I just, I really don't think it's that big of a deal, to be honest with you.
02:26
If the Raiders somehow blow out the Bears on Sunday, the Internet and social media conspiracy theorists will be back at work.
02:34
Brady blames our current social and political climate to a degree.
02:38
When you live through uncertain and untrusting times like we are today,
02:42
it's very easy to watch a person's passions and profession intersect.
02:47
And to believe you're looking at some sort of dilemma, he wrote.
